I buy chipboard (don't buy it off ebay..it's too expensive) which is the gray stuff on the back of a 8.5 X 11 notepad from places that cater to printers (Xpedx, Kelly Paper, etc) or the heaviest cardstock I can buy, and put it in clear envie's from www.clearbags.com (size B118). That's how I take their pictures and sell them on eBay. I used to have a list of which ads did the best, but I can't put my hands on it. Of course any car ad does well.

Oh my!! You mean now I have to start searching through all of these GAZILLIONS of old magazines I have here looking for ADS??? What am I looking for? I know right off the top of my head that I have several Good Housekeeping mags from 1949..

Will I EVER get done finding things to list??????? I'm beginning to think I should be doing this 24 hours a day - LOL!

And yes- I need the packing stuff.. I'll PM you or send you an email so we can figure out a good time and place...

Mmmmmmmm.... Don't you just LOVE the color GREEN????? ;)

Does chipboard come in various weights? If so, what is the best weight to use for mailing ads? Do you mail the ads in regular envelopes or padded ones? I have tons of old magazines.

I've only seen the chipboard in the one thickness...although I see it in 11 X17 and 8.5 X 11.

CAnn...My ads were older..war years down to late 1800's..but I've seen newer ones too. You never know why someone would want a certain ad. I put up a bassinet ad, and someone bought it, had it mounted and it's hanging in her child's room, over the same bassinet that had been her mother's or grandmothers. She sent me a picture and it's adorable.
Some people have their house decorated in retro and like the ads, some people collect certain things.

I've also seen old recipes and patterns from good housekeeping magazines on eBay, Hershey ads, etc.

Well I have shipped exactly 14 items out with no problem. I was just going through my receipts and matching them up to the DC's when I realized that I forgot to insure one of my packages going out and of course, it's going to Hawaii. Do I just email the receipient and make arrangements to pay them back for the insurance? Has anyone else done this? I was doing so well too. I hope it gets there ok.

Have a question for some of you.. A neighbor at the lake gave me some collectible things he wants me to list and sell for him.. It's going to take quite a bit of research and time on my part but they're good friends so I figured I would give it a shot..

Now - WHAT should I charge? Should it be 50/50 after he pays all the fees (eBay, Paypal, etc.)? I will be shipping the items myself because how they arrive reflects on ME and MY feedback, so I want to make sure they are packaged and shipped correctly..

Also, as some of these items could draw a large sum of money I'm assuming he'll want to place a reserve.. How does that work in terms of eBay fees? And if the items are to be insured, who pays for it and how do you decide on the value?

Thanks for any info you can provide!!

I got some advice from a PowerSeller that I've found really helpful... don't sell for someone, BUY their stuff THEN sell it. That way it's all on you.

I've turned down everyone but my sister when it comes to selling for them, it causes too much confusion. Also, if they sell something that doesn't reflect your style or is up to your standards, you may pay with neg feedback.

I don't know if you can front the money but if you can only buy from him what you know you can sell and for a fair price.

JmHo.

That would be ideal..except that the people usually want way too much, since they don't want to sell to you wholesale. They always think their stuff is worth tons and the bidders will come out of the closet. If you do buy from them cheaply and they watch you on eBay and see you sell for a lot, they may think you cheated them. I'd be careful with this. One of the gals on one of my eBay lists has this listed in the ebook she sells on eBay..she used this exact thing as am excerpt, and several people on the board didn't think it was a very good idea when you knew the people. Now if you didn't know them and could get them to sell to you for much less than you know you could get, it would be perfect!

:bounce: Just got my BLUE star!! :bounce:

C.Ann, I remember when you posted that you got yours and I thought, WOW, all I want is TEN so I can do BUY IT NOW!

Wow, things do happen quickly!

And i dont have a clue how or to where do i pay the income tax. If anybody has info or links on how to do this tax payment then please share.

Before you can collect sales tax from them legally, you have to have gotten your states income tax certificate. You would apply through your state, and then they would send you a form to fill out either 4 times a year or once a year, and you would give them their tax at this time. You will have a resale tax number. Have you done this yet? If not, then you can't collect the tax from them. Check with your states laws.

