You Best Start Believing in Ghost Stories...Halloween on the Dream | The End P40 8/15

Sounds like y'all were having fun meeting all the characters!
Yes! I love characters! (Ok, the kids do too, but I'm the one writing the TR)

Those Mickey ears with the captains hat are too cute!
::yes::
And the party looks like fun - we'll have to check that out in May.
Yes you should. But bring tissues, just in case.

But, poor Evan! I know that had to break your heart because it broke mine for him. :sad2: It is so hard for fun times to come to an end. Glad y'all had more fun to look forward to!
He's a pretty emotional little guy. I still remember him crying on the plane when we left Houston last April (TR link is in my signature). I almost spilled the beans and told him we were going to WDW instead of home.
And according to the best nanny in the world, Mary Poppins, sugar makes everything better! :thumbsup2
I have a feeling we ate a little more than a spoonful ...

Well, now you've gone and done it...you got me all teary-eyed telling us that Evan was shedding tears because he didn't want to leave the ship.:sad::sad:
Sorry Kathy!
What great pictures with the characters, you too, Barry. I love the one of Madison kissing Donald and Evan being hugged by Dale especially.
Those kids really like to ham it up, don't they?
Nothing like some sugar to dry away the tears.
:thumbsup2
Can't wait to hear about the last dinner/night on the ship. And what I'm even more excited about???? Seeing you and your beautiful family in three days (not counting today). :goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes
We can't wait either! :cool1: See you Saturday!

But Donald isn't a strange duck. It isn't like this is the first time she's ever met him.:rotfl2:
Maybe strange wasn't the right word. He's an angry duck, which it just as bad.

Disney would never do something like that.:rolleyes1
Yeah, and it's a coincidence that you exit all the rides right into gift shops.

But at least your hat isn't up there.:rotfl2:
2 hats I can handle. 3 is just crazy.
Looks like a fun, yet bittersweet show.
Very. On both.
Poor guy. I can't blame him. I think it is safe to say that despite all the on again off again concerns about the height requirement on the Aqua Duck, it was definitely a good decision for you to go on the cruise.
You got that right. It was awesome. :thumbsup2
The cure for just about anything! :thumbsup2
At least until he's old enough to drink. :lmao:

Wow, you're good. That's exactly what I was thinking.
Must be all the cheese fumes.

Ohhhh. Thanks for clearing that up. :thumbsup2
Public Service Announcements: Just another made up service from a FreezinRafiki trip report.

Jack Sparrow!
:thumbsup2

We got Scotty a pin like Evan's t-shirt. It fits them, doesn't it?
Certainly does. So does a shirt that says "Bat S**t Crazy", but Bambi vetoed that one.

So I guess Evan's head is as big as yours? :confused3
No, the cap is adjustable. You've seen my ego. My head is waaaaaay bigger than that.

She likes making other people happy.
::yes::

That sounds like a cynical, corporate bean-counter type attitude. Disney doesn't employ people like that, do they? :confused3
And from the sounds of it, they don't employee Civil Engineers either. :sad1:

Kinda goes with the shirt.
Oh, nice throwback. :thumbsup2

Poor guy. I think we all know that feeling too well.
Kind of like that sad, slow march out of your last park at the end of a WDW vacation. Crap, now I'm sad again.

+1 for Rob's cruise tips!

:thumbsup2+1:thumbsup2 for Rob's cruise tips!

We left off on the last update with a picture of Evan in a porthole, so I guess we could lead off this one with a similar picture. A nice smooth transition, if you will. I think I missed my calling as a Hollywood director.

IMG_0174.JPG

As you can see, Evan is back in "his" porthole. (It's "his" when he doesn't have to share it with Madison. Or me.) You'll also notice that he's shirtless. He was getting changed for dinner, but it's so hard to stay on task when there is a window seat and a wide open ocean to have to look at. And a ship. That boy loves his ships.

But speaking of dinner - this night was designated as "semi-formal" dinner night on our cruise. (For some reason, they didn't consider my Barry-Wan Kenobi outfit semi-formal. Even when I tried using the Force.) So we all got dressed up in our best semi-formal attire.

IMG_0177.JPG

(Based on the "up the nose" angle that the picture was taken at, one could reasonably believe that either Madison or Evan took it. Or an Ewok.)

