you been

Pittsburgh born and bred. We used to have City Chicken all the time. My grandfather claimed to have chipped a tooth on city chicken. I never could tell if he was pulling my leg or not.

Me too and although my mom never made City Chicken, my mother-in-law made it a lot. I still find it confusing—when Low Key mentioned it I was trying to remember if it was actually pork or beef! MIL served it with what I think was another local delicacy—breaded noodles.

City chicken! Yummy! Haven't had it since I was a kid. Parents were born and raised in da Burgh but I was only born there. Moved out of the city area at 8. Still had city chicken often.

Now I have to stop and get some pork after work.

And what's the perfect dessert to serve after a dinner of chicken made out of pork? Why an apple pie made out of Ritz crackers, of course. :rotfl2:

What a deprived childhood I had having to eat actual food that wasn't "mock" anything. :sad1:
Ok wow, that's the second oddest thing I've learned this week. Though I once heard there are cakes made with mayonnaise, supposedly good too.

PS, some people enjoy things like Rocky Mountain Oysters, which are not oysters. See also Lamb Fries. :scared:

I had Mock Apple Pie when I was a kid. It was pretty good.
Mayonnaise cake is really good. It just adds moisture. From way back in my youngin' days.

Never heard of City Chicken. Odd name for something without chicken.
But then I am make Greek Chicken tonight and nothing Greek about it other than a little Feta in the dressing

Mayonnaise is mainly eggs and oil, stuff you'd use in a cake anyway. You don't taste a mayo flavor.

Bleh, rocky mountain oysters makes me think of Andrew Zimmern, the guy on the Food Network who will eat anything, but usually stuff like that and other "parts" 🤮

If I were feeding only myself, I'd be happy with a package of Knorr Teriyaki Noodles, maybe add some orange sauce. I could make do with cereal for dinner too. But as I do feed a few adults and my GS in this home, I go "all out" sometimes. LOL! tonight its homemade pizza!

because when it was invented chicken was pricey in the great lakes area, at least in the cities (turn of the century) , so they would put pork n a stick, do it up anyway you want, and the people in the city had there own chicken, (pork, you knew the term, it taste like chicken) but its a tradition that holds strong today, I actually thought everyone ate it.
And at 59, I thought I knew everything Low-Key. Apparently I do not! I'm from the Great Lakes state of WI and I've never heard of City Chicken. I swear if I see it anything soon, I'm gonna XXX YYY ZZZ.

As a kid, one of my friends mom made city chicken. Other than that I’ve never had it or heard of anyone making it

I heard of City Chicken. Never had it. Tonight I'm making fried scrapple sandwiches with egg and cream cheese on kaiser rolls. I guess most people will go, "Scrapple, ewww! but we all love it.

I don’t know what’s for dinner. We just had a bad storm go through and the power is out. It may end up being a peanut butter sandwich if it’s off too long.

I’m not sure most people will have heard of it? My great aunt always had scrapple for breakfast when we visited when I was a kid. My mother said I wouldn’t eat it if I knew what it was. I think I knew at one time, but I’ve forgotten. She lived in Shickshinny, PA—near Wilkes Barre.