Wow! This has been a busy day and night for me!! I've been trying to list off and on all day and either I have JUST the right stuff - people have money leftover from the holiday weekend - there's a full moon - or everyone is doing drugs - BUT - whatever the case may be, I'm no sooner getting the stuff up and I'm getting bids.. Very, VERY unusual lately.. Also had a bunch of things end (and sell) so I'm dashing off invoices left and right..

Right now I'm trying to get more stuff uploaded via Turbo and it keeps telling me the network is busy or not responding or some such nonsense.. Anyone else having a problem tonight with Turbo?

-----------------

About the friend that wants me to sell his stuff - it was acutally HIM that suggested the 50/50 after he pays the expenses (listing fees, etc.) - so when and IF I have time, I'll do the research, show him what the stuff might go for, tell him how I would list it, and then he can decide what he wants to do.. 'Course I don't know why he doesn't just do it HIMSELF - WE all know how EASY it is - right???? ;)

-------------------

Can't wait to get more stuff listed.. I always liked the color "green", but now I REALLY like GREEN!! LOL

------------

Oh - almost forgot to ask - is anyone else getting a notice when they're posting about having too many smilies and things and you have to hit the back button and delete them?? Is this some new rule on the DIS board?

Thanks! Unfortunately, I still don't understand what smilies and bouncy things have to do with HUGE photographs.. Guess I'm STILL computer illiterate.. :(

Here's a silly ? When printing a label using shipping assistant do you have to select view label and then select print on the acrobat screen? Also my label didn't come out looking like the priorty ones on the usps web site they look kind of fuzzy:confused:
I just sold my first CD on half and I just listed it last night:bounce: now if only my eBay auctions would get some bids.
Thanks for the help!

Okay...
first off I have very very old Japanese warrior dolls that I 'know' have some value but have no idea where to look for information. I have been unsuccessful finding anything similar on ebay. Any ideas where to research these??

secondly, DMRICK I see that you mentioned old receipts and ads and I am just facinated by this! My Dh's Dad was just talking last week about finding a box of receipts from the 20's where they bartered for chickens! and one for a diamond ring that was mere dollars!
I wondered if these receipts would be worth anything...was this what you were talking about?

If you post a picture over on the Vendio.com eBay boards, someone will give you ideas on worth and how to list it.

I actually was talking about recipes in magazines (old) like Good Housekeeping..often they are part of ads of cooking products. But I have found that often, while it may take a couple of listings, just about anything will sell on eBay. It only takes one collector (or two bidding against each other, which I prefer LOL) to sell some obscure item.

Boy - am I ever living proof of that! I still can't believe the weird stuff that people will buy - and the prices that they'll pay for it..

Guess what it all boils down to is that everyone collects "something" and if you have that "something" up at the right time, someone is going to buy it..

I've also found that if an item doesn't sell after a relisting, sometimes it will sell in a heartbeat if you can combine it with some other "like" item..

This is turning out to be a SUPER week for me! Gonna list like crazy today and tomorrow and hope the trend continues..;)

Yaaaaaaay eBay!

Nelle,

You posted several pages back about selling DS's CDs. We too have an extensive, worthless collection. Mine have been slowly trickling out for 2-5 bucks profit on Amazon. My husband has been whining about it when I sold a Sting Cd that I've never heard. "But I like Sting!" is what he said. I will try in the future to ask him before I put them up for sale.

It really amazes me that anyone wants them. Yesterday I sent a copy of Wynonna to Alaska.

Please let me know how you do on half.com.

Lori

Lori, I sold my DH's first CD last night and when he found out that it was Dave Matthews band he complained and said that with his new truck (which he got yesterday) he'd listen to the CD's more yeah right:rolleyes: they havn't been out of the box in 4 years and we have 3 CD players in the house! If he hadn't been reading over my shoulder last night he would of never known.
When you ship CD's do you usually ship first class or media? The lady at the post office said it would be cheaper to ship first class but I already had the label on there for media mail so I let it go media.
Also does anyone know how much DC is on first class if printed off the shipping assistant? I still can't get this shipping assistant thing figured out:rolleyes:
Thanks

? for the Ebay vets!

What are your thoughts on opening auctions to international bidders? I know I would need to specify MO on US funds or PayPal, but the shipping is what worries me. How difficult is it? I had a guy from France ask me if I would ship a paper item to him. After looking at the USPS website, I quoted him $5.00, but I really don't have a clue. Is it better to just not ship internationally?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Susan
