half.com?
I've been meaning to sell some of my DH's CD's for awhile now so I looked some of the CD's up they were selling for .75 not including shipping. Is it worth it to sell for .75 by the time I pay eBay's fees I'll have nothing left. Most of the CD's are early 90's and still in origional cases. Also what's the average time it takes to sell CD's on half? I was ready to sit down and start listing until I saw what the asking price for some and now I'm discouraged. If my DH found out that I sold his CD's for .75 he'd hang me:eek: ;) . Any suggestion's should I try half.com and see how it goes? Are there any other places to sell CD's?
Thanks for hearing me gripe:)

Half.com costs you nothing to try. You never pay a fee until your item sells. And, unlike on eBay, your items stay on Half.com until you take them off or they sell. You can even go on "vacation" and suspend sales until you return.

Also, they pay you a preset amount for shipping based on what the item weighs and what media mail will cost. You bear the cost of shipping materials like bubble envelopes and mailing labels.

I listed several of the kids' old books last month. Some went for as low as 75¢. The Half.com commission was 11¢. Even factoring in the cost of mailers, I made more than I would have gotten at a garage sale and I didn't have to sit around all day to get it. Half.com emails you when you have a sale to confirm.

Overall, I would have to say that I'm pretty satisfied with the way my sales are going. I figure that a few more dollars here and there for stuff that's sitting in storage around the house is worth the small effort.

By the way, I looked into listing at Amazon.com but I found their commission fees to be a little too steep for my items. Make sure that you weigh that in your decision to list things.

Mad4themouse, I agree! I am planning to group a few of the lower-selling items together for an ebay auction. I do figure that even for low-selling items, I made more money than I would have at a yard sale. I also just sold a set of "listening CDs" from DH's Music Appreciation class that went for $69! Woohoo!

Thanks for the Shipping Assistant link. I was able to get it all up and working.

Well, I listed 17 items on e-bay yesterday. All are children's items. Most are NWT or NIP. No bids yet, but I'm hopeful that it all sells!

How do you all determine your starting bid on something that is new? I went about $1-$2 over what I paid for it and hoped for the best.

Also, those of you experienced e-bayers, do you buy new stuff specifically for the purpose of selling it on e-bay? With the sales at TDS lately, it almost seems like it would be worth it--especially if you hold the items until closer till Christmas.

Now, if I can just figure out the shipping and shipping assistant stuff, I guess I will be set. Can someone post the link to order the priority mail boxes and supplies delivered to your house. I think that will be easier for me. Then I can just get DH to stop at the PO on his way to work.

Nuke and Mad4the mouse Thanks for all of your input. I think I will try half.com it seems really easy to list and I forgot that they don't charge you until it sell's. These CD's have been sitting in a box collecting dust for the last 5 years and now they are going to help me pay for our trip:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: .
Thanks again.

I bought DD three outfits at TDS at 75% off. She couldn't wear the shorts (too tight) and didn't care for all the princess tops (I got like 6!) so I listed 2 outfits and one didn't sell. Relisted and still didn't sell. The other I got $14.99 (I paid about $9.00) so with the listing fees and Paypals fee and my bubble envelope I made about $4.00 or less. Not worth it but it saved me a rather long trip to return it to the Disney store.

I'm sure this is on the e-bay site, but I'll ask here first--

If your item doesn't sell, do you still pay e-bay fees? Also, if you relist, do you have to pay again?

Yes, you do pay the fees if it doesn't sell. If you relist and your items sells the second time, you get your LISTING fee back. If you have optional features, gallery, BIN, etc., you have to pay them both times. HTH

From a fairly frustrating holiday weekend in the mountains at the lake.. Some ding-dong decided to do some landscaping in his yard with a backhoe and cut the fiber optic line in half which knocked 4 area codes out of internet service for over two days!! I couldn't check my auctions - couldn't find out if I had emails asking questions - and couldn't post here!! YIKES!! By last night I had the "shakes".. LOL

---------------

I'm back home now and need to get busy listing today.. Just answered all the emails - now I have to send invoices for items that sold and package up things that were paid for by Paypal. Also have quite a few auctions ending today and tomorrow, so I think I'm going to be VERY busy!!

---------------------

Have a question for some of you.. A neighbor at the lake gave me some collectible things he wants me to list and sell for him.. It's going to take quite a bit of research and time on my part but they're good friends so I figured I would give it a shot..

Now - WHAT should I charge? Should it be 50/50 after he pays all the fees (eBay, Paypal, etc.)? I will be shipping the items myself because how they arrive reflects on ME and MY feedback, so I want to make sure they are packaged and shipped correctly..

Also, as some of these items could draw a large sum of money I'm assuming he'll want to place a reserve.. How does that work in terms of eBay fees? And if the items are to be insured, who pays for it and how do you decide on the value?

Thanks for any info you can provide!!

Now - WHAT should I charge?

Just back from vacation, for a week and lots of mail to read before I head back out.

If you can get her to pay you 50/50, that's a great coup! Usually the price is less than 25, as low as 10 if it's a higher prices item. eBay actaully has a area on their community boards for people who sell for others. I posted the addy several pages (or more, I havent' been here for a week) back.

Insurance would be what the item sold for (excluding shipping costs). Keep good records, because this is truly a business..you may not mind paying inclome taxes on the amount you sell for yourself, but you don't want to get stuck paying them on the amount you sell for her. As this is a business, be sure to apply for your resale cert from NYS, so you can collect and pay sales tax of items sold within NYS. If your person wants to start at a lower price than they are actually hoping to get for the item, then a resere price would come into play. If the item sells for more than the reserve, you won't have to pay the reserve listing fee (but of course still the listing fee, which is based on the reserve price)..if it doesn't reach reserve, then you'll have to pay the reserve fee as well as the listing fee.

Have everything in the contract..what comes out of her pocketbook and what comes out of yours.

i just listed an item and put a picture in the Gallery - however, i was charged the regular 25 cents instead of the penny it was supposed to be (for listings starting July 7-13) - anyone else have this problem? am i going to get a credit for 24 cents, or do i have to email Ebay, or should i just let this go! thanks :)

Is this eBay US or eBay Canada? I don't see it on the announcement board.

Is there any reason to keep paperwork from your sales once the sale is complete, shipped and feedback has been left from your buyers?

Let me know what you think.

Thanks,

Martha

I keep mine for income taxes...also if the person paid by credit card or Paypal, and decides in a month or two they don't like it, and would like to do a chargeback because they "say" they didn't get the item..you have your DC and postal receipt. Or if they decide it arrived damaged, you can prove how long they had it in hand.

This is for Canada, not the US.

lilsonicfan:

You have to log into the e-Bay Canada site or if you use an auction helper make sure it is set to post on the Canada site.

I just received an "ask seller a question" email from Ebay, it is from someone trying to obviously sell me something. Is there a way to forward it to Ebay to report them??

Here is a copy of it:
