I learned the hard way to not leave feedback until I know the item has been received and all is well. This can be via an email from the buyer or from feedback left. I do not require that they leave feedback.

Don't know about anyone else here, but I can't afford to pay the fees that would be incurred if I were to list an item between .01 and .99 and then had it actually sell for the opening price..

Nothing has changed there..it's been .30 to list at that price since the last price increase.

I wish it wasn't going up..but really, listing 100 items only raises it a total of $5.00..and I will just raise my shipping .10. I don't consider that much of a padding..and I doubt anyone will even notice. If they do..well, eBay allows your handling fee to include anything reasonable...that will cover that and part of the 10 day price. Will I continue to use buy it now? Yep..because I make money often when I do. I list for 10 days, and people just don't want to wait, so they do a buy it now. I sell enough that way for more per item, to more than make the 10 day and the buy it now worth it..at least in the Fall. I generally don't use either at other times, since people don't mind waiting.

As far as listing now to "beat" the price. I feel about that just as I do about free listing. I list during free listing just what I would have if it wasn't free..except for maybe some attic junk I'd like to see go at any price. I don't overlist, since everyone is listing and there are just so many buyers to go around. I did pretty good this last free listing, but I think I would have done just as good, if not better, if it hadn't been free listing time. One item I sell had hundreds of the same thing up during this time...now that FL is over, it's wayyyyy down in numbers, and much less competition. As far as pullign auctions before they are completed..you're still stuck with the listing fees : (

I just put an ad in the paper to sell something local..a three line ad, and it cost $14. No picture, just for a couple days. I still think eBay is a bargain: )

Those newspaper ads are something else, aren't they? LOL

I think you're in a different situation than most of the people on this particular thread though in that you are selling the same "type" of item over and over so you have a customer base that will search you out no matter what - even if it means emailing you directly rather than dealing with eBay..

From mid-November to mid-December (I'm on the 15th billing cycle) my eBay fees were through the roof and sales were really dismal.. Granted - I used more "features" than I normally would - lots of BIN's and what-have-you - but the extra features didn't help on many of my auctions and if I'd had to add on another 5 to 15 cents to each one of those auctions I would have been seriously hurting.. Success came only when I was selling off "collections" of the same "type" of item - not with the every day items that so many of the people on this thread are trying to sell..

On the other hand - when I listed during the FLD period that we just had I did very well in terms of "numbers" of items I sold - although some of the "dollars" could have been better.. Again, I think it all revolves around the types of items that are being sold.. I dream of the day when I can get this 35yr+ accumulation out of my house and only concentrate on 2 or 3 specific "types" of items - in specific categories.. Until then, I will continue to take advantage of every free or reduced offer that eBay throws my way so I don't have to pass additional costs on to my buyers..

So - the moral of this story - for someone like me who clutters up the auctions with "junk" - LOL - is that I'll list as many of my individual items as I can before the fee increase in February and after that I'll concentrate more on selling things in "lots" so I can reduce the number of times I have to pay the increased fees.. I'm sure as heck not going to list items with a .01 to .99 start price.. I tried that last week just to see what would happen - listed an item for $1 - and that's exactly what it sold for.. After the listing fee, FVF fee, Paypal fee, etc., I think I made 30 cents.. Guess I should have added an additional five or six bucks to my "shipping & handling" fee but I'm just not geared that way.. There was basically no "handling" involved - other than sticking the item in a large manila envelope..

Now I'm off to find all of my "lower end" items so I can photograph them, get them listed, and do my part in cluttering up eBay with pages and pages of junk - LOL!!! :teeth:

I think I am in the minority, but as a seller, I leave feedback as soon as I receive the money. As a buyer it really turns me off if they wait until I leave them feedback. One time I bought some paints in a kit - the seller charged me $11.00 to ship when it only cost $5.00, and didn't even package it in a mailing box, just the box that it came in the kit. When I got it, is was all bent out of shape and a couple of the paints were exploded. I decided just not to leave feedback at all because I don't like to leave negative feedback. Did this seller leave me feedback? No - even though I paid immediately after the auction ended. Just doesn't seem right to me.

So far I have 100% feedback (knock on wood). I would like to hear opposing opinions though.

:)

I have sold and bought items on ebay in the past and I love it. I also, as a seller, post feedback when I receive payment. To me it makes sense to do it that way. I think you are right though, we are the minority.
I haven't even looked at ebay in months....I will set some time aside today to look around.

Again, I think it all revolves around the types of items that are being sold..

Actually, if you look at the last 5 or 6 items I sold last week, that weren't put up on FL day, you'll see that I had 100% sell through on my attic stuff, and all brought what I thought were decent prices, more than my starting amounts for most (which I always start at what I'll be happy to get..no $1 items for me..unless it's somethign I really just want to recylce, rather than put in the trash LOL). It's really just about what you sell, and if you have sales. eBay is only expensive if you don't sell your items...and I've had those weeks too.

