Just got an email from someone who missed out on one of my auctions. She wanted me to email her to let her now when I listed more I sold 7 out of my 9 items listed.

I feel much better today about my Ebay experiences. The only thing that is bothering me is people who aren't leaving feedback. I didn't go through the ID verify and I don't have enough feefback to do Buy It Now - which I would really like to be able to offer on some of my auctions. I even emailed a nice reminder to 3 and they said they would get to it. Is this a problem anyone else has?

I know when I talked to a friend of mine she said she had bought on Ebay and never left feedback

As a new seller, I, too, am disappointed that people aren't leaving feedback (yet). I always try to leave feedback for the seller as soon as I can after I receive my shipment. However, I haven't lost hope (yet) - it IS summer after all!!

I want to add that I am VERY pleased with my selling experience so far and THANKS AGAIN to everyone for the encouragement. I had a few items not sell, but I am not relisting yet due to upcoming vacations. As it is, I am waiting on four payments that have been mailed to me, so I can see why someone posted to close auctions two weeks before you go on vacation! And only one non-paying bidder on a $4.99 item. NOT bad at all.

WDW, here we come - with extra spending $$$$$$$$!!

Unfortunately I had to file one yesterday, Sandy.

It was quite simple, just follow the steps here: http://pages.ebay.com/help/community/npb.html
It's pretty cut and dry. After following all of the steps I filed to get my final fees back and they came back IMMEDIATELY. They even linked me to my account to show me that it did!

As for the JERK that I had to file for, he had a feedback of ZERO also, no excuse. If he had the presence of mind to log on to eBay, bid and have an email, he should at least respond!

I also agree about the negative remarks, they turn me off as a buyer. I realize that they've been burned and that's why they're putting this stuff there, but what they don't realize is that most people are honest and they're the ones who are being turned off, not the jerks.

Interesting thing happened to me yesterday...

After reading on this thread about the kind of words that show up in a search I checked on my counters and found a Disney item I had up was getting ZERO hits...

Soooooo....

I added the words "Mickey Mouse" and "Cinderella" to the description, the item had character stickers in it, and the article sold in hours on Buy It Now!!

I am sooooo guilty of this.... Thanks for the reminder.

I checked and realized I need to leave 25 feedbacks!! And I was insane waiting for the 10 so I could start Buy It Now (which I LOVE!) and I wasn't doing my job! I took the time to leave them just now.

Guess I'm one of the lucky ones.. My buyers tend to leave glowing feedback as soon as they receive their item and even though I've only been REALLY selling since April 1st, I have close to 75 already and usually receive an additional one or two every day.. It's not at all unusual for my buyers to also drop me an email when they receive their item.. Don't know what I'm doing to deserve all this attention, but I must be doing SOMETHING right - LOL!!

Now that I'm using the Turbo Lister for my auctions I'm not so sure it's a GOOD thing.. Without my telephone line being tied up while I list it's too easy for people to call and bug me..

Sheesh - don't they realize I'm working?????? LOL

Are you leaving FB for your buyers? I know that some folks here wait on FB until the buyers leaves theirs so they have have some leverage for a person with buyer's remorse. I'm not one of them. I leave FB as soon as I ship the item and I email the buyer that I have sent their item and that I have already left FB and then I ask for my FB .

In closing I say:

Thanks again for your purchase. We would appreciate it if you could leave us feedback at ebay.com after you have received your book and rate our transaction. We have already left positive feedback for you .

I get a lot of FB that way . I sold 11 things in the last month and I have 10 FB's.

Any ideas on where I could sell this item? I KNOW that ebay does not allow this item on their site, I am wondering if anyone has any creative ideas on if this is even worth any $ and where I could possibly sell it.

It is a pack of cigarrettes, "Developed by the Philip Morris INC. U.S.A. and Glavtabak U.S.S.R. in commemoration to the US/Soviet space cooperation."