Being the last night of our cruise, we let the kids bring a toy that they bought in the ship's store to dinner. What were they going to do? Kick us off? Here Madison is giving Toy Story 3 Barbie a ride. (And yes, there are subtle difference between Toy Story 3 Barbie and her regular Barbies. I just don't know what they are.)

IMG_0179.JPG

Tonight's dining room is the same as last night's - the Royal Palace, and it's impressive inlaid marble floor decor.

IMG_0180.JPG

As has become custom, Madison found Denis in the line of servers waiting to show us to our table, took his hand, and led us all to the table. But this time, I was ready with the camera.

IMG_0182.JPG

A few more shots around the dining room:

100_2353.JPG

Last night was pirate's night, so there was a special menu. For tonight, it's back to the regular old standard Royal Palace menu. Which is still about 348% better than just about any restaurant that I've ever eaten at. I just wanted to make sure you didn't think I was complaining or something.

And as good as the "Pan Seared Tofu" sounded :crazy2:, I went with the Roasted Wild Boar Tenderloin. Because where else can you get Wild Boar? Applebee's? I don't think so. (It was great, by the way. Thanks for asking.)

After dinner - surprise, surprise - we found another photographer.

3965800.jpg

And yes, the kids are wearing their "semi-formal" flip flops. (Their regular dinner flip flops have odd stains on them and a bit of an odor. Their "formal" flip flops are solid platinum with gold leaf and diamonds.)

As for the rest of the night - remember when I said we took in the matinee of Believe because we had other plans for the night? Yeah, that's now in our story. We just hung out. The kids wanted an hour or so in the kids's club...

IMG_9996.JPG

...we wandered around a bit more, just checking out the decor...

IMG_9994.JPG

...we sat on some deck chairs and listened in the darkness to the ocean lapping against the hull of the ship.

And then we got our swim suits on and rode the AquaDuck until we almost froze to death. It got chilly that night and the formerly warm, gentle sea breeze picked up a few knots and hit you square on as you got out of your tube at the bottom of the slide. Luckily, Disney placed a towel rack just a few feet away so you could quickly dry off, then head back to the line to go again.

Riding the AquaDuck at night is an awesome experience. Each support ring is lined with different colored and ever-changing lights, so as you rush through the enclosed tube it's like you're flying through a rainbow on an LSD trip. (The rainbow is tripping, not me. I think. Why are the walls melting?) Then you hit an open section and the cool air hits you and cools you just enough to give you a quick adrenaline rush before you shoot into another enclosed section and warm back up.

Even with a short line, it was getting a bit chilly running (not running - that's dangerous on a wet deck - but quickly walking) to the line again. So we all settled into the right ear of Mickey's pool and watched Muppet Treasure Island on the Funnel Vision screen well into the night.

Eventually the movie ended and the cool sea breeze go to us enough that we had to reluctantly call it a night. We gathered up our stuff, headed down to deck 2 and found this cute little ray in our room:

IMG_0186.JPG

One more night on the wonderfully comfy Disney Dream bed, and we'd be getting off the ship right after breakfast.

Coming Up: Don't Go Anywhere! I've got more fun stuff, including a more time at Disney World!

Sounds like a nice last night on the ship! :thumbsup2 Love the picture of the kids in front of the staircase. Very cute!

I love watching movies at night on the Funnel Vision! So fun!

Shhhh but you can race walk... As long as one foot is in contact with the ground it IS walking. Don't tell.

I have been known to trot a bit and be called down by MY OWN GUARDS. :rotfl2:

Barry, it sounds like a perfect last night. The kids look great all dressed up (Madison's smile just makes her glow).

I love Evan sitting in his porthole.

This is an adorable picture and the semi-formal flip flops really make the outfit. ;)

Can't believe its your last night already. What a wonderful cruise you have had!

We left off on the last update with a picture of Evan in a porthole, so I guess we could lead off this one with a similar picture. A nice smooth transition, if you will. I think I missed my calling as a Hollywood director.

It's a little old-fashioned. Today's Hollywood directors would include 15 shots of Evan at different angles that all rush by in 3 seconds.

(Based on the "up the nose" angle that the picture was taken at, one could reasonably believe that either Madison or Evan took it. Or an Ewok.)

I'll go with the Ewok. It's a better story.