Lots of people on this list sell stuff that isn't the same, and although I bet they don't want to pay eBay any more than they have to, I bet they also didn't mind what they did have to pay and the extra .05 - .10 won't matter to them...especially if the shipping has an additional .10 added in. If you put up a lot of very low priced items.. it will hit you more than the "average" joe that has a mix of high and low priced items if an item doesn't sell. For you, the nickle may really matter...so I guess you'll need to try to get up as much as possible before the increase. I'm certainly not suggesting anyone pad their shipping with an extra $5-6 bucks to make up the nickle..I plan on just passing along my new expenses, just like Penny's or Sears would do. I have never had anyone complain about my shipping prices.

My eBay/Paypal/Vendio bills were also very high last month..but so were my sales..both my usual items and the stuff from my house cleaning. When people seek me out, by the way, (my old clients), they don't even go through eBay..they buy direct, thanks to my invite to do so on the card I send in each and every package, so I don't think that my old clients play into it. For Feb and March I traditionally do the attic cleaning, so we'll see how the sales go this year compared to last year. Feb - March were pretty good last year. I will have some lower priced stuff going up also, but I'll stop if the sales don't out-perform the fees.

I guess the moral of the story is, you have to do what works for you..and as in everything, expenses go up. If we were brick and motar stores, the rent may have gone up over the new year..and just like death and taxes, eBay fees have again gone up. Since they are the only players on the block, our choices are limited..pay or get out of the game : ( And who knows..you may find that real treasure (like the frog or vase), which will further convince us, eBay is the place to sell, even if they up the fees. Don't be discouraged by the higher prices everyone..as long as you are still clearing an amount you are happy with, eBay is still worth it IMO. When I stop being happy, then I stop listing.

And I used to too LOL. Once you get a neg you didn't deserve, because you already left feedback, your thoughts may change LOL!

As a seller I leave feedback when the sale is complete. When they leave feedback and all is well, vrane.com then posts a positive back to them. I used to leave it if they wrote and told me all is well, but now that I use automatic feedback leaver, it has to wait until they leave it.

As a buyer, I leave it as soon as I get the item and am satisfied with it.

It's very individual and eBay really leaves it up the individual. The argument for when to leave it, will prob go on forever. I don't personally care if people leave it at all, since I think eBay's feedback program is flawed.

As a seller, I used to leave feedback as soon as the buyer paid. However, I have stopped because I've realized that the transaction isn't complete just because they have paid. I don't think a positive is warranted just based on payment alone. I don't require that the buyer leave feedback, just that they let me know they have received their package and all is well. I will then leave positive feedback.

I was just going through some boxes of things to photograph and list (I'm off of work most - if not all - of this week) and I had a brainstorm.. (Look out - that could be dangerous!! LOL)

Anyhow - there are lots of things that "might" sell, but even at 30 cents an auction (let alone 35 cents) I'm not sure I want to put them up right now.. However, on a free listing day I'd love to let 'em rip - so...... Is there someplace in the Turbo Lister where I could go ahead and get those auctions ready this week while I have the time and then save them in an entirely different section of that program so they wouldn't pop up with the inventory of items I'm going to list this week?

And if it IS possible, could you guide me through how it's done?

Thanks!

Without being able to go into Turbo Lister, I do know that you can create a new folder and then move the auctions to that folder. I did this with items that I had already listed, so they are still there if I need them later.

When I can get into Turbo Lister, I will post better directions, if someone else doesn't do so first.

The transaction is not complete until the item has been recieved. As DMRick stated, once you get an unwarrented neg on an item that you have already left FB on you will change your mind on when to leave FB.

I just did this with items that I can relist, but don't want to bother with at the moment, seasonal items for instance.

At the top where it says FILE and click on New. There is an option to create a new file within "My listings" or subfolders if you wish. I've separated all of my clothing auctions too. It helps unclutter TL so you can find items later.

Gee, I could have written those exact words - that is how I do it as well.

However, on a free listing day I'd love to let 'em rip - so

Traditionally, there are two free Listing days a year..so you would be holding onto that stuff prob til next June. You'd actually have to be able to find it LOL! Remember, you were the person who wanted to sell in lots to get rid of stuff faster! To get back your extra nickle now, all you would have to do is put an extra nickle in your shipping..to get the .35 sent listing fee, you could pad your shipping with that small amount (unless you are really shipping small stuff..but even then, up to .50 is usually not a problem), and I'm betting no one will bat an eye. Also, traditionally, because there is so much stuff that goes up for free listing day (someone posted the stats on another board..wow!) the buyers usually get bargains..so you would be more likely to get back your listing fees (the .35) under a regular listing. Why not use some of the lower priced stuff as an incentive? For instance, sell a Mickey mouse watch, and in the title, put free coloring book..that way you can get rid of your lower selling items, and get more attention for the items that bring more money. Just a suggestion.

My cable has been out all day, TV & Internet. I had lots to ship and finally ended up just hand printing the lables the old fashion way. My postman is so spoiled to me already having everything ready to go, so they moaned and groaned today.

Does anyone know if ebay is down? I've tried two browsers and cannot seem to get into any auction.

I was bidding, and then BOOM! Nothing!

Thanks!

I've got it up. It's seems slow but I can get it. Reboot and see if that helps.

I can't get in either.. Maybe a "regional" outtage?

I rebooted. I have both IE and MSN browsers. In each case I can get into the front page only, not through any links or favorites.

Uh oh.. now I can get in to my ebay page, but everything is gone!
