OK now on to my question - in the future what should I do in this situation? Am I responsible for items broken in transit? They were NOT broken when they were shipped and were shipped carefully. When you shook the box the items didn't move at all. How do others handle this? It seems to be a tricky situation as you want the buyer to be happy but also don't want to get "taken" by buyers. Help please!!

When I sell fragile items on Ebay, I include the price of insurance in my shipping quote, e.g., "Shipping/handling is $9.00 and includes insurance." I never make insurance optional for fragile items.

I also use Delivery Confirmation on everything I sell through Amazon and Ebay, just to avoid the "I never received the package" scammers. If you download the Shipping Assistant software from the post office website, DC is free for Priority Mail packages and only 13 cents for Media Mail.

Dear eBay Community Member,
eBay experienced technical issues with certain listings between November 21-24, 2003. As a result, certain listing fees were not applied to some member's accounts on the expected dates. Based on our research, your account has been identified as one of the impacted accounts. The Insertion Fees, Reserve Price Fees, and Final Value Fees will be posted to your eBay account as applicable no later than January 31, 2004. We apologize for this inconvenience.
Regards,
eBay Inc

etc.

Lori, I didn't personally get one like that, but a similar if not identical one was quoted on another forum and the poster quoted eBay's site as saying they will never address you as "Dear eBay Community Member" in a message. You might want to forward it to the spoof mailbox.

I am so upset. Paypal did a chargeback on my paypal account even though I sent it to a confirmed address and have Delivery confirmation # proving it was received.

wdwpluto, that sounds like a spoof mail to me. I have never received one like that. But really don't think you would have been able to list an auciton at all if ebay couldn't charge you for it. I think if they were haveing that kind've problem they would have just shut down the site, until fixed.

kayeandjim00, when it comes to breakable things, and high priced items, always add insurance to your shipping total. Don't make it optional. I am sure that you would rather be out the couple of bucks it takes to get the insurance, that the price of the item and the item that is broken.

Why would they do that?

Thanks Joy, I'll do that. I wasn't sure because they're not asking me to do anything or reply, just that they'll post the charges to my account. Strange.

I sold 2 very expensive items to a bidder in Sweden. She has been great and is sending a check. The problem is she just asked me to put on the customs form that it is a gift. I already had another potential bidder who asked me to put the value of the item for a lesser amount and I told her I couldn't do that so she never bid. However, this auction is over and I just need to receive payment. What should I tell her? I thought I read on these boards that it was against the law to lie on a customs form, but I can't find those posts. I'm just worried because I don't have the check yet. Should I wait to tell her until I receive the check? Thanks for any help!

Customs forms are Federal Documents. Which would make lying on them a Federal Offense, I would assume it would be considered Mail Fraud. I wouldn't lie. If they don't want to pay to Custom's Fee then they shouldn't have bid on the item .

Need advice ASAP!!!

Do you have delivery confirmation on the packages? Does it show they were delivered? Have you verified the address with her (maybe she moved??) Sounds like she's the one trying to pull internet fraud! Personally wouldn't refund, but you may get a neg out of it.

Carol - You're accepting a personal check from overseas? You're braver than I am! I would falsify the form either. You may want to be upfront with her. You could mutually agree to end the transaction and you can make a second chance offer to your underbidder.

No, I didn't get delivery confirmation on them (my fault) I just have the postal reciepts showing that I mailed to that city and zip code. Plus the last one that went in a Priority mail envelope so I have the copy of that. I have checked with her each and everytime to make sure of the address. In one of her e-mails to me, she states "if I had received them I wouldn't be bothering you". The whole situation justs bugs me.

Even if you check the gift box, if the item(s) are over a certian dollar amount they will be charged custom fees. I know. I sent some beanies to the UK (over $100) worth. I checked that they were a gift, and said how much they were worth, plus they were insured. Because they were over a certian limit she still had to pay custom fees, she was not happy about it, but luckly she didn't get mad at me.

You need to let you buyer know that no matter what box you check, if the items are over a certian amout they will be charged custom fees.

I am with one of the other posters. If they don't want to pay the custom fees, then they should buy stuff on ebay from other countries.

Why would they do that?

Sorry, couldn't finish my posting. My computer is having so many problems with my internet provider that I am going to change them.

Anyways,

This lady bought an item worth $78 and I sent it UPS and it was sent to a comfirmed address. She even received the item. The other day, I get an email from paypal that she had done a chargeback because her mastercard was stolen even though she admitted purchasing my item and sending me an email stating that a few of her Ebay transactions might get chargeback because her checking account was linked to her Mastercard and she cancelled everything and started new accounts and that she had every intention to pay for it if Paypal reversed the payment.

But I was upset mainly with Paypal because I had done everything by the book to be protected under Seller Protection plan. I sent them the confirmation #, Verified that it was sent to her address and even sent them the email the lady sent me stating that this may happen but Paypal said since Fraud is involved with her Credit Card it is not protected under Seller Protection Policy. So I told the Paypal CS, "Oh so If I purchase something with my credit card then I can do the same thing? oh how easy and I can get it free to". (didn't mean that but I was upset and wanted them to know)

Then I told the CS lady so What is the use of Seller Protection Policy then?. She didnt have an answer and said I could appeal it. Now I am out that money and I doubt the lady is going to pay me since i have not heard from her in a couple of days.

Paypal needs to get their act together and protect the sellers out there too instead of just advertising it. I could not believe it is that easy for someone to just say that their Credit card is stolen and they get their money back.

intensiblue98 I hope you get a spare moment to read this. :

Paypal is so horrid. After my current batch of auctions is over, I will never use them again.

I have also started refusing to ship out of the US because of problems with people wanting me to lie on customs forms. I have one lady who made me swear to mark a dvd as a gift , and since I didn't realize it was illegal at the time, I said ok. Well her e-check took 2 weeks to clear, and now I've since learned it's illegal to do this, thus I'm not going to. She is pissed and says she's going to do a chargeback on paypal. It's only $20 so it's not that big of a deal . I lost money on the shipping anyway.

GRRRR. Plus she is planning on giving me negative feedback. I have 100% positive feedback right now, so there that goes. Hopefully future bidders will see that this woman is unreasonable and trying to lie on customs forms and ignore her feedback.

Quick question....

I had a bid that ended last Saturday... I sent an invoice to the person who won.. I havent heard a thing from this person so far.. My bid clearly said that I requested payment within 7 days of the closing of the bid.. What should I do?? Do I send this person another invoice?? I was thinking I should at least wait until Saturday, but wondered about the options... By the way, this was the bid on my disney hopper pass... This bidder had no feedback..

Thanks for suggestions..

There is a "payment reminder" box in the "items i've sold" section.. It will allow you to send a reminder. You can also do it from the actual item's auction page, there's a link at the top.

Betty, I usually re-send the invoice 3 days after I sent the original (you can do this from your "My Ebay" page), and then send another email at 7 days. Then start NPB. But I have in my TOS that they must contact me within 3 days with payment received within 7 days.