Here Madison is giving Toy Story 3 Barbie a ride.
IMG_0179.JPG

Are you sure? Looks like Barbie was waiting for Madison in ambush just outside the door.

As has become custom, Madison found Denis in the line of servers waiting to show us to our table, took his hand, and led us all to the table. But this time, I was ready with the camera.

At this point, if you look up the word "cute" in the dictionary, it has a picture of Madison.

And as good as the "Pan Seared Tofu" sounded :crazy2:, I went with the Roasted Wild Boar Tenderloin. Because where else can you get Wild Boar?

Not on a boat, anyway. I'm sure they're all over Wisconsin.

After dinner - surprise, surprise - we found another photographer.

3965800.jpg

Did you frame this one? Great shot of the kids. :thumbsup2

...we sat on some deck chairs and listened in the darkness to the ocean lapping against the hull of the ship.

That's an interesting feeling, isn't it? I always found the ship at night to be a little eerie, alone on the water.

Riding the AquaDuck at night is an awesome experience. Each support ring is lined with different colored and ever-changing lights, so as you rush through the enclosed tube it's like you're flying through a rainbow on an LSD trip.

How would you know, exactly? :confused3

The ride does sound cool, though. :thumbsup2

One more night on the wonderfully comfy Disney Dream bed, and we'd be getting off the ship right after breakfast.

:sad1::sad1:

Even when I tried using the Force.
Then your force sucks. :lmao:

(And yes, there are subtle difference between Toy Story 3 Barbie and her regular Barbies. I just don't know what they are.)
I think we can safely assume it is a number on the price tag. :thumbsup2

Nice picture.

Good choice. (I wouldn't eat tofu and I grow soybeans) :lmao::rotfl2:

Picture or it didn't happen.

Yeah, that's now in our story. We just hung out. The kids wanted an hour or so in the kids's club...
Actually, that looks like the perfect way to spend the last evening. The shows are great, but I'd rather spend a few hours to enjoy the boat rather than sit in a theater.

BOOOOOO!!!!

I've got more fun stuff, including a more time at Disney World!
Well, I guess if you've got to get off the boat, there are worse places you could go.

The Last Night on the Ship

Them's the second sadist words I've ever heard about Cruising DCL

I think I missed my calling as a Hollywood director.

I don't know... such greats as :
Plan 9 from outer Space
Santa Claus Conquers the Martians
Howard the Duck
Leonard Part 6
From Justin to Kelly
Gigli
and
The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies!!?

Have already been done.
I believe that Hollywood is doing just fine without you

He was getting changed for dinner, but it's so hard to stay on task when there is a window seat and a wide open ocean to have to look at.

Yah, that's tough.

And a ship.

And that makes it impossible.

For some reason, they didn't consider my Barry-Wan Kenobi outfit semi-formal.

Hummmm... I'd have thought they'd have seen it as an improvement over your normal appearance. But then again, clothes don't make the man. It was still you.

...Even when I tried using the Force.)

No week minded fools, they.

(Based on the "up the nose" angle that the picture was taken at, one could reasonably believe that either Madison or Evan took it. Or an Ewok.)

Or an R2 unit.

As has become custom, Madison found Denis in the line of servers waiting to show us to our table, took his hand, and led us all to the table. But this time, I was ready with the camera.

Not bad for a Padawan.

For tonight, it's back to the regular old standard Royal Palace menu. Which is still about 348% better than just about any restaurant that I've ever eaten at.

I'd say 349% but you're close.

I just wanted to make sure you didn't think I was complaining or something.

oh, nooooooo... the thought never occurred.

Because where else can you get Wild Boar? Applebee's?

I'm not certain you can even get food at Applebee's

That might be the picture of the trip right there.

And yes, the kids are wearing their "semi-formal" flip flops.

It's a cruise... those are full-on, pinkies-out, high-falutin' flip flops

And then we got our swim suits on and rode the AquaDuck until we almost froze to death.

Can a Sconnie actually freeze?

Riding the AquaDuck at night is an awesome experience. Each support ring is lined with different colored and ever-changing lights, so as you rush through the enclosed tube it's like you're flying through a rainbow on an LSD trip.

"I hope you're not busy for about a month."

We gathered up our stuff, headed down to deck 2

Don't Go Anywhere! I've got more fun stuff, including a more time at Disney World!

