Yo Ho Yo Ho A Pirate's Life for We Halloween *2012* PTR has begun!

Whoo Hoo another Diser at Halloween!!!! Have you checked in on the October thread?
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=39630085#post39630085

And, if you are planning on doing it, the thread on whos going to the Halloween TOT Party.

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2638955

All signed up on both boards and waiting as patiently as I can for the party dates to come out.

I love all your pictures! Unfortunately for us most of our pictures came out just horrible from our trip last year. We just bought a new point and shoot with vibration control and a 7x zoom and this time made sure we have 2 batteries and 2 memory cards. Costumes have been picked out. SOOOOO excited. The best part is the kids don't know quite yet we are going this year. They think we are going next.

Anywho, I just love how tender hearted Colton is! A very bright and insightful little man. You are truely blessed!

After seeing how long everyone waited for the party dates last year :scared1:yikes:scared1: I just want to plan! Wish the DL calendar was like the DW one 6 months in advance would be wonderful for me! waiting might kill me. Our costumes are done as well and our son does know.

Thanks for the compliment on our pics, DH was doing the camera work this trip mostly as I was busy staring at out son LOL.

He is a gem that kid of mine...even when he is throwing a fit in the lego store he does it with style LOL

Sherri, finally getting a chance to read through your PTR & TR!! Loving it!!

What a bummer about Goofy's Kitchen.....as soon as they were running that far behind for seating.....the character manager should have been told that they would need to have characters up to closing. I'm so glad they refunded your money!! We love going to GK, we've had fabulous experiences & some not so great....but we still enjoy going & my hubby & I have added it to our trip.

Minnie's is a wonderful meal for characters!! We saw 14 in 09.....couldn't believe how many were there. We lucked out getting there before the characters on the floor were leaving & the new set was coming on.....BONUS! I agree, the food is just ok......we strictly do this meal for the interaction. I'm not big on standing in long character lines & will gladly pay the price & give up park time to do these meals. These meals are the things the kids talk about the most when we get home.

Congrats to Colton for getting picked his first time at the Jedi Academy. Anthony has wanted to do this every trip & we'd never planned it into our days......so this past summer, I had my oldest son take him. I told him, only a couple kids get picked & he said, that's ok.....I want to watch the show. Next thing I know, my son is texting us to tell us that Anthony got picked!!!! Beginner's luck for both of our boys!

Looking forward to your next installment........glad things started looking up after your very hard first day!!!

I'm not sure why people always say you "give up" the 90 minutes of park time...What are you giving up? Think how long it would have taken us Christmas week to stand in 11 character lines. It boggles my mind. I now think of our charater meals as "saving" park time since we can skip most if not all of the character lines. I do wish there were more options of characters at lunch or dinnertime so we could spend more quiet morning time in the park doing other things. This trip we were there 4 days and 3 mornings were at charater meals but I don't think we will ever do all 4 again this was a special trip.

I totally agree, I've never thought of the character meals as replacing park time. It's all Disney experiences & an important part of every trip we do. I take advantage of the full 90 minutes too........I've seen people go in, grab their food & be out in a half hour......why even do the character meal??

It would be nice to have some more lunch & dinner options & maybe even start some new ones.

I know I saw people rushing through too...You pay for 90 minutes use the 90 minutes really!

OK so we arrived at Blue Bayou with 2 minutes to spare upon exiting Pirates of the Carribean without having to use the crazy route to get through crowd control thanks to a delightful last minute ride on POC.

Went to check in and they said we would have about a 20 minute wait. Asked for the coveted waterfront table (after all I waited almost 40 years for this meal I wanted it to be just as I imagined it) and they said it would be more like 35 minutes No problem an extra 15 for my perfect experience we will be happy to wait.

Now comes my 1 real complaint about the Blue Bayou experience. The waiting area is small with minimal seating and the place was busy. My leg was killing me and had been most of the day ( I have severe arthritis in my left knee) and I really needed to sit if we were going to be waiting 35 minutes also Brants back was sore & Colton was tired. We ended up finding a spot on the steps near where they park strollers & wheelchairs etc low to the ground & we were not at all sure we would be able to get back up again so Brant stood while Colton & I sat. 10 minutes later they called us to our table!
Brant had to help me get up off the steps my leg was stiff already.

