Hi!

I found thi sboard and started postng on ebay about 3 weeks ago. Since we go to disney in less than a month, my goal was to pay for our dinner out each day--so far I am halfway there, and think I will make it!

I am booking a trip for November as soon as the PA rates come out, and my next goal will be to pay for the room!

I can't beleive how much "stuff" I have to sell, once I started looking!

Thanks for the great idea and advice!
Samantha

Welcome to the Ebayaholics jennymouse, Izabella92, and MontyMontyMOnty.

I still haven't gotten the postage thing down, and I checked out the USPS site and studied up on printing my own lables & buying postage, but I don't think my printer is good enough...it's an inkjet. Anyone know anything more on this?

As long as your computer prints out a clear label it doesnt matter what kind it is...the PO says it needs to be a laser but mine is an inkjet and I've had no problems.

Any one out there if they can explain to me on how to make the countdown time frame I would appreciate it
Countdown How To Thread You must test your countdown on that thread.

The reason they want a laser, is because most inkjets will bleed if just a drop of water (or snow) hits it. I use clear (not the yellowed) tape over my whole label. Now, they also say not to do that, because it might interfer with their scanning..however, if you use the clear, and make sure there are no wrinkles over the UPC code, you will be fine, and won't have to worry about smeared ink.

Yes, I can definitely second that... "My" postal worker said that it is much better to do as Doris describes than to risk having it smear. Isn't it cool to develop friendships with your local postal clerks?

Hey, another welcome to all the new posters on this thread! Jennymouse - I have enjoyed reading your past 2 trip reports - I feel like I know you already! Glad to have you among all the great people contributing to this thread. Thanks for the info about starting on Thurs. for men's items... interesting!

It seems that with my auctions lately I have had a lot of people waiting until the absolute last minute to bid. While I realize that lots are watching until the end to snipe, I've never had SO many auctions go with no bids until the last 6 hours or so-wierd!!

That's been my experience lately, too. And, if not the last 6 hours, at least the last 12 or 18 hours, anyway.

Just wondering what your thoughts are on my situation. I had an auction end on the 11th of Aug. I notified the winner and they answered right away. This is a first time buyer. She stated that she was going to pay through paypal. After more than the three days past I sent a reminder. She e-mailed me back again asking if I had received payment from paypal, which I hadn't. When I told her this she said she'd been having problems with it and would pay on friday the 22nd. I gave her that time but still no payment. Saturday I emailed her again asking her to pay that day. Again she replied right away saying she'd been out of town and still was having problems with paypal since she was new and promised to pay within the next few days. Today there still isn't a payment. Should I NPB her? I am trying to be patient since she is new but don't want to wait too long. There were other bidders too that I could have sent a second chance to as well. Of course this woman keeps telling me she wants the purchase. I've never had a non-paying bidder yet so I am new to this part of selling.

Thanks for your help!!
Vicky

Vicky,
You have certainly given her plenty of chances and have been very patient. If you do file the NPB (which I think would be a good idea), and then she does finally pay you, the NPB can be retracted. I would also not leave any feedback until there is a final resolution.

Thanks for the welcomes and the tip on the clear tape! I didn't think I could use tape at all. What brand do you recommend? Now, if you do your own postage over the computer, do you all just let the mailman/woman pick up the packages at home?or do you still take them to the postoffice? I guess you'd have to still take them to the postoffice to see if you got the postage right? I guess it wouldn't do for the package to arrive to the customer with postage still due!LOL:eek:

I've got lots of stuff to sell, but I've done searches and it doesn't look like most of the stuff I have sells very well. My mother passed away in May and I sold my house and moved in with my 80 year old father, so there's lots of stuff of mine I don't need anymore. I gave lots to my DD & brother, but still have some. Of course, there's all those clothes and stuff of Mom's that I need to do something with, but, I just can't go there yet. I actually took a picture of a pair of her shoes that she never got to wear, but I couldn't post it.:( Unpersonal(is that a word?) stuff I have no problems with, just clothes and stuff. I still kinda like them hanging in her closet.:D

Mrs. Snowgod, you mean you feel like you know me and I'm still allowed on this thread!LOL C.Ann is doing just an excellent job starting this thread and keeping everyone pumped up & DMRick & others are sooo full of knowledge. I emailed this thread to my friends here at work who just started ebaying too. I think the size of it overwhelmed them though.LOL I've thought a couple times about going through this thread and doing a cut/paste on just the tips and posting it so us newbies could copy it for a referance, but haven't had the chance yet. Maybe soon.

