Here's a couple of questions:

(They are totally unrelated!)

1) my vintage sports magazines have bids! What would be the best way to pack & ship these... I have some plastice bags (clear heavier ones), and wrapping them up again in packing and then a Tyvek envie.... does that sound good?

2) Would you reveal your reserve price (as a seller) if a prospective buyer asked for it? I saw a textbook I need for school... and asked him for the reserve price, so I wouldn't waste my time and his. (I basically asked him what is it so I coud tell if I wanted to actually bid). The seller came back and said that he wouldn't tell me, but it was less than $100 but would sell it for less... (didn't say how less, or what it was).

This seller is a new seller (13 feedback), and has no true idea what to expect. We've been ebayers for four years and never had a seller act that way?

I'll take a shot at Q1.
How many magazine are you shipping at once? If only one per shipment, I would sugest the PM flat rate envelopes (if you're using PM) or something sturdier than the Tyvek. If you decide to use the Tyvek because that is what you have on hand, maybe use a piece of cardboard to give the magazine something to keep it flat.

Right now, it looks like the magazines will go to different people. I wanted to put them in plastic because of the possible snow around here. I could put them in one bag, then cardboard, then another plastic bag, then the Tyvek. I could use the flat rate envies, but I obviously dont want to squish or damage the magazines.

Yes, I would tell a buyer what the reserve is, if they asked. I had this happen on my last round of selling stuff on ebay. Had a snowglobe with $100 reserve. Needless to say the person who ask, didn't want to pay that much, so the globe did not sell. Oh, well.

See, I thought this seller was just being downright rude...

He didn't want to tell me outright, and was being very cagey. I kind of want to email and say, because of your lack of clear communication, you lost a sale!

Hello.. Just wanted to give an update on my ebaying.. I have 7 items that close tomorrow evening and 5 of them have bids!! Not too shabby!! Im hoping the other 2 items will get bids at the last minute which is what happened saturday to some of my bids that closed then... My other bids close on Saturday and 5 of those items already have bids, so hoping to get more bids on the other items.. Hoping to hear tomorrow or Thursday about my camera.. Until then will wait and see how these items go ... may have to not list anything this coming weekend until I get my camera back from the shop, but will work on researching my items that I want to list soon.. I found one item that I have an exact of that is doing real well right now with bids, so hopefully when I list mine it will do good too.. I love this!!

Hearing about the success that so many of you are having right now is making me itch to get back into the ebay "game". But I vowed I would not until February. As you can see we leave for WDW very soon, and then when we return I have a birthday party to get ready for for my DS. When the dust has settled after all that, I'm gonna list like crazy!! ....................P

Quick question........ I sold some books back in early December. After many excuses from the buyer, I realize I am never going to get paid. So I would like to file a NPB and then relist the books. However, since it has been more than 30 days I cannot get the information on the "My Ebay" page. And I didn't keep any record of the transaction number. Am I out of luck? .....................P

You can find it through your feedback page. Look through the transactions you still need to leave feedback for.

Good idea. This very thing got me in trouble last month.

If you want to find stuff to sell on ebay, just start packing to move. As I am packing my stuff for our unexpected move, I am finding SO MUCH stuff that I intend to put up on ebay as soon as we settle in. I just wish I had more time before we move to do it now, so I wouldn't have to move but there's not. I already have about 5 boxes of stuff & 4 lg. priority boxes full of magazines for eaby.

Wow, it worked..... thanks so much!!............P

Could you guys give me some advice. I have been scowering the house looking for stuff to list & I found some of my pregnancy/childbirth/raising kids books (about 10 books-most of which have never been read). In your opinions, where would be the best $$$ place to list these? Ebay? Half.com? Amazon? What about the fees for half & amazon? I've never listed anything there and I honestly can't make heads or tails out of their listings. Plus there is no way of "researching" the prices that have been getting sales. As always, Your help & assistance is greatly appreciated! Sandy

Sandy,

I have a love/hate relationship with Half.com, since my only non-positive feedbacks were from Half.com sales. It is really easy to list with Half - just enter the UPC code on the book, and it will provide a photo for you. You don't have to write a description, just a few words (like "read once, from a non-smoking home"), and the buyer pays Half.com directly, then the money is deposited into your checking account twice a month. Very easy. And, as you list, Half will tell you the average & highest recent selling prices of the same book, if that data is available. I was discouraged because some brand new never read books were already selling for .99, and that just wasn't worth it for me. But others have done well and sold for in the teens and $20 ranges.