Our table was right on the railing just to the right of center a beautiful spot.
The atmosphere exceeded my expectations! I don't know if I can even describe it well enough to do it justice. The beautiful faux sky above (I really don't spend too much time looking up when I am on the ride too much to see but when at BB I had plenty of time to really appreciate it..amazing!) The sounds of the water and the blinking fireflies amazing again this is a very romantic spot and since this was my belated anniversary gift wonderfully appropriate. My DH made an aside to me that it would be the perfect anniversary dinner if we were alone.

For appetizers Brant ordered the salad I ordered the gumbo and Colton had carrots & celery sticks with Ranch dressing (one of his favorite snacks!) Brant & I shared so we could try both. Colton dug into his while watching the boats. They were only about 15 feet away but through the entire meal I never was able to hear conversations from the boats so they were just the perfect distance away. It was blissfully peaceful especially after such a busy day in the park.

As soon as his appetizer was done Colton rested his head on his hands and watching the boats he fell asleep. I mean truely asleep not just dozed we could not wake him to eat his entree. Our wonderful waitress offered us the choice of either packing his food to go or removing his meal from the bill. Since I could not imagine carrying food around the park I asked for it to be removed. Mind you the entrees had arrived at this point so his dinner had already been made and was at the table, they did not have to do this.

So our wonderful kid had just given us our romantic anniversary dinner alone (sort of) after all.

There are no pics of the food or atmosphere at Blue Bayou I may do this on other trips but on our first ever visit we did not want to ruin the atmosphere and the unexpected adult time snapping pics.

Brant ordered the Buccaneer's Beef Short Ribs - Slow-roasted, then finished in a Zinfandel demi-glaze. with Blue Bayou Potatoes & seasonal vegetables he loved it the ribs literally melted in his mouth.

I ordered the Bayou Surf and Turf - A succulent, sweet petite lobster tail from the Pacific Northwest, paired with an expertly broiled filet mignon, sauce bearnaise. with Blue Bayou Potatoes & seasonal vegetables the lobster was cold but good the filet was wonderful.

Once we had eaten dinner we discussed dessert and had decided to share something. Our waitress came by with Colton's birthday dessert and advised since he was sleeping she brought it for us to share, would we like anything else for dessert? Wow we didn't even pay for sleeping birthday boy's meal and we still got his free birthday dessert? It was a perfect light chocolate mousse just enough to share and be satisfied.

Now BB was expensive in comparison to the food but add the atmosphere and the nearly perfect experience I had imagined coming true I was not at all sad about passing over the dough.

Now Colton was still completely out. Brant picked him up and carried him out of the restaurant which was no small feat given how his back was feeling and how close together the tables were. As he reached the steps to the waiting area he stumbled and half dropped our poor son. We managed to get out of the restaurant with our totally asleep son and realized we were done for the day but now we needed to get to the ART stop somehow and it was painfully obvious that neither one of us was in any shape to carry Colton through the crowd.

While we were standing by the ROA deciding what we were going to do Brant snapped this photo of the Mark Twain all lit up. Notice sleeping Colton (being held up by Mom in the lower right corner.

We finally came to the conclusion that if we put his feet on our feet and each took one arm we could "walk" him to the NOS train station and ride over to Main St. This actually worked very well although it must have looked ridiculous. We boarded the 3rd train the same way and after reaching main st we started walking to the ART the same way. He woke a little bit when we hit all the DTD lights so he was able to walk with us holding his hands to keep him upright.

This was the ONLY crowded ART bus of our entire trip and there was standing room only. Colton was having a hard time staying upright and another mom had her older child stand up so I could sit with Colton on my lap. This night I was very thankful that the ART stop was so close to the Anabella but the trip up the stars to our suite was a bit harrowing.

We just put colton to bed in his clothes and showered and crashed.

Hopefully tomorrow would not be so awfully crowded.

Next up Day 4 our Magic Morning & Storyteller's breakfast.

We did BB for our 25th anniversary in 09. We had never eaten there & we were thrilled with our dinner!! We sat waterside & we cracked up when boats floated by yelling for us to throw food......I finally yelled back....."throw money!!" lol

While we were enjoying our apps, I hear.....Mike....Laurie.....Mike......Laurie......it was our kids on the ride! I snapped a photo....but it was way dark....but still can see one or two of them.

We each had our own app, shared the salmon dinner & then had the famous cookie boat for dessert. So sad they quit doing them.....I think it's because, people were coming in just for the cookie boat & they really wanted people to come in for the meal.

