Someone had questioned earlier about Halloween costumes. I just want to say LIST LIST LIST! Mine are doing Awesome! (childrens) Actually all of my auctions are doing Great! It has surprised me soooo much! I usually list about 5-7 things, then wait on them to end & then maybe I'll list a few more. They are doing so good, that it has inspired me to list everyday. At least 6/day. I'm currently up to 49 auctions going at once with another one to finish tonight. so that will make 50! Plus I had 4 BIN earlier in the week. I had written a few days ago about some (43) old magazines that I bought for $2. I separated them into years & now I have one lot of them up to $39.99 with 4 days left to go! YEAY EBAY!!!

If you don't mind me asking what magazines were they? I see so many things in my travels, but I just don't know what to pick up. It seems everything I do get turns out to be non-sellers. (well, at least after I research them) What oh what am I doing wrong..........

You're welcome!:)

Okay - how do I do my research? Well - in several ways..

Take children's toys for instance.. (There are SOOOO many to be had in garage sales that are like brand new - not to mention the ones my granddaughter has outgrown..) I usually search by manufacturer - such as "Fisher Price", "Playskool", etc. - unless I want to research something specific - like doll houses, games, etc..

For holiday items (Halloween, Christmas, etc.) I just search by the holiday name..

BUT where I find my best categories is in "Collectibles".. I think many people assume that collectibles means "antiques" and nothing could be further from the truth.. People collect all sorts of things - new, old, and everything in between.. I have sold CURRENT brochures from places of interest for as much as $12 a piece! Yes - that's $12 for one piece of paper!!!! Also, what some people don't realize is that if you click on "Collectibles" on the left hand side of the home page and then go to the very bottom of the list of collectibles in very small print it says something like "show all categories" and if you click on THAT you could be reading for days on end!!! Hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of sub-categories in collectibles!!

Ok...I get that part now but in order to see completed items you have to put something in to search for. Like I can't just go to say piggy banks and see all the completed items. I've been looking at childrens books for instance. I just want to see what titles are selling. But it doesn't let me see a broad view, right? I have to put a title or author or whatever in the search. Am I doing something wrong? Also, where did you search for brouchures? I looked at the catergory but didn't see really anything that sold except old stuff. Obviously I'm doing something wrong, but what???????
Thanks for all your help too if I haven't already said that somewhere!!!;)

The magazines are American Boy and are from 1930, 1931, 1932 & 1933. I got them from a garage sale, but the lady I bought them from had gotten them from an estate sale and just wanted to get rid of them.

Okay - I just went and checked myself and you're right - most of the brochures up right now at from the 60' and 70's.. However, that isn't always the case.. But this is how you would get where you need to go for the brochures step by step:

***HINT: Whenever researching ANY item, keep a close eye on the left-hand column of the page - that is where you can keep breaking the category down further and further..

go to ebay page
click on Collectibles on left
Click on Post Cards & Paper on left
Click on Brochures on left
Click on 1960 - Now on left
THEN - if it's travel brochures you have you need to type travel in that search box on the left AND check off titles & descriptions too
Then click on "completed"
-------------------

Clear as mud - right??? LOL

Basically that is what you would do for everything - keep breaking it down further and further - UNLESS you have an actual title or something that would work in the main search (but it doesn't always)..

When I search for things to keep an eye out for in garage sales and such though I don't really search for "specifics" - just general categories because you never know who is looking for what, when..

I know I'm not making sense - and probably confusing you further, but I just got up from lying in bed trying to get rid of another blasted migraine and I'm not thinking too clearly..

Sorry if I've made the situation less clear instead of more.. :(

When you ship out using DC, do any of you ever go to the usps site and just check to see the status. I do and everytime I go, no matter what dc number I type in, it always says the same thing, To check back later. Does the usps ever update their tracking site.

When listing in 2 catagories is there any way to find out which catagory is getting you the bids? I have been listing in 2 catagories and after a while the double fees add up and I'm wondering if one catagory is the better one then I would just list in that one.

AGAIN THANKS
Denise

I'll add my 2 cents here, also... Magazines don't have to be old, though it helps. If you have a collection that pertains to a very specific topic, and it is a complete year or years, try it. That said, "vintage" magazines are great. So far I have had success with Arizona Highways issues from the '50s through the '80s, and I've sold them in lots of 4 for $8 to $12 per lot, Polaris Magazine, which I found 11 sequential issues from '44 and '45, and got $40 for all of them, then the motherlode box of TV, Radio and Electronics magazines from the '50s, '60s and '70s. There were at least 12 different titles, so I grouped them that way. The more famililar ones have sold, and some of the more obscure have not, but I've already gotten my investment back on them 5 or 6 times over, so will try some creative marketing down the road.

C. Ann or others can you help me out with this,

I was having an awful week with listings this week so I thought I'd do a little research to see if I could tell why. I have a few Halloween decoration items for bid and when I went to do a search on Halloween decorations, my items weren't there. I looked all over. I noticed that in the title of my description, Halloween decoration was not the first two words in the title. Could this be why I can't find them? Or is it just sorted by the categories you choose when you list the item?