There is no real direct communication between seller and buyer; it is all done via Half. Which is fine if all is well, but difficult if there is a problem. When a buyer didn't agree with the condition of a book as I stated it, she simply gave me a neutral. I had no opportunity to attempt to resolve her dissatisfaction. I work really hard to do right by my eBay customers, so it felt unfair to have that situation impacting my overall eBay feedback. But I've gotten over it, and only bring it up as a cautionary tale.

After you see what prices your books are getting on Half.com,, if it isn't too great or the titles are somewhat unknown, you may want to then consider listing them in lots on eBay. Consider that a new mother-to-be may just want a variety of advice and not know specific titles - then an eBay lot may appeal. OTOH, if they were big sellers recently, Half.com may be the right venue.

Can't comment on Amazon, haven't used it.

Good luck & HTH! :teeth:

Oooh! Oooh! Look at that countdown!!!!

Thank You Joy! I didn't realize that they would give you a kind of average on half. That is at least some kind of "research". I'm soo anxious right now to earn money so that I can buy our 1st Park Hopper ticket & feel that it is really gonna happen. LOL Did that make sense? We aren't actually making firm plans to go to Disney, but we agreed that any money I raise on EBay will go solely getting us back to the house of the mouse! I was researching some stuff this a.m. and realize that I have a 2-set video that is going for about $30-40. I can't wait to list it! LOL Anyway, I have rambled enough, thanks for the help! Sandy

What type of magazines is everyone selling. Mom just cleaned out a part of her closet and had a bunch of "Rosie" and "O" and some "Entertainment Weekly" that she wants to get rid of. Then I found some old "Time" magz in a drawer (late 80's early 90's).

Does any one think any of these will sell? I am thinking about putting some of them aside, and listing a few. But I thought I would ask here first, what everyone thinks.

Did anyone else get this email? Is it legit? It came from ebay@reply.ebay.com

Ebay Problems :( Ok I am still new to this and was in LOVE big time with Ebay as we have had much success. But nothing in life comes easy right? :teeth: so we have our first problem. DH sold a set of figures (in their original boxes) and we stated insurance was optional but suggested. This buyer didn't want the insurance which was fine - well sure enough, the shipment arrived today and one figure is broken. The buyer requested that we either 1. Provide another figure (we don't have one) 2. Give him a partial refund 3. Provide return shipping costs so he could send entire order back and refund his entire total (he said he would prefer not to do that if possible.) As we are new Ebayers and DO NOT want bad feedback (though I know we are bound to get some at some point) we went with option 2 and offered to refund 1/4 (there were four figures) of his money to him. We haven't heard back yet but I assume he will except this as a resolution as the broken figure is the least expensive of the four. OK now on to my question - in the future what should I do in this situation? Am I responsible for items broken in transit? They were NOT broken when they were shipped and were shipped carefully. When you shook the box the items didn't move at all. How do others handle this? It seems to be a tricky situation as you want the buyer to be happy but also don't want to get "taken" by buyers. Help please!!

THe only thing I can think of is to clearly list on the auction "seller not responsible for item lost or damaged in shipping." Or something like that. Make it clear up front that if they opt not to insure a breakable item, that they are responsible, not you. I'm sure that some will still come back to you and complain, but it will certainly lessen that possibility. Sorry to hear you are having a hard time, especially being new to the Ebay biz. Keep plugging........................P

Is anyone having problems with Ebay tonight? I just had an auction end and was trying to send out the invoice, and it keeps giving me an imput error. On MY EBAY page, it says that the invoice has been sent, but I haven't received my copy yet. Anyone else having this problem? I don't want the person to think that I am not gonna invoice them or anything. Thanks, Sandy