:woohoo:

Aws poor Evan. I don't think I'd want to leave the ship either!

Sounds like a nice last night on the ship! :thumbsup2 Love the picture of the kids in front of the staircase. Very cute!
Thanks! It was sad that it was ending, but we made the most of it.
I love watching movies at night on the Funnel Vision! So fun!
Call me crazy, but I'd rather watch a 20 year old movie while sitting in a pool on the deck of cruise ship than a new release in the theater.

36_17_9.gif
Shhhh but you can race walk... As long as one foot is in contact with the ground it IS walking. Don't tell.
Oooo.....I love technicalities!
I have been known to trot a bit and be called down by MY OWN GUARDS. :rotfl2:
I know you mean lifeguards at the pool, but I'm going to imagine that you mean Palace Guards like they have over in London with the big fuzzy hats. Just because it sounds cooler. :thumbsup2

Barry, it sounds like a perfect last night. The kids look great all dressed up (Madison's smile just makes her glow).
They do clean up nice, don't they?
I love Evan sitting in his porthole.
And he loved sitting there!

This is an adorable picture and the semi-formal flip flops really make the outfit. ;)
Thanks! I really didn't see any point in packing "nice" shoes for one dinner.
Can't believe its your last night already. What a wonderful cruise you have had!
Soooo much fun!

It's a little old-fashioned. Today's Hollywood directors would include 15 shots of Evan at different angles that all rush by in 3 seconds.
Not enough explosions, either.

I'll go with the Ewok. It's a better story.
Hard to not be a better story than those prequels. :sad2:

Are you sure? Looks like Barbie was waiting for Madison in ambush just outside the door.
No that you mention it, it does look like Barbie is going for the jugular.

At this point, if you look up the word "cute" in the dictionary, it has a picture of Madison.
Do you thing we can get royalty payments from Websters?

Not on a boat, anyway. I'm sure they're all over Wisconsin.
I've helped capture runaway pigs before. That was pretty wild.

Did you frame this one? Great shot of the kids. :thumbsup2
Perhaps. :cool2:

That's an interesting feeling, isn't it? I always found the ship at night to be a little eerie, alone on the water.
Very interesting. Looking out and seeing....nothing. Unless it's a scheduled fireworks night, that it. Then you're never alone.

How would you know, exactly? :confused3
Ummm...I've heard?
The ride does sound cool, though. :thumbsup2
::yes::, ::yes:: it does.

Then your force sucks. :lmao:
No, it was just going up against very dark magic.
I think we can safely assume it is a number on the price tag. :thumbsup2
Yes, but since we were in international waters, we didn't have to pay tax. :thumbsup2
Nice picture.
Thanks!
Good choice. (I wouldn't eat tofu and I grow soybeans) :lmao::rotfl2:
It really wasn't that hard to pick. :rotfl2:
Picture or it didn't happen.
I've tried, but they're so shiny that every picture comes out overexposed. They're impossible to photograph!

Actually, that looks like the perfect way to spend the last evening. The shows are great, but I'd rather spend a few hours to enjoy the boat rather than sit in a theater.
:thumbsup2

:thumbsup2 Ok, that just looks like all kinds of fun!
Oh man, it sure was.
BOOOOOO!!!!
No, Halloween was a few days before.
Well, I guess if you've got to get off the boat, there are worse places you could go.
Indiana?

Them's the second sadist words I've ever heard about Cruising DCL
I assume the first saddest is "enjoy your breakfast, then get out!"

I don't know... such greats as :
Plan 9 from outer Space
Santa Claus Conquers the Martians
Howard the Duck
Leonard Part 6
From Justin to Kelly
Gigli
and
The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies!!?

Have already been done.
I believe that Hollywood is doing just fine without you
I hope you're not admitting to watching some of those, are you?

Yah, that's tough.

And that makes it impossible.
I may have been a bit distracted myself.

Hummmm... I'd have thought they'd have seen it as an improvement over your normal appearance. But then again, clothes don't make the man. It was still you.
You know, that's a odd expression "the clothes don't make the man". Because in my experience, it's usually "the management insists that the man wear clothes." :confused3

No week minded fools, they.
The found my weakness - food. Well, and shiny things. But they were using food here.

