Okay, that truly would be the end for me. I only continue to watch because of the core characters cast so long ago. No EB or MTS would seal the deal. I am not that happy with the direction of the show anyways.

I always have to turn the volume up when he starts talking and then turn it down when someone else chimes in because I don't want to miss anything he says.

It's so odd when you see him on Rat Patrol and he plays a German. His name wasn't Eric Braeden then, it was Hans Gudegast and he was actually born in Germany, but he has an English accent on Y&R

i truly believe that, if they recast Victor, that would be the end of Y&R...you don't just recast an iconic character like victor newman. i don't think letting him die would work either, although it might be easier for the viewers to accept. i really hope this is just a rumor, because i was still hopeful Y&R would get back on track and become watchable again, but i'll admit, a new victor wouldn't make me want to watch again. now if they made him truly remorseful and contrite for the way he has treated nikki, his children and colleen, i might consider it.

Ok I have seen on two twitter accounts and three soap message boards that there is a casting call out for The great Victor Newman. One of these boards usually deletes this rumours asap if they might be unfounded and yet the thread is remaining with discussion. It's reportedly been published in a magazine but I don't know which one. Also Melody Thomas Scott reported she signed a short-term contract waiting to see what happened with EB's negotiations

The reason for the recast, de-aging the character (50-60) and reported contract disputes.

Another option is also apparently killing the character off which I can NOT fathom happening at all.

Frankly I would rather see the character die than recast - no one else could EVER be Victor for me.

Anyone been reading these rumors? What do you think? Anyone have confirmation?

Apparently the casting call for a powerful billionare between the ages of 55-60 is for the character of Victor. And they are de-aging Victor.
There has been contract disputes with Eric Braeden and he is refusing to take a pay cut if he refuses they will recast the role.

But at the same time the show is also thinking of killing the character. And this is what ive been saying the core character death is, the show knows that the viewers want him killed of and apparently they were more concerned about losing MST then EB.

If he is killed of, the storyline has been planned for him already. And when Victor gets Colleen's heart they will write him out by Colleen's heart not working for him, so I guess he will have another heart attack

So to sum up the show is looking to recast Victor or either kill him of. This is all a bit shocking to me but since the Colleen spoilers have come true this is kind of related to Victor's storyline.

SOD is reporting that the rumor isn't true -

The show released an official statement that reads:
Y&R isn't looking to recast Victor Newman-
and that EB's current contract isn't up until late 2010.

Daytime Confidential's latest update said that while Tucker is a new character, sources at Y&R say that they are indeed trying to negotiate a pay cut (similar to what's been asked of the other actors) with Eric Braeden, because his contract is currently at a particular point in the cycle where tptb have a legal opportunity to do so.

Braeden is reportedly resisting a paycut.

I don't think a recast will work at all. Viewers of ATWT have still not accepted the new Lilly and Martha wasn't on that soap as long as Eric has been on Y&R.

I also don't think killing him is the way to go. Victor is a key character and killing him only to ressurect him later would be, IMO, a mistake.

I think if there is some big contract dispute the best thing the writers could do is to have Victor go away for awhile. He brought Patty to town - everyone is going to hate him - let him flee as an outcast and leave his kids in charge of Newman. This way Eric can return, if they come to an agreement. I would hate to see this go the way of the Martha Byrne negotiations where the powers that be just recast rather than try to work out an amicable solution. Maybe they should cut Gloria and then keep Eric's pay as is.

for the past 25 years (god am i that old) i've been watching him bully and buy his way out of everything he's done.

he treats women like s*&! and gets away with it.

i'm sick to death of his character and wish he would just go away.

everytime they write him off the show for weeks on end i hope they would just forget to write him back in.

now that he's been shot i hope this is it for him - how many times can this guy avoid death and justice.

nick is so forgiving of victor it's making me sick.

i know the guy was shot and all but he hired the women to take out jack and she ended up almost killing his daughter making her (at least at this point) very brain damaged due to MJ

i just don't understand how they can write nick being so forgiving of victor after all the crap he's put nick and his family through.

Were you as shocked as we were when Don Diamont (Bill, B&B) showed up at the tail end of yesterday's episode of Y&R as the late Brad, who appeared to his daughter Colleen while she was drowning? Did you also notice that the actor was sans the beard he's been sporting while playing Bill on B&B? Diamont enlightened us on how the whisker-free guest spot happened. "It was a big secret, of course," he explains. "B&B had just started a five-week hiatus, so I was able to shave off my beard, do the Y&R scene and then grow my beard back while on vacation. So many people are used to seeing me with facial hair now that when I showed up at Y&R that day all clean shaven, a few people didn't recognize me!"

I don’t know….the recast has worked before, a few times at least. Initially, no one could imagine anyone but Terry Lester as Jack Abbott. But when Peter Bergman showed up, he just slid right into place. It was different, though, when they tried to recast Ashley---that just never worked! When it’s an iconic character, I think the person who is recast into the role has to fit a visual expectation, not only with physical features (like the Abbott bushy eyebrow thing), but with mannerisms. Like when they re-cast Jill Foster Abbott, or (on OLTL) when they recast a younger Dorian (20? Years ago).

I think we’ve been spoiled…the cast members on Y&R have mostly been there forever haven’t they? I agree, Victor can move out of town and (as he has done several times before) give the company to the kids, coming back to GC periodically to wreak a little havoc.

I dont think I would be interested in watching everyday if EB was gone. He is this show. Him and Nikki. They are the heart of it.

Also did I miss something? I know that Brad came and looked at Colleen underwater for about 5 seconds but he never talked with her. is that correct?

I love how she came to Lily. The whole 5 minutes of her remembering and chatting with everyone was very touching. It was a whole hr for us....about 5 minutes of time lapse according to the clock.