Absolutely wonderful experience & super tasty food!!!! Glad we did it, but don't feel the need to repeat in the near future. We're doing Napa Rose at the Chef's Counter this trip for our anniversary. We're not the kind of people that eat this type of food.....but you have to try it at least once....and this is our shot to do so!!

Colton sure is a little trooper!!!

I loved it but it won't be an every trip for us either. For example the money that would have been spent at BB is going to tickets for MTOTP on our halloween 2011 trip.

We woke up to a beautiful sunshiny day in Southern California and set out for the parks. We skipped ART for the walk to the parks. We did this every morning BTW the walk from the Anabella is a very nice one with a nicely landscaped walkway leading to the GCH then you cut through the GCH and into DTD took about 7 minutes at a nice walk but some days we moseyed along this path looking at the flowers & plants as they were part of the joy of our trip due to the total lack of them up in our corner of the world this time of year.

Since we had cut our night short the night before we were all up in time to finally do our magic morning.

This was another crazy crowded day at the resort. I have never had a MM like this one. The only ride we did during our MM was Dumbo seriously we got off the Dumbo ride at 8:05 am 1 hour 5 minutes one ride.

163-1.jpg

Brant shot video while he rode with Colton as after riding the Astro Orbiter with Colton at the controls I was not riding this one with him the jerky up and downs he does on this type of ride had me feeling a bit sick. So there are no pics while on the ride but when Brant finishes editing the video I will post a link.

After getting off the ride we took some photos at the stationary dumbo photo spot.

With MM being this crazy I worried a bit about our day but as this was the day we planned to spend mostly at DCA we figured we would escape most of the crowd. We bid farewell to DL and headed to our character breakfast at Storyteller's Cafe in the GCH.

This is a beautiful restaurant. I loved the decor, we spent quite some time picking out all the different animals on the chandeliers. We did think it a bit odd that the horse had a rider as all the other animals were depicted in their wild state the cowboy didn't seem to go with the rest.

We all had the buffet I have to say this was the best omlette station at any of the buffets we ate at this week. I had a glorious Spinach, Mushroom & Bacon one. Now this is a favorite combo of mine that when at home I only get if I make it at home there are no restaurants with spinach as an option they look at me really funny when I ask for this in Montana. I made sure to compliment the CM at that station on our way out truly top notch.

As at all the buffets this week the fruit was exceptional really lovely. In addition to the buffet items they brought a plate of mickey waffles to the table for us to share.

The only pic of food Brant got was this one of Colton's plate

223.jpg

Our first visitor was Turk from Tarzan

217.jpg

Kenai (sp?) from Brother bear was next. When Colton tried to hand him the autograph book he just shook his head? In case you didn't know Koda & Kenai are the only 2 characters that do not do autographs something about the design of their hands/paws makes it impossible (this info was gleaned from a CM later that day)

218.jpg

A CM dressed as a ranger came by and gathered up all the kids to play follow the leader and Chip and Dale passed out buttons to all the kids Colton came back to the table with 3 one for each of us.

After follow the leader we were visited by Chip & Dale sadly one after the other so no pic with both of them in it. Really these guys seem to be everywhere at DLR.

222.jpg

I think this may be the one moment all week Colton did not want his picture taken.

224.jpg

You would think that after all these years they would come up with a way to keep your ears on that didn't start bugging you so early in the day.

228.jpg

Brer Bear came by next. This was one of our favorite interactions all week. Colton immediately told him Splash was his favorite ride, BB mimed back that it was his too. The next words out of Colton's mouth had everyone in the vicinity laughing including Brer Bear (I actually heard a noise through the costume) he was doubled over. Colton said "Now you need to stop hanging around with Brer Fox Don't listen to him he is a bad influence on you" I thought I was going to choke on my food. Brer Bear spent a good 10 minutes at our table playing with Colton I have a feeling this story was told backstage that day I like to think we made his day. It certainly made ours.

Our last visitor at this breakfast was Meeko from Pocahontas

We bid farewell to Storyteller's and headed for our next destination DCA where we hoped to avoid the crowds.

Next up a return trip to the Lego store and Our first ever visit to DCA

I am loving your TR, Sherri! I haven't been to DLR since I was a teenager, but will be going in June. Your descriptions have really helped me and I can't wait to read more. I've gotten teary more than once reading your report, you sound like a great family!

We just moved to a farm in North Dakota, so I know your pain with this winter! I have friends in Froid - is that near you?