It is made in the USSR. On the front of the pack it has
Apollo
Soyuz

And on the back it has it in russian writing. The pic is the same on front and back of a blue circle with a spacecraft on it. It is sealed.

It is just that it is an unusual pack of cigarettes, I am hoping someone might pay $ for it, but I don't know where to start, and I also would of course want to get the most $ for it that I can.

Any ideas???

Does Sotheby's handle this?

I don't understand buyers who bid on several auctions that all close at one time and pay some people but not others!!!

I have a bidder that won 2 of my auctions on 6/8. I have had no response AT ALL from her after 5 attempts, 3 from my e-mail account and 2 through E-bay. However, she won another auction on the same date that ended about 15 mins. prior to mine and she has paid that person and been left feedback. This is a person with a good FB rating. no negs, no neutrals, 87 pos. I just don't get that. I had this happen one other time, but the feedback rating was not that high and he wound up getting suspended. Has anyone else ever had this happen? It's just very frustrating to me.

I've mentioned recently that I had one bidder who won 3 auctions that all ended within 45 minutes of each other, and I never heard from her. She had a 26 in feedback with only positives. I emailed her 3 times over a week, following ebay's suggested course of action, and finally last night I requested the contact info.

You have to be involved in a transaction with the person to request this, and they send both parties the email with contact info. Well, within 10 minutes of getting the contact info email from ebay, this bidder FINALLY responded to my message of last night to say that she had been in the hospital, apologized, hoped she hadn't inconvenienced me, and would get the MO in the mail right away. So, I'm OK with that - at least I got a response.

If she hadn't responded, I would have called her tonight.

Some sites which deal with a specific product/service, have a FSOT (For Sale or Trade board connected with it). For example there is the pin trading board on that site.


Yes, Ebay doesn't do cigarettes, I got busted for auctioning COUPONS for cigarettes, not the actual cigarettes.

I would poke around a tabacco site, and see what develops.

I have to say thanks for C. Ann, and DMRick for some wonderful advice/tips. We've just been cleaning out the house (old soccer shoes, CD's, girls clothes, plates we FOUND in the attic) and have just about $100 net. That is so much better than a garage sale.


We will list some more in a few weeks.


I work in a school system (studying for a teaching degree), so this is a good thing for me since I'm not working right now!

Yes, I've been leaving feedback after I receive payment and ship the item - I let them know that the item has been shipped and that I have left them feedback. It's only been a few days....maybe I am just too impatient!! I'll be checking again in a few minutes! Thanks for the tips!

OOH- CindyB - Soccer shoes - is it too late in the season for them? Great idea - I have three pairs collecting dust in the attic.

Anybody ever sell china? I have brand new Noritake china for eight plus soup bowls and serving pieces also collecting dust (never been unpacked), and I am starting to think that if I haven't used it in over 10 years of marriage, do I REALLY need it??

Whew! What a week!

I got a little overly ambitious last week and cleaned out DD13's closet and drawers. That child grew an unbelievable amount since last summer and now nothing comes close to fitting!

Well, I put up a lot of LTD2 stuff that she outgrew- some of it still had tags on- as well as some other outgrown childrens' clothing. In all, I had about 60 auctions ending on Saturday and just about everything sold! Not only that, but almost everyone paid by PayPal and I had tons of boxes to mail.

Needless to say, this rookie had her hands full trying to keep all the records straight! Between mailing addressing, delivery confirmation numbers, auction numbers, and PayPal receipt numbers, I'm seeing digits in my sleep!

Any suggestions on how to keep your number straight? I was saving all the emails in an online file cabinet and then just copying and pasting the info into the appropriate boxes for shipping labels at USPS.com.

I also made an EXCEL spreadsheet to keep track of what I've taken in vs. what I've spent. It's rather depressing to see that over $100 has gone to the post office but I've taken in almost $300 profit so far with 2 unpaid-for auctions to go.

Any suggestions on recordkeeping would be appreciated. I'd like to keep the paper to a minimum. And thanks to everyone for all their suggestions. I don't think I would even have tried this without the encouragement of those on this board!