Or an R2 unit.
Doubt it. If it were an R2, we'd be appearing as a hologram, wouldn't we?

I'd say 349% but you're close.
I had to dock them for having tofu on the menu.

oh, nooooooo... the thought never occurred.
Huh. Sometimes sarcasm does come though on the internet.

I'm not certain you can even get food at Applebee's
Last time I ate there I had a turkey and fried green tomato sandwich. You have have fried green tomatoes all over your neck of the woods, but they're hard to come by up here. And it was good. :thumbsup2

That might be the picture of the trip right there.
::yes::

It's a cruise... those are full-on, pinkies-out, high-falutin' flip flops
My thought exactly!

Can a Sconnie actually freeze?
Even we can't violate the laws of nature. 0° Kelvin, just like everything else. :thumbsup2

"I hope you're not busy for about a month."
I could spend about a month on the ship if I had to (and someone else paid.) But if I see the captain open his stateroom door to a billowing cloud of smoke, I might get a bit nervous.

Aws poor Evan. I don't think I'd want to leave the ship either!
It was not fun leaving, that's for sure!

I awoke to some thumping and thunking on debarkation day. (Deparkation is fancy cruise line speak for "you spent your money, now get off so someone else can spend their money"). I don't recall exactly what time I woke up, but it had to be a bit before o'dark thirty. I laid in bed and didn't feel any ocean movements, so doubt was immediately cast on my dreams of the captain deciding to head back out to sea for a few more days. I quietly crawled out of bed and took a peek out of the porthole. The bright, vibrant theater of the port that I remembered from 4 days ago was replaced by a dark, ominous scene of port workers, illuminated in the orange glow of sodium vapor lights, hauling rack upon rack of luggage off of my beloved Disney Dream and into the terminal.

Since we were on the early dining rotation, we had to be back at the Royal Palace for breakfast by 6:45am. We still had plenty of time, so I quietly dressed and sat in the porthole, watching the porters driving forklifts hauling train after train of luggage.

I'd like to say that eventually everyone woke up on their own, but I'm quite sure we had to russel, shake, yell and possibly douse with water, the children to get them up and moving at that ungodly hour. Our bags had been picked up the night before. (tip: make sure you leave out clothes to wear the next day. Otherwise you eat breakfast and get off the ship in your jammies. Even if they are the cool one piece footy PJs with the flap in the back, you're going to get some strange looks.) We gathered up our few carry on (carry off?) bags, did a last sweep of the room to make sure that
a.) We didn't leave anything that belonged to us behind
and
b.) We didn't leave anything that belonged to DCL and wasn't nailed down behind.

Stumbling into Royal Palace, we ordered breakfast off of the menu and a still cheerful Denis happily brought us everything we ordered. Of course he was still cheerful, he got to stay on the ship. We chatted a bit about his homeland of Croatia and how he and his wife were expecting a child soon. He had another month or so on his DCL contract then was taking all of the money he earned back home. I doubt this was a technique to eek out a bigger tip, because we settled all the tips with guest services the night before. But I am glad I gave him more than the suggested amount. :thumbsup2

Disney certainly never pushed us out, but they did let us know several times that we were expected to get off as soon as we were done with breakfast. We did make a quick stop up a Shutters (the photo dealer) to pick up the pictures we bought from them and then quietly said good bye to the Donald statue in the atrium.

Getting off the ship is pretty easy - they organize all of the luggage into sections in the terminal and there are porters there ready and willing to assist you in finding it, loading it on their little cart, and getting you through customs. Our porter brought our luggage all the way to the curb where we were to meet our shuttle back to the Country Inn.

Let me play the next few hours in fast forward. I didn't take any pictures and nothing of real consequence happened. We went back to the hotel, loaded up the roof rack and back of the Explorer, took a quick potty break and were on the road, headed South. Yes, south. Disney World is West, but were were headed south to Disney's Vero Beach Resort. No, it's not a convenient cruise hotel - it's a good 2 hour drive - but it is one of the DVC properties that we haven't stayed at yet, so we decided that one night post-cruise would be fun. A brief supply stop at a grocery store and we pulled into the resort around 10:00 am or so.

The ladies at the front desk couldn't have been nicer. They seemed genuinely excited to see us and have us stay with them, then seemed disappointed that we were only staying one night. After plugging their onsite restaurant, they also gave some excellent advice on local dining establishments and were to eat.