I'm glad you are enjoying it! Always like to hear from another reader lets you know that what you are putting into a TR is appreciated by someone besides yourself ( I go back and read mine over every once in a while just to feel like I am there again) This being my 1st TR I love that I have recorded this trip not just for others but as a reminder of all the little details that would naturally fade with time. When it is done we are going to print it all out for our scrapbook.

This winter has really been the roughest since we moved here the people that have lived here their whole lives are saying it is the worst in a very long time. So much for global warming right? This week has been rather nice though we haven't had to bundle up like the kid from "A Christmas Story" it has been between 25 and 35 degrees during the day.

Froid is 186 miles east of us, didn't know where it was but I looked it up.

I really enjoyed our meal at Storytellers.....it was fun seeing some different characters! The meal was very laid back....a great way to start your day. We saw almost the same characters as you!! We saw Brer Fox (a family fav) instead of Brer Bear & also saw Rafiki.

That's crazy about your MM.....never heard about it being that busy!!

This trip you are reading about was after 8 years away my longest ever...all I can say is the more things change the more they stay the same...I know I love most those things (even if it is a trashcan or a bench) that I can remember from childhood but some of the new stuff is pretty good too.

This reminded me of when I went back in Nov. 2009 after my 13 year absence. I was worried that the Disneyland I grew up with was long gone and that I wouldn't recognize anything. I was so happy (tears running down my cheeks happy) that I got that same old feeling when I headed through the tunnel and walked down Main Street for the first time after all those years. :cloud9: I couldn't believe some of the trash cans were the same! That was such a treat! :rotfl: I was amazed at how much had changed...but at the same time...how much remained the same. It was awesome. :)

Still enjoying your TR. How fun to have a random meet-up like that with DH's old friend.

The Fast Pass thing... I agree. I couldn't believe how many people were just standing in the Standby line for an hour plus while the FP people sailed by with a 10 minute wait. Like you said, even if you didn't know about FP, it seems like you would try to figure out what all these other people were doing.

I'm glad you enjoyed your Blue Bayou experience. :goodvibes

And Colton is quite a kid! It is obvious how much you adore him.

Looking forward to reading more...

Wait...were you in line for Dumbo for an hour during your MM? One ride the whole MM?!? I can't imagine the crowds. I thought it was bad last April when I was by myself for MM and I only got in 4 rides.

Storyteller's was definitely the most laid back of the character meals we did. Plus some of these characters are rare in the parks so bonus!

Ya same here never have seen anyones TR with a magic morning like that one WOW it was bad. We didn't make a run for it as Colton was still at the slow in the morning stage but we reached FL within 5-6 minutes and there were lines for everything so we just let him pick where to go and stood in line.

So silly to get teary eyed because you recognise a trash can but hey they were like old friends!

Yep 1 hour long line during MM couldn't believe it myself I was standing there thinking we could have slept in until breakfast time :rotfl: It is kinda funny in retrospect and something we will prob always remember. But at the time in the moment I was really annoyed that we finally got up early for the most abnormal MM I ever heard of or experienced.

Really had that been our first ever MM and I didn't know better I would never have done another. It was crazy.

Plus I forgot to do our review of Storytellers lol

Overall it was a lovely atmosphere very relaxing and laid back. Not as noisy as the other 3 for sure. The follow the leader bit was the first real activity we had seen at any of our meals and Colton enjoyed it. Also this getting the kids up and moving kind of woke them up (at least my kid) got their blood pumping a bit. I understand they do a dance thing at Goofy's usually but we didn't experience that this trip. Overall the buffet seemed a bit smaller than at the others but like I said earlier the best omlette bar, but change the CM cooking them and that could change of course. If your kid is a fan of any of these cuddly critters this is a nice breakfast but note we did not see even 1 of the big 6 (for my kid these are Mickey & Minnie, Donald & Daisy, Goofy & Pluto) at this breakfast and most kids want to see at least 1 of these. We got another button as a souvineer at this one...the only one that did not give out buttons was Goofy's and I am not sure if this is the norm or not but you would think at a premium character meal you should get more not less?

Lastly I found some more pics of Goofy's house and a car (that I am not sure where it is from except it was in toontown)that ended up out of order in Photobucket for some reason so here you go enjoy

We are doing more counter service restaurants and sharing so we get to do MTOTP. Blue Bayou always looks wonderful and I wouldn't mind experiencing it once, but the thought of paying for 6 people :scared1:. We'll patiently wait til we go by ourselves.

I'm glad you got to celebrate your anniversary here, and Colton once again knew just when to fall asleep!:rotfl:
