Send an invoice or a reminder notice from My eBay as well as an email from

I thought that was the best way in the past..but the one I sent through eBay was also returned..but to my addy. It used to be that when you sent through eBay it actually went through eBay (which was good..because if it was returned, eBay considered it bad contact info and suspended). I wrote and asked them (eBay) how come it came back to me, and they said my return addy is what is used..so that was no help : (

Okay what do I say to this!!!

I just got an email from a buyer who used BIN and then asked for an invoice and I was excited because it was a $32 item.

Here is the email I received today:

"I dont wish to buy this product right now
It is a hydration pack. I apoligize but I clicked on buy it now to try to see how that worked. I was not ready to buy it, Now somehow I feel I got suckered into buying a few things that I was checking out"

What on earth was she thinking? What should I reply?

I would say,
"If you choose not to pay for the item you have purchased with "Buy It Now", I will allow you this learning experience and not attempt to hold you to the contractual obligations you agreed to when registering with ebay. However, please understand that in order to recover fees charged to me by ebay when you used "Buy it Now", I need to inform ebay that you are a "non-paying bidder", and ebay may choose to suspend your registration so you'll be unable to bid in future. That is not done as a retaliatory measure; it is that I must recover the fees that would be rightfully charged if you were to actually buy my item. Your use of the "Buy It Now" option automatically incurs those fees."

Or something like that.

Boy, why don't people read before clicking? That's lousy. Good luck with that one, mom2smjn!

I would go look at what she bid on besides your items..she may have found it cheaper since buying. If she clicked on it to see how Buy It Now works, she's not the smartest cookie in the pack, since she can "practice" at the new to sellign site of eBay.

I am SO EXCITED!!!:bounce:
After reading this board, I decided to give EBAY a shot and listed my Minolta 35 mm camera on Monday. As of this morning there was one bid of $1.00:( and I was so bummed.
Well, I just decided to check it and there are now 6 - count 'em, SIX! - bids on it, the last one for $30.00!!!!!
I have a reserve on it for $50 (I paid $225 for it new, and it is in perfect condition). When people bid, are they "told" that there is a reserve bid on it and how much that is?
Okay, so if I sell this, I will be asking all you guys what to do next!!!!
Thanks for all the great info on this thread!

Thanks for the great note...here is what I sent her, with much of the credit going to you...

Items sold on ebay are a legal binding contract. The Terms and Conditions on Ebay clearly state this fact numerous times. This is even stated on every auction page.

If you choose not to pay for the item you have purchased with "Buy It Now", I will allow you this learning experience and not attempt to hold you to the contractual obligations you agreed to when registering with ebay. However, please understand that in order to recover fees charged to me by ebay when you used "Buy it Now", I need to inform ebay that you are a "non-paying bidder", and ebay may choose to suspend your registration so you'll be unable to bid in future. Your use of the "Buy It Now" option automatically incurs those fees. So in effect I have had to pay MY money for your practice session.

You have a choice of purchasing the item and receiving positive feedback or not purchasing the item and having a non paying bidder notice. I am sorry if you feel "suckered" but you bid and agreed to all that that entailed.

Regards

Kelly

SOOOOOOOOOOOOO what do you think????

Nope they aren't told but they can ask you what it is via email. Lots of people don't like reserves, me included, but it does protect the seller from losing too much when the bids start low.

BTW, congratulations! Six bids on your first item is awesome! At that rate you may have some bidders fighting for it! :teeth:

You can also choose the choice of both parties agreed to end this auction. She wouldn't get the black mark and you would get your end of auction fees back (you still won't get yoru listing fees unless it resells). In my opinion, once you told her you were allowing the learning experience, you have already "forgiven" her, so it would be more along the lines of forgiveness to not give her the black mark. If you really felt she did this on purpose (or before finding it cheaper elsewhere), then I wouldn't have told her you allowed the learning error. Just my own opinion..I just feel it can't be both ways..a punishment and a forgiveness. I sort of feel that it is retaliatory if you file anything other than both parties agreed etc etc (but only because you told her you would allow it..otherwise I would not have responded to her, I would have filed NPB, she would have had the 10 days to decide, you could have gotten your fees back and then left neg feedback if you wanted to.
I'm not saying what she did was right, but after looking around and checking to see if she had rebid on another auction (to give me a hint if it really was an "accident" which I have trouble swallowing), I would have then decided which was my stand...to forgive, or to file/neg, etc.