We got our room key to a wonderful 2 bedroom villa and immediately found...towel animals!

IMG_0188.JPG

I don't know why, but both the elephant and the turtle seem to have shifty eyes. I didn't trust either of them.

After a spaghetti lunch in the room, we all donned swim suits and headed for the pool! Because after 4 days of seeing nothing but water, we wanted to see some more.

DSCF0349.JPG

DSCF0350.JPG

The kids had some Cars-themed pool toys that would sink to the bottom for you to dive in after. The problem was that Evan was just too buoyant to sink down after them. He needed a bit of help.

DSCF0358.JPG

DSCF0360.JPG

Vero has a very nice recreation area including the pool, water slide, mini golf (we played. The kids cheated. But so did I), and, again, after spending 4 days on a boat the kids wanted more time on a boat.

DSCF0363.JPG

DSCF0366.JPG

Vero also has some pool games in the afternoon for the kids to participate in. I really hope Madison pulled that tongue in before she licked the limbo pole.

100_2453.JPG

It was getting close to 2pm, and Bambi and I had some disappearing to do. I had looked into booking her a massage on the ship, but by the time we as first time cruisers got into our booking window, the only times left were during either dinner or the shows. I then checked the adult cabanas on Castaway Cay. Holy guacamole, Batman! $$$$! So I did a little more research and found the Spa at Vero Beach offered a couples massage for roughly half the cost of a single massage on the cruise. I'd never done one before and we thought it would be fun few hours away together. So we left Madison and Evan in the care of their grandparents (neither Bambi nor her brother grew up to have any severe problems, so we figured the kids would be safe for a few hours) and headed to the spa.

We checked in and were led to a double room. They told us to undress and get down on the individual beds and under the sheet. It was then that I thought "hmmm...I wonder if I put on clean underwear this morning?" Oh well, too late to worry about that now.

Bambi got a maternity massage and I got...some kind of rubdown. I don't really know. I know it was better than a police pat down and I felt pretty relaxed after wards, so it must have been worth the money.

Meanwhile, the kids were hanging out with grandma and grandpa.

DSCF0393.JPG

I don't have any photographic proof, but I think that one of Madison is right before she did one of those judo flips to grandma and she ended up flat on her back in the ocean.

Well, she looks pretty dry here so maybe not.

100_2457.JPG

We met up again and all drove down into Vero Beach for dinner. One of the ladies at the front desk suggest Mulligan's - a restaurant right on the beach. It was at the end of a small strip mall and had some nice open air seating just a few feet off the sand. We went for a quick walk on the beach, checked out a few local artists, and listened to some live music while waiting for our table. The food was good, but the sea breeze and the atmosphere really made the dinner.

IMG00124-20111103-1850.jpg

After dinner it was back to the resort for a good night's sleep. For the kids anyway. I grabbed the camera and wandered the resort for a little bit.

IMG_0199.JPG

IMG_0200.JPG

You're probably wondering (but were to afraid to ask) why the resort lights are so very orange. Well, good question. It's because of the Sea Turtles.

COMING UP NE...

What? You're not satisfied with that answer? OK, I'll go into more detail. Sea Turtles come to Vero Beach every year to lay their eggs. Then momma turtle returns to ocean and swims away. When the little turtlelets hatch, they follow the light of the moon to the water. If the lights of the resort were a bright white, the poor little fellas would get confused an follow those lights right into a bush or fence. But they don't pay any attention to the orange lights and can find their way to the ocean just fine. So, with that further explained,

COMING UP NEXT: Sunrise over the Atlantic and Stuffing our Pie Holes at EPCOT.

BOO! for having to get off the ship!

But YAY! for going to Vero Beach!

The resort looks really nice. I've looked into it once or twice for a possible vacation but wasn't sure. I think we may need to try it out one day.

That's great that y'all were able to escape for a little bit & get massages.

And I love the info on the sea turtles! At first, I was like, "HUH? WHAT?" Thank you for coming back with further details! :rotfl:

Can't wait to hear about stuffing your piehole at EPCOT! Those kinds of updates are always good!