Thanks for your help.

Martha

I don't think they do any updating until the package is delivered. I do like you and check after a couple of days, just to be sure....but always get the same message as you, until I get the delivered message.

What I do if I am listing something that I am not sure of how to catagorize is to type in on the search (I will use your example) "Halloween Decorations", then I will click onto one of the auctions and read across the top of the listing to see how that person entered his info....for example the one I checked listed as "collectable"..."Holiday,Seasonal"...."Halloween"..."Contemporary (1960 to present)"..."Mixed Items". I go through a few listings and if that is what others used, I just follow the same process as I make a new listing. Not very scientific, but it is quite helpful if it is a new or different item that I am not familiar with. Mostly I list clothing, but a week ago I needed to list a cable modem....nothing I am familiar with. I used the process above and my item sold with a BIN within 4 hours of listing. So it did work for me.........I am sure others will have some different ideas for you as well. Sometimes the ebay choices for the initial catagory are not so clear.

Today is the day that most of my buyer should receive their items. I'm sitting here on pins and needles waiting for e-mails from them complaining about their winnings. I know (I hope) I did everything right. I detailed everything in the listings, packaged everything securely, RAN to the post office to get everything out, got all my DC numbers and yet I'm so nervous. I did get 3 replies yesterday from buyers saying that they got their items and were happy with them. But now 8 more people should be getting their stuff and I know that theirs always one in the bunch that can't be happy. So as my house needs to be straightened up, laundry to be done and errands to run, I can't seem to do anything without running to the computer to check my email. Is this a newbie thing or do you experienced sellers feel the same way. Hey, now I got to thinking, maybe my nerves will eat away at my insides and I'll loose some weight. Then I'll kill 2 birds with one stone, I'll get real skinny and make money at the same time.:p

Oh, don't I wish!!! ROFL!!!

Yes, I am obsessive about checking my auctions. No, I'm not obsessive about checking for emails afterward, though, because I know that people respond at their own pace. I also realize that the item I have a concern about is probably not the one that will be an issue - you'd need a crystal ball to figure that out.

I get the impression from your postings that you are very meticulous, and more than likely you have packed everything with care and in a way that you'd want to receive it. If that is the case, relax! You'll be fine. And if there is a wacko out there who is going to cause any difficulty in your eBay life, you'll more then likely be completely blindsided by it.

But think positive! You've already seen a few positive responses, and I'll bet you'll get a bunch more.

I'm trying to send a co-worker that website address for the eBay listing calendar (the one with the little weather icons, that forecast a good ending day for listings started at any given day of the week), and I don't have it bookmarked here. I went back through several pages of this thread since I know someone posted it recently... can't find it, though.

If any of you happen to have it handy and can repost the link today, I'd be very grateful!!! :teeth:

Thanks!

I appreciate that, and I now have it bookmarked, so I shan't need to ask again!

Cinders, am I confusing you with Cindy B, or did you just get back from WDW recently? Haven't seen you posting on this thread lately, or am I mistaken? If I'm thinking right, just want to say glad you're back! And if I'm mixed up, sorry!

Hi Everyone,

An update on my buyer that thought the manual was missing. As suggested I emailed her back and described the item and asked her to look again. Well she emailed me back today and said, yes this was in there (I guess she thought it was something else) and she was sorry for the confusion! I am so relieved!!! I really thought I was going crazy;-) Anyway. thanks for the support and back to happy times!

I just started last week so count this under NEWBIE BLONDE MOMENT :)

I've got an auction ending tomorrow for 1 Kellogg Kash--I had put a starting bid for 22c and somebody's already jumped on it. The cost of listing it was 30c!!!

DOH!

DOH DOH DOH!!!!

Alright, C. Ann--I changed "stupidity" to "blonde moment" (no offense to my other fair haired sisters)

And you were right, I've got a couple of extra bids in and there's still seven hours left. I've made it over the 30c mark for the Kellogg Kash and don't feel as foolish now :)

Thanks again for your support!

I'm so glad to hear that she found it! That story was stressing me out; that's something we all dread. Here's to happy endings!

Help!
I just received an email from a lady wanting to know if I will ship something to Spain. I've never had that inquiry before. It's an auction for a pair of baby shoes, so would be a pretty small/light package.

To me, shipping costs seem prohibitive, but if she wants to pay them, I guess it's up to her.

My question is...Is there a better way to ship than USPS? If so, who? And where would I go to find the shipping cost?

Thanks.

You can go to the USPS website and go to calculate postage, it will give you the option of domestic (within US) or I belive international. Plug in shipping info (weight, destination, package type etc) and click calculate.

You can also go to UPS and calculate postage, same for FedEX.

I am guessing with a light weight item USPS will be the best option, at least it is within the US.
