My brother recently started selling some old machine parts on Ebay and is doing very well. He decided to try to sell his old beater of a car and it sold for over $500. It wasn't even running and hadn't been registered in a few years. He had it parked at my Dad's business and it was broken into so it was quite a mess. The guy brought him a money order and was quite pleased - go figure!

Funny you should say that.. I have a car that I just let the registration run out on because my DH is no longer able to drive.. It's been hit a couple of times and looks yucky, has high miles, but runs GREAT! Most relieable car I EVER had - a 1987 Dodge Lancer..

I really toyed with the idea of putting it on eBay but venturing into eBay motors scares me.... Would love it if I could get a couple of hunderd bucks for it though..

Decisions..decisions....

Why does it scare you? It is no different then Ebay, just a "Subdivision." I sold an antenna ball on Ebay Motors and found it absolutely no different then ebay. Take the plundge C.Ann!

I thought about selling my car on eBay once but it's the fact that you have to deal with a buyer face to face that concerns me. The anonymity of a postal customer is a different animal completely. I don't know who I'm meeting and who knows, they may just want to KILL me when they saw my car! :p Now if it were an accessory that's a another story!

Okay, this makes sense. Honestly I didn't even think about this factor/issue.

LOL, Mrs. Snowgod!! If it was those darned shoes I'd be in HEAVEN or on my way to Orlando, AGAIN! :bounce:

Congrats on the magazines! I keep hoping for my motherlode to come through!

Welll... I suppose I could make my son-in-law come over here when "the deal is goin' down...." ;)

Hey! I just bought 3 airline tickets on-line a half-hour ago and now I'm scared to death I won't have enough money for everything else!! A girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do...

I told my DD we may have to stay in some flea-bag motel and she said, "No problem - we'll all wear flea collars ...." LOL

If the car the runs, I would considered meeting at a public place (of course with your son-in-law :) ) rather then having the person know where I lived.

Maybe you could meet somewhere. I have met at our local McD's three times now, we exchanged "car" info so we'd know. Felt like I was doing a "deal" someone hands me $$ and I hand them a bag!

Oh man - are we a desperate bunch or what??? LOL

Just talked to my DD and told her she had two choices as far as accomodations go - "The Rockin' Roach Inn" - or if she wasn't comfortable with that, we could "upgrade" to the award-winning "Friendly Flea Bag Bungalows.."

Anyone here auctioning off roach spray or one-size-fits-all flea collars? :teeth:

I just received an email from a buyer wanting to know where here item was. I sent it prioirty w/ DC on 8/1. So I went and tracked the number. According to the Post Office website they have tried delivery twice and left notices. Also, it says that the package is set to be returned if not picked up by 8/14. I emailed this women back and told her that she really needed to make arrangements with her Post Office tomorrow.

I always charge a flat fee for shipping. Sometimes I make a small profit, sometimes I lose alittle. In her case I actually lost $1.20 on shipping. (For the year I am still ahead by $15.00 so I am okay with this loss). However, if this item is returned. Can I charge her the actual amount to resend it to her? I am just really hoping she goes to the Post Office tomorrow.

C.Ann! Don't go the flea motel route. Let me know when you're going and maybe I can help you out!

That's what I do when they don't pick it up..it comes back..they have to send me the correct postage to get it back. After all..I have prove I sent it. Be sure she knows that. Do you have free cellphone minutes to call her? If not, if you pm me the particulars I'll call her for you and tell her it's waiting for her..I have tons of free minutes.

CAnn..no need to stay fleabag..we stayed at the Hyatt for $34 or $37 a night..very nice..10 minutes from our parking spot to Ticket and Trans. Lots of very reasonable places to eat near. Plus keep an eye on Mary's mousesavers...she's had some nice deals.

C.Ann - There is supposed to be some $20.03 deal at the Marriott in Downtown Disney as well. Check the WISH thread for Ray Sharpton's posts. He has a link to it in his sig.

DMRick-- thank you for the offer to call her that's very sweet. I did get an email back from her saying she would be at the post office first thing today. So, I asked her to let me know she gets it and she did just a little bit ago(close call on that one). Believe it or not, she told me she didn't know why the post office was leaving her these little orange slips. (Umm, get a clue lady)

Guess I dont get this. We've sold vehicles through classified type papers and have never had a problem with anyone that showed up here. Its not like you live in a secret bubble. A thief isnt going to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on your car on the off chance you are a very elderly person that lives alone without a phone to call 911. Just dont give them any personal information and dont let them into your house. Garage sales are more apt to spark the curiousity of a thief.

Don't get me wrong, it's not FEAR I'm concerned about. Buying and selling a car always gives me the creeps because I don't know much about them. I like the anonymity eBay gives, and not having to deal with the attitudes and questions of a face to face sale is way more like what I like.

I know millions of people sell cars that way every day. I just don't feel comfortable doing that kind of selling.

As I watched the news last night I thought of those of you in NY state and Ohio. I hope all of you are doing OK & have your power back.

Hugs to all of you who need it!

I'm in Bergen county, NJ and we were w/o power from about 4:15 till 10pm last night. It was darn hot w/o the AC, but we're all fine. More than anything it was scary until we knew for sure that it wasn't terrorism. We were at work when the power went and at first we all thought it was nearby construction that kicked off the power. Then we started trying to make phone calls and couldn't get through to anyone. :( It was like 9/11 all over again. We had no radios and started thinking it was terrorism and got a bit freaked out. So we all left. As I was driving home (in bumper to bumper traffic b/c all the traffic lights were out) they were saying on the radio that it wasn't terrorism, so that made me feel a bit better. Sorry for rambling. Hope everyone else in the area is ok and has power (apparently not everyone does yet).

Lori

Funny, I'm in NJ as well, and nothing happened. We went to the movies and had no idea any of this happened until we returned..