I'm SOOOOO happy to see that many of you are doing well - and enjoying the experience of turning your cast-offs to cash.. Great feeling, isn't it?

Although my enthusiasm remains, I have to admit I'm getting a little frustrated in two areas.. Well - make that three, actually..

#1 - The high cost of shipping! I hate having to charge so much and can definitely see where it would turn some buyers off - myself included.. I finally got my head out of the clouds though and signed up for the Paypal debit/credit card so I can use that at the post office to recover some of the fees I'm shelling out.

#2 - I am listing - and selling - and listing - and selling - and listing - and selling.......and it doesn't look like I've even made a TEENY, TINY dent in all the stuff I have to get rid of here!! Help!!

#3 - And this is my BIGGEE....... The current trend of buyers to wait until the last possible minute to start bidding... That is driving me nuts!!! Makes it hard for me to organize things here (as soon as something has a bid on it I move it from my "listed items" totes to my "sold" totes) and it makes it really difficult for me to plan my days.. Right now I have auctions ending today, tomorrow, Saturday, & Sunday - and I'm supposed to leave for the lake either tonight or tomorrow morning and I won't be back till Monday afternoon or evening.. I can "check" on the status of my auctions from up there, but I can't acutally DO anything about them..

As for the soccer shoes, in my area there is soccer summer camps, summer leagues, recreation program leagues... so I guess there was a market.


As for china, I found some Haviland dishes that the previous owner (or owners before that) had in the FAR FAR dark corner of the attic... my DH found this box, and lo an behold, Haviland dishes.

Granted it was only a set of four salad plates, but we just got prices off Ebay (completed auctions), looked on www.replacements.com, and formulated a price. We had the original box, packing material (it was never opened!), so it was easy for me. We just opened it once for inspection and then sent it out.

We made $30.00 off of salad plates we just found laying around.

Has anyone had any luck buying things at flea markets to sell on eBay? A local church is having a huge flea market this weekend and I am debating on whether or not I should drag my 3 month old out to it as it is being held in an unairconditioned gym.....

No, I haven't requested her contact info, and probably won't. I'm not going to call because I'm not going to spend the money on a phone call. I would have a better attitude about if she hand't already received FB for an auction she won that closed 15 mins. (literally) before mine did. So, I don't buy that she's not checking e-mails, or anything like that. I don't know. I just mainly wanted to vent. I have had 4 or 5 (can't remember without checking) NPB in the last few months. Back in '99 when I was selling on ebay all the time, I NEVER had a NPB, NEVER and I would have 20-30 software auctions a week up. Of course, most people didn't leave me feedback then either, but at least everybody pd. Plus, that was before PayPal charged for taking credit cards. So, I really don't understand the influx of NPB now. Has anybody else who's been selling regularly noticed a difference in # of NPBs now from a few years ago? Thanks.

Poohber25, I probably wouldn't spend money on a phonecall in your shoes, either, but maybe if the bidder knows you're requesting the info, it might spur her into action. I'd be annoyed by what you are seeing, too.

I may try that (requesting info, but not contacting) I hadn't thought of that. And BTW, I didn't mention earlier that she has also bid on and won several auctions since mine ended, too, so she can't tell me she's not around and didn't know she'd won, etc. etc.

This is a hint I got from a Superseller on eBay, and yes, I find stuff at estate sales and garage sales every week!

I do my research first, KNOW what sells and at what price, you'd be surprised how LOW you can get them at these sales.

For instance, I bought a box of a pair of unopened solar lawn lights this past weekend for $5. So far they're up to $22 on eBay and I still have until Sunday! I bought an educational kid's toy for $3 and sold it for $12 on eBay. Needless to say you can profit from these sales.

Estate sales have more collectible items that you may have to have some info on before buying. I go early in the day, ask them to hold them, do my research and return! Just tell them you're going to the ATM to get some cash! It works!!

It's my number one source of items now and yes, VERY profitable! One item usually pays for my whole purchase!
