hi ho, hi ho..it's off to spend my eBay money I go...or something like that LOL. One more post, before I go to sleep and then leave for the mouse's house!

Hey, Doris, have a safe trip down, and I'll see you at B&C on Sunday!

Just saying that makes me all excited like a 5yo!
:jumping1:

Well, I have 6 packages going out this morning, and one more payment and shipment pending, then I'm free & clear 'til I get back home. It feels wierd, but kind of good. My sales have been pretty good this past month, so I am happy.

Everybody have a great day!

Yea, there is one like her in the Disney Pin section. I hate it when I see a pin that I would like to add to my collection, but then see the it is from her. I just pass it up. I don't buy from people like that.

I don't remeber if I had read it here or another message board site. But some one had bought a group of pins from the pin seller. And paid the seperate shipping price for all of the pins, I think its something like $4.50 a pin. And when they got the pins, they were all in the same envelope. That is just wrong! If you are going to charge some one for shipping on each item, and say that you will not combine items. Then ship them sepertley, not together.

I think that was me you were talking about. I did buy some pins from a buyer that charged me about $5 each to ship, did not offer combined shipping, but then shipped all the pins together in one envelope and the postage was very little! I didn't neg the feedback because it clearly stated in the auction what the shipping prices were, but I still felt taken after the fact. I have vowed since then to never buy a pin from that seller again. Anyhow, I hope to see lots of green Mickey heads next week! I will keep my eyes open. The weather report for here just gets colder and colder, while the report for Orlando just looks better and better! YAHOO!! .........................P

I am thinking about selling just a few items on ebay. One thing I have to sell is 4 WDW meal vouchers left over from our fall trip. How much will I have to pay ebay to sell these? How much will it cost me to ship? I would prefer to ship in a Fedex type envelope, maybe certified and insured, just so if the buyer claims they didn't receive the vouchers, then I'm not stuck for the $. These expire 5/04, so I'll need to do this soon. Any thoughts? TIA!

Thanks, Lori! I'm really looking forward to meeting Doris, too.
Wish all the rest of you could be down there with us!

What you would have to "pay" is based upon two things: your starting price and your ending price. You pay a flat fee to list the item, which you pay regardless of what they end for or even if they don't sell. Then you pay a small percentage based upon the ending price.

As I have previously stated regardless of how you ship the buyer can still claim that they didn't get them. As for insurance, vouchers are not insurable because they have no real value (they are only paper).

Can someone post the link to the shipping assistant again??? I have searched through several pages and can't find it.

Hi Frannn,
Probably the best advice I can give you is to take the eBay selling tutorial which you can access here.
What you'll have to pay to sell your vouchers will depend in part on the price at which you set your starting bid. Your shipping cost will also depend upon the options you choose.
Be aware that you cannot insure the vouchers via USPS, as they will not insure paper items that do not have an intrinsic value.

You may decide that you'll have more success recovering your costs if you just list the vouchers here and look for someone with a high number of posts, & let them pay for 1st class mail. I understand that you can ask permission from Pete or a mod to start a thread of this nature.

Good Luck!
Joy

Does anyone here use Stamps.com? I signed up for their service and I really like it. When I signed up they would only let me have the $15.99 price but I see now that they have a 4.99 +10% of your shipping expense. For those of you who use Stamps.com which plan are you on? The $15.99 or the other one which they call the simple plan. I've tried looking around to make sure that they both offer the same things but I just can't find it on their website  . I really like the convience of it not having to wait in the long PO lines::yes:: and being able to stick my CD's that I sell on half right into my mailbox:hyper: and the $20 free shipping was great also.
Thanks for the help.
BTW how are everyone's auctions going? My are doing OK better then before X-mas:yo-yo: . I'm finally running out of stuff to sell:( If the local auctions around here don't pick up so that I can buy stuff to sell I may be looking for a real job:eek:.
Thanks again!

Oh man!!!! I have to share my frustration here. My DH had a payment that he knew was coming out of our checking account this last week. Problem is that he thought it was coming out of our regular account and it was set up to come out of our account we only use with PayPal. Needless to say there was not enough money in there and we got a fee charged of like $30some. I am so depressed! Bye, bye money from my china sale!!! And I was so excited that it sold for way more than I had expected. :(

I listed in my three auctions that if I didn't receive payment before I leave on Thursday that my items wouldn't ship until I returned. Do I need to tell people when I am returning? One buyer let me know that he will be sending a money order. It won't go out until Thursday. So, I wont' get it before I leave. I really don't want to tell a complete stranger who has my address how long I will be out of town. Is this OK?

I think that would be okay - and if he pressed further I would give him a vague "range date" - like "We're not sure if we'll be back Tues, Wed, or Thurs - but I'll ship as soon as possible on my return.."

As for the combined shipping conversation going on here.. Recently I have been selling and shipping certain items by Priority Mail.. Someone will win another auction of mine and want me to throw it in the PM box while never taking into consideration that a "little" extra weight can mean a BIG difference in shipping charges with PM depending on where it's going.. Although I can offer a break (and do away with the handling charge for the second item) there's no way that I can ship two items for the price of one via PM..

Just a thought I wanted to share in case you have run into that particular situation.. :)

Madi100, I'm glad you asked this question as this will be the first time I've been on vacation since I started selling and I didn't know how to handle that. I guess I'll list my auctions Thursday night instead of Sunday and tell them I need to have payment by the 28th in order to get their purchase shipped before I leave. We leave on the 30th, but I don't want to be shipping the day before I leave.

I'm thinking of having sparedollar begin auctions for me on the Sunday while I'm gone since I'll be home the next Sunday when they close. I'll be wanting to find a computer all week to check my auctions.:teeth:

If you choose to do this then be sure to state in your auctions that you will not be available to answer any possible questions.

I generally do not list the week prior to any scheduled away time. It is much easier then coming home to auctions that are now anxiously awaiting their item to be mailed, etc.

The way that you are talking about is not the problem. I don't think some one should only pay shipping on one item when they have bought more than one. I combine items all the time, but I adjust the shipping so that the buyer is not paying full price shipping on each item. Like if some one buys 3 movies from me. I would charge them $7.00 for the shipping ($5.00 for the first movie and $1.00 for each one after), and they would all be shipped in the same box.

What every one is talking about is the seller who charges like $5.00 for one item to be shipped. Then they charge you another $5.00 for shipping for every item that you buy from them. While they say over and over again in there descriptions that they do not combine shipping. (Which is thier right) So say you buy 3 items from this person. You will pay $15.00 in shipping + the cost of the 3 items. Then they turn around and ship all the items into one envelope and only cost them $3.00 to ship it. I feel that if you have been charged shipping for each item, then you should get three evelopes, not one.

Now when it comes to heavy items. I can see not wanting to combine items. Heavy items cost alot to ship. (I know I just sent off 3 large boxes of beanies to one buyer it cost me $63.00 to ship them all) But when it comes to lite things like Disney pins, movies, or in the case of the seller above scrap book stuff, I don't understand why some sellers don't try to work out a different shipping policy. But, maybe that is just me.

But it's really not a biggy for me, because I just don't buy from them. But it is still frustrating to find something that I have been looking for, and see that its with a seller that dosn't combine shipping.

Good point. We're coming home on the Friday before the auctions close on Sunday and will say that I can take questions beginning Saturday before closing. I usually get most of my questions the day of, even in the last minute or two of the auction close. I wouldn't run any at all while I'm gone, but I won't be able to run any the week before we leave as I won't be home to ship and I can't afford to go two weeks with no auctions closing.;)

I'm pretty excited with some of the things I bought at auctions on Sunday and Monday. I bought a box lot of framed needlepoint and embroidery work that are really nice. I bought another group of boxed lots because I wanted a couple things that I could see in one box. Paid $7.50. After I got them home, I discovered all kinds of goodies. Kinda like Christmas! There was an Offical Program for JFK & LJ Inauguralation(sp) and newspapers from Washington, D.C. from when JFK was assasinated, along with newspapers same date from the Lexington Herald Leader. I got all excited and looked up the newspapers and the program, but they haven't been going for as much as you would think, but, it's better than nothing. One box had some nice old glass Christmas ornaments and other decorations that I'll save for next Christmas to list. Oh and they threw in an old felt hat with a real rattlesnake skin made into a band...it still had the rattler on it.LOL I'm going to list that sucker too!

I came a hair bidding on two very old KKK robes. I think they'd sell, but I was afraid to buy them. I might get hate mail or something, plus, I just didn't want them things in the house. It's no telling what they've been through. A guy that is another ebay seller bought them so they'll be going up soon. This guy knows I'm an ebayer too and kept looking at me waiting to see if I was going to bid, (we bid against each other sometimes) I just shook my head and mouthed "No Way!"

I know it isn't a big deal, but I just received my 10th feedback and got my yellow star.

Thanks to everyone who asked and answered all the questions on this thread! There is no way I would have started selling on E-Bay without your valuable information and your willingness to share. Hopefully, I can return the favor as I continue to learn.

Thanks!

All AOL member, who sell on ebay.

Are any of you haveing a problem sending e-mail to people with following e-mail address ... ***@cs.com? AOL keeps saying that she is not a known member. And the e-mail that paypal sends to her, comes back as undeliverable mail. But I think that ebay was able to deliver my invoice for the item won.

I have a buyer who has an e-mail that ends with this e-mail address and I can't send her anything. I have pulled up her info and have given her a call, but I have heard nothing from her, nor have I recieved a payment. So I am starting to get worried.

cs.com (CompuServe) is a deviate of AOL. Maybe there is spam blocking software preventing your message from making it to her inbox. If you are sending her a "personal" email, not one via ebay or Paypal, delete any "re:" or "fwd:" that would be in the subject line, avoid a hyperlink, such as one referring back to your listing. See if that lets the message get through.

I know my hotmail account's filter is setup to block email from anyone other than on my contact list. If I change the setting to the next level I start getting bombarded with spam. It's not my regular account and I rarely, if ever, get mail from people on my list and the filter saves me the hassle of cleaning out the unwanted messages before I even get to see them.