I'm not sure if I'm looking at the correct auction, but if your winner has one feedback, she may also be the person who bid on another item very similar to yours 3 minutes later and a few bucks cheaper...so if so, it's plain buyers remorse. If it is her, you might want to write her and tell her you know this info and you are filing as if she is a NPB (which she is..and you have already decided to not file under "both parties agree etc). Go to search, and pop in her ID under bidders, click show all..and take a look. I may have the wrong auction, but I think it's her. With more info, if this is her..then she lied.

Congrats! Photography related equipment seems to be a good seller (at least for me). I listed my darkroom equipment this week (which I haven't used in 5 years) and I'm doing *really* well. :Pinkbounc :bounce:

Hope everyone has a green weekend!

So I just got done reading all of the posts up to yesterday afternoon, and read almost everything on Ebay, but there's still a couple of things I'm a little hesitant on. So if everyone wouldn't mind the same questions for the billiointh time:

1) When you register to sell, you need to give them a credit card and bank account, or can 5 bucks for that other ID thing. So they would bill my credit card once a month for all the fees. Should I use a credit card I normall use, or one that I never use? I'm thinking the latter, just in case someone hacks in.
2) I really only wanna accept checks for now, with maybe getting in on PayPal Later. Is this a big mistake?
3) I'm still totally clueless about what to charge for shipping. I took a look around at waht we'd be selling (basically cd's we haven't listened to in years, and some movies), but I couldn't really find one flat shipping rate, and I don't really wanna figure out shipping costs each time we sell something. I would rather do parcel post and drop the 13 cents for proof of delivery. Any ideas? I have already firgured out what it'll cost for all my materials, so its only the cost of shipping that's hanging me up.

Thanks for all the help.
~Chris

It's up to you, but I really think a lot of people don't want to bother going out and getting that stamp, making out a check and mailing it and then waiting for you to ship back. I like instant (almost) gratification...I want my item as soon as possible. I think Paypal fits that bill. I also think people inpulse buy..and so I like the full Paypal, with the ability to pay with charge. Just my own opinion.

A lot of people who buy CD's know they can ship media mail and prefer that to save money. Otherwise I would go with first class. Parcel post can take awhile..and so if it's going to take awhile anyway, I want to pay for media. Look at some of the big CD sellers..how are they handling the shipping?

Ok, about a month ago, I got and deposited a m/o from a Canadian buyer. Today I get a letter from my bank charging me a $5 fee. They're calling it a "processing fee of a Canadian drawn check". What's that about? Grrr... I've never had that happen before. I bank at Fleet if that matters. Is there a certain type of m/o that I should/shouldn't accept from International buyers? Or do I just need to have International folks pay via PayPal only?

Sorry - I didn't read thru all the replies to see if someone responded- didn't want to lose your thread. But YES! This is standard. I think our correspondent has actually raised the fee to our bank to $7.50 now. They are only passing along costs to you at $5. If the Canadian customer has access to a large bank, they will be able to purchase a Money Order that clears through an American bank. We have a large truck stop in our town and a lot of the checks from the Canadian companies are drawn on banks near the border - Niagra Falls - other towns in NY - where they can conveniently access them, but still be able to clear items to US customers. And No- US Funds is not the base for the processing fee - You always want to have the item in US funds or you will be charged exchange on the difference in the US and Canadian dollars - but the processing fee is based on the country in which the item is drawn.