What a great report this has been so far. :thumbsup2 Just wanted to comment that I love to go to Mulligan's whenever we are in that area. Which we will be in a little over two weeks! We have friends that live about 5-10 minutes away from Vero Beach and are going to visit them. But just sitting out back at Mulligan's in those big chairs with a refreshing beverage watching the ocean, ahhhhhhhhh, I don't think it gets much better.

And, all the pictures of your kids are just adorable. That Madison has such an infectious smile. You will have the beat the boys off with a stick when she gets older. ;) And Evan is sure growing up. Love that picture of the two of them on the ship with their semi-formal flip-flops on! He looks like such a little gentleman.

Keep up the great posts and I can't wait to finish reading all about your trip!

I awoke to some thumping and thunking on debarkation day.

Deck-2… you were fairly close to the action that morning.

(Deparkation is fancy cruise line speak for "you spent your money, now get off so someone else can spend their money").

It’s better then being marooned…
But not by much.

Since we were on the early dining rotation, we had to be back at the Royal Palace for breakfast by 6:45am.

:faint: The price of the early seating.

We did make a quick stop up a Shutters (the photo dealer)

“Dealer” is a good word for it.

Disney World is West, but were were headed south to Disney's Vero Beach Resort.

Bonus!

The ladies at the front desk couldn't have been nicer. They seemed genuinely excited to see us and have us stay with them,

Well… to see everyone else in your party at least.

then seemed disappointed that we were only staying one night.

Well… for everyone else in your party at least.

Because after 4 days of seeing nothing but water, we wanted to see some more.

::yes:: Goes without sayin’

We went for a quick walk on the beach, checked out a few local artists, and listened to some live music while waiting for our table. The food was good, but the sea breeze and the atmosphere really made the dinner.

Sound’s like an excellent time was had by all. A good first day back on land and not very different from the time spent on the Dream (of course this resort wasn’t moving across the water, but still…)

You're probably wondering (but were to afraid to ask) why the resort lights are so very orange. Well, good question. It's because of the Sea Turtles.

That makes sense.
You wouldn’t want to interfere with their nesting habits.

What? You're not satisfied with that answer?

No… I’m good.

OK, I'll go into more detail.

It’s not necessa…
Oh wait, you weren’t talking to me.

Carry on.

Nicely said professor

COMING UP NEXT: Sunrise over the Atlantic and Stuffing our Pie Holes at EPCOT.

The bright, vibrant theater of the port that I remembered from 4 days ago was replaced by a dark, ominous scene of port workers, illuminated in the orange glow of sodium vapor lights, hauling rack upon rack of luggage off of my beloved Disney Dream and into the terminal.

Amazing what Disney can do just with lighting.

I'd like to say that eventually everyone woke up on their own, but I'm quite sure we had to russel, shake, yell and possibly douse with water, the children to get them up and moving at that ungodly hour.

No air horns? I'm disappointed.

(tip: make sure you leave out clothes to wear the next day. Otherwise you eat breakfast and get off the ship in your jammies. Even if they are the cool one piece footy PJs with the flap in the back, you're going to get some strange looks.)

Look, I can't sleep when my feet are cold. I've explained this many times.

b.) We didn't leave anything that belonged to DCL and wasn't nailed down behind.

:thumbsup2

Let me play the next few hours in fast forward.

Let me explain. No, there is too much. Let me sum up.

I don't know why, but both the elephant and the turtle seem to have shifty eyes. I didn't trust either of them.

They look like the kind of folks that would steal DCL merchandise.

After a spaghetti lunch in the room, we all donned swim suits and headed for the pool! Because after 4 days of seeing nothing but water, we wanted to see some more.

Vero has a very nice recreation area including the pool, water slide, mini golf (we played. The kids cheated. But so did I), and, again, after spending 4 days on a boat the kids wanted more time on a boat.

It did seem like that cruise went by awfully fast.

It was then that I thought "hmmm...I wonder if I put on clean underwear this morning?" Oh well, too late to worry about that now.

If you have to ask, we don't want to know the answer.

I don't have any photographic proof, but I think that one of Madison is right before she did one of those judo flips to grandma and she ended up flat on her back in the ocean.

Now that's really interesting. Thanks for the quick nature lesson! Did anyone try to rope the turtles together to make a raft?

So what's the verdict on Vero Beach? Worth the stay? We had thought about trying it out just because it's a Disney property, and it looks like a nice place.
