I ordered a box of the largest and one of the smallest size and I think shipping was under $3.00 total.

Huh, it did say US funds. I remember looking specifically at it because it was such an odd looking m/o. Course I have no way of proving that now. :( If it happens again, I'll photocopy before depositing. I guess I'll just ask for postal money orders from now on from international folks (or PayPal).

How does BidPay work?

Thanks everyone!

Gotta say this news doesn't make me very happy because I remember cashing a few of those myself in the past month - and none of the items were being shipped out of the United States..

Shouldn't the bank teller have informed me if there would be a processing fee?

Guess I'll just have to sit back and wait to see if I get a notice.. Or maybe I'll call my bank later today to see what their policy is..
:(

Then I don't understand why there should be a charge. I would talk to the bank and ask why. I sell a lot ot Cananda and have never had the problem..I wonder if some over zealous teller marked it wrong.

Lori,

It is certainly worth calling and finding out the policy. Also, as a former Fleet employee, I know that if you ASK NICELY, you could probably get the fee reversed this time!! :D :D

What do you guys think of the stamps.com deal...you get a free digital scale and $20 in free postage to sign up for their $15.95/month service. You have to keep the service for one month before canceling. I was thinking of signing up to get the free goodies, paying my one month, and cancelling. Any feedback on this??

I did that, and I LOVE it! I had my free supplies and scale within 3 business days of registering, and that $20 in free postage helped me have a little cushion as I get familiar with what to charge for postage if I use a flat rate. I've sold a few items where I undercharged for shipping and this helps me swallow that more easily.

I love having all my packages ready to just drop off at the PO on my way to work without spending 5 minutes having the postage calculated and then paying for it all. Plus, I have used my PayPal debit card as the CC on file for Stamps.com, so after I ran out of the free $20 worth, I now get cash back on my postage purchase, and I'll get the cash-back wen they charge me the monthly fee. Though I signed up intending to cancel after the requisite month, I may just keep it for the convenience factor, depending on how well my future auctions go, as well.

There is also a referral program in which you receive more free postage if anyone you refer signs up. Unfortunately I didn't know a friend of mine was registered, and didn't give him the credit. If anyone out there reading this signs up with no referral, feel free to use this: "Use promo code C-4YHG-DB2 during registration." Of course, if you are referred by someone else, you should certainly ask that person for their own referral code.

I have found that there are a few areas that I need to research, like including the payment for insurance in the total - I haven't figured out how to do that, so I have been paying separately at the P.O. for that - since you need the postal clerk to stamp your insurance receipt, it could be that this is intentional.

Overall, Stamps.com is great, IMO.

Two questions.........

Anyone else not getting email notifications from the DIS board today?
---------------

And - anyone else having a problem getting into baconbuttie? Since late yesterday all I get is that fool "reload" page.. :(

Good morning everyone,

Well I did it...YA!! I listed 17 items last night. Took me till 1:30am but it's done. Thanks for all of your advice. The majority of listings are various Disney movies. When I went to do a search for Disney video this morning, I could not find my listings but when I search the individual title video, it comes up. What did I do wrong? Also, for media mail, how do you package the videos in a bubble mailer?

Thanks as always,

Martha

Good for you!

With the search, it depends on how you set up the title. i.e. if you titled the listing "Disney video The Lion King VHS", this would come up if someone searched on:
Disney
video
The Lion King
VHS
or combinations of the above words.

If your listing title is "The Lion King - VHS video tape", it will not get a hit on a search for Disney, if you are searching only titles.

HTH & good luck with your listings!

Mrs. Snowgod,

Thanks for the quick response. I did all the titles starting with Disney Video Mulan Masterpieces, for example. Is it case sensitive? I did my search in small case letters.

Martha

I tried typing in Disney with a capital D and it worked.

Whew...I was nervous that no one would see my listings. No bids so far but I will try not to be too crazy about it.

Martha

Anyone have an answer to the Media Mail packaging ?

Pretty sure it's not. Though, it is singular/plural sensitive (there must be a shorter term for that!;) ) - so if you list "Disney Video Mulan Masterpieces", then search on "Disney videos", your hits will only include those titled with "videos" plural. That's why so often you see pins listed as "Disney Pin/pins". Could that be relevant? If not, maybe others will have some ideas. I'm certainly no expert, just learning as I go :p - it is fun, though!

I have done so much searching, etc just to get used to all this so I may have typed it as a plural. Thanks for your help.

Martha

I sold a ton of videos when I first started. I wrapped each one in an additional sheet of bubble wrap, popped in it the bubble mailer, and off it went.. I received VERY good feedback about my packaging and the videos arrived safe and sound!! ;)

Oh - and if you have a problem getting it into the mailer, turn the bubble wrap (the extra sheet) so that the SMOOTH side is out and it will slide right in..

Also - be patient on the bids.. More and more it seems that people aren't bidding AT ALL until the last day or last hours..

What a great idea about turning the bubble wrap around. I wouldn't have even thought of that...What size bubble mailer do you use? I have 11-1/2 x 8-1/8 side loading mailers from Quill and the video fits in there very snuggly. I didn't add an extra piece of bubble wrap yet. Is that size too small? Also, can I put a DC on this type of mailer?

Sorry for sooooo many questions.

I think that size will be fine.. And yes - you can get DC on that - and don't forget to ship them at the lower Media Mail rate! Every penny you save is another penny for Disney!!;)

Side-Loading Bubble Mailers; 14-1/2Wx12-1/8"L

Anyone know if these are large enough to hold 3 average sized paperback books. I've looked around at the envelopes I have and none are quite this large.

Thanks

LOL! I'm a teacher too with the same thought!!! I just listed my first item yesterday, a 35 mm Minolta camera, but I think I made a mistake - I started the bidding at $1! I do have it so that my reserve bid is $50. We'll see.
It seems like a lot of work, the more I read on these boards!

smvdelv,

I've found that a really low starting bid is a very effective way to go, as long as you can stomach the risk of selling the item for that little. Of course, the reserve will protect you, but that sometimes turns people off.

Good luck, and please do report back and let us know how it ends up!

and don't know what the heck I'm doing! LOL!
I just looked and I have a few DVD's and Videos that I would love to sell. So, how does this work? I already registered for Pay Pal, but I'm not sure I'm clear on how that works, either!!!
Can someone walk me thru the steps of selling something little like video or DVD? How much for s/h? What happens when/if the bidding is over? Does someone email me???
Getting more confused, the more I read!!!!!