I bet I have processed over 200 money orders from Canada and never run into a fee. I did ask at my bank a couple days after this was posted, and was told as long as it's marked US funds, there is no charge...if they have to convert, theire is. So now I wonder just what is the criteria? Have I just been lucky? You say it's based on the country on which the item is drawn? Most all of mine have been drawn on a Canadian bank (or post office..but I cash those at my Post Office at no charge). I would be very unhappy if my bank charged me, and would look around for another bank : (

Can you imagine if all the people who sell inexpensive items to Canada had to pay a $7.50 fee? None of us would be selling to Canada.

This can also be dependent on the size of the bank you are dealing with. We are a 150million bank with 6 branches, however, our cash letters all clear through a 'correspondent' bank (US Bank or Bankers Bank - not sure). These are the big players. They are providing a service to the other 'non-big' players so they consequently charge those banks a fee for providing that service.

Again, a lot of money orders are actually clearing on a US bank. One way to differentiate is to count the digits in the routing number on the bottom of a check. A US routing number is 9 digits. A canadian is either 7 or 8 digits (been too long since I ran proof!)

Regardless, if you deal with a big player, you as a customer may not be paying a fee if they are dealing directly with clearing to Canada themselves. Know what I mean?

The other problem if you are dealing with a smaller bank is that they just may not know........If the person balancing the correspondent statements does not deal with the front line or realize what the charge is for......you never know. It was actually a couple of months after our correspondent started charging us before it came to light!

And most Canadian banks do sell Money Orders & Travelers Cheques drawn off American banks - most Canadian customers just don't know they have to ask - they aren't going to offer them since 99.5% of them will just be used in Canada!

The other problem if you are dealing with a smaller bank is that they just may not know

Well it's certainly a small hometown bank (although they opened a branch in Orlando..nice of them! Part of their name until recently carried my hometown name, and you can't much smaller than that)..but they seem to know what to charge for and what not. I'm familiar with the routing numbers, and it just hasn't seemed to matter. I did ask again recently after this came up, and they seemed to be very sure that for them the only charge was if they had to convert. I know this comes up once in awhile on the Yahoo eBay board, when someone has mentioned a fee..but the advice is always to move on to a bank that doesn' t charge. It doesn't seem to be discussed much so I assume it's not much of a problem. I like to ship to Canada and the UK (although I have buyers who seem to think Australia and Honk Kong are in the UK LOL) since they seldom complain about shipping and they seem to listen when I give payment instructions. I haven't even had anyone ask me to lie on the customs forms lately!

Does anyone have any idea how much it costs to get neg. FB removed through SquareTrade and what the process is, etc. I don't have any yet, but I have a feeling I will get some next week when I leave it for my NPB, who STILL hasn't contacted me, even though she has stuff up for auction. Any info appreciated. Thanks.

i love ebay - and i try not to ask sellers to lie on customs forms. but it is disheartening when sellers say that they can't even accept Paypal from Canadian bidders.... i can understand some banks charging fees for Canadian money orders (even those in US dollars) but Paypal doesn't charge extra for us to pay y'all in US dollars! Sigh.

and when i *have* asked sellers to put "gift" on the customs forms, most have been okay with it. the reason we in Canada have to do this is because our Customs charges duties/tariffs on merchandise over $20 CAD, but if it's a gift, it can be up to $60 CAD. $20 CAD is about $13 US! it's not because we're trying to scam ebay/sellers, but just because it's already so hard to get stuff shipped to Canada, even though we are only one country away. i tried to order something from the Disney Store online and they wanted to charge me shipping of $33 US! All my items didn't even add up to that.

anyway just a little note from a northern neighbour :)

I currently have 24 items up for bid and I received 4 bids so far. I think that isn't too bad. I have many videos up for bid and I added that I would combine shipping if the winner bought more than one video. (I cheated by looking at other's listings). So, how do I do this? Does Ebay just end the auctions at the winning price and then I manually add the extra 1.00 per video? Does the winner know to add it or do I send an email confirmation invoice with the extra charge?

Thanks in advance,

Martha