Keep up the good work everyone! If I get any more tips I'll let you know!

Anyone have a link to costs for priority mail? I know the flat rate envelope is $3.85, but not sure if the PO will let me mail this outfit in a flat rate envelope. I can get it in and get it closed, but it is kind of bulky.

I've just begun listing items on ebay, and my first one closed this morning. It's for tickets to a football game. I had a last minute bid from a new ebay member - 0 feedback. I sent them an invoice via ebay and paypal so I can fedex the tickets this afternoon. They replied that they did not bid, that they created an account, but did not place a bid. What do I do?

www.usps.com Along the top in the red where it says calculate postage.

I would find the story hard to believe....but, if you want you could contact ebay and send along a copy of the email and reference your item number. Ebay is usually very good at getting back to you quickly. Unless ebay is able to see show this would have happened and agree to refund your fees, you will probably have no choice but to file a NPB form to recoup your fees.

I think the flat rate envelope that you are referring to is for document/flat item shipping only. There is no weight limit, but I believe there is a thickness limit. The best way to get the information would probably be to phone your local post office.

Does anyone make weekly goals for your eBay "business"? Maybe each week we could start a thread to post your goals for the week...I tend to get things done if I put them in writing (and they are clear in my mind).

I'll go first, my goal for the week is to list 20 items in TurbLister with pics. I won't upload till after the holiday but it will be ready to go. How about you??

Unfortunately, I find my story hard to believe too - especially on the first thing I've tried to sell:( I will look on ebay for contact information to see if they can help me in some way. I've gone to the NPB form, but I can't submit that for 7 days and of course the tickets are for a game on Thursday night.

I did e-mail the "winner" to see if he would send me a message verifying that he does not want the tickets so I can try to sell them through second chance, but at this point, it's getting pretty late to try to get them sold and FEDEXed in time for the game!

If anyone else has any thoughts on my situation, I would really appreciate it. Like I said, I'm new to ebay so I don't really know all of my options:D

claudia,

Thanks for your suggestion!! I had to go out this afternoon and figured on filing when I got back home. When I got home, lo and behold I got confirmation of payment and a nice e-mail from the lady thanking me for my patience!! I'm glad I didn't have to file a NPB!!!

Thanks again!
Vicky

I think I have single handedly caused my post office to no longer allow you to tape the flat rate envy LOL! If it fits, and you can shut it normally, you can use it. My stuff did fit but I was afraid it would break, and since it weighed almost 10#'s I tape the entire package. I was told recently, that they can no longer be taped since some people were "stretching" it's use (well, duh, that would be me LOL!).

What have I been missing out on here?? You put 10 lbs. of something in a Priority Flat Rate envelope???? What did it cost to send it???

I thought the only thing you could put in those envelopes was like a few sheets of paper - or a magazine or something...

HELP !!!!!!! I could probably be charging less postage on some things if I knew the in's and out's of the Priority envelopes..

Not too bright of a "teacher" - am I ????? :(

I didn't realize that you had more than one bidder on your item....if you do then definitely send them a second chance offer right away.....I am so sorry that you had such an unfortunate bidding experience, I hope that the second chance will come through for you. Best of Luck
P.S., at any rate, I would still get in contact with ebay about the bidder telling you that they never placed a bid....

Thanks Claudia!

I'll do the second chance. It makes me a little nervous that this guy might change his mind or something, but I do have his e-mail to me saying that he didn't place the bid.

I hope my other auctions run more smoothly!

Don't worry...you have done everything the right way. Sometimes you hit a bump in the road with people on ebay.....looks like it happened right away to you (it happens to almost everyone at some point) so it should be smooth sailing for quite a while.....
