Yo Ho, Yo Ho, A Pirate's Life for Three... C 32, P 39 - The End...Or Is It?

So glad that DS made it through that day---I think that Florida sun can be so devastating on our little ones----we have often joked that we need to keep Megan on a fluid IV drip to keep her hydrated. In June, we got to the point that if it was wet, we didn't care what it was she was drinking as long as she kept hydrated. (I guess I should clarify that she doesn't drink carbonated beverages, so I guess it wasn't EXACTLY anything goes.......but we did let her have as many popsicles, ice cream bars, slushies, smoothies, etc. as long as she was drinking. It does also help that her honest to goodness favorite drink is water!!!)

You have turned me on to the world of Junky Apples---I can't WAIT to have one!!!!

Awe, TK! I'm sorry that your little nugget wasn't feeling so well... but hopefully it was just the dehydration you'd mentioned and nothing more, yes?!

You know, thank you for sharing that with me. Sometimes I feel like a lackluster parent, you know what I mean? But to hear you do something similar really makes me feel better! Heck, I know the heat gets to me, never mind the little peanut! :lmao:

Awe, TK! I'm sorry that your little nugget wasn't feeling so well... but hopefully it was just the dehydration you'd mentioned and nothing more, yes?!

Well, for him, it was just dehydration and a bit of a fever.

You'll see what happens in the next chapter or two.

I'm thinking a junky apple and a turkey leg and you're SET!

That is perfection right there.

Absolute perfection.

Okay, I finally had a chance to read. I am so glad that DS got better during the day -- I know how worried you must have been!

Ever since I read about your junky apple, I swear I have heard one calling out my name -- just a whisper -- kind of ghosty-y -- I think mine has lots of chocolate things on it. :rotfl:

Oh, their siren call must be particularly difficult for you since you're so close to Disney World! See, it gets more diluted as it travels up here to New England. It's more like a faint murmur.

Yes, the junky apples -- they call to me -- and I can hear them oh so well -- luring me towards their glass display cases just eight hours away! ;)

Hey, eight hours by car is a heck of a lot closer than TK's car ride, that's for dang sure. :lmao:

TK--IMO, you NEVER need to worry about being a lackluster parent!!! I read about your concern for DS, I know sweetie that you are doing the things that need to be done to help them learn nutritious eating habits and whatnot, and you need not worry about anything that you choose to do with DS for sickness' sake or any other reason!!!! Megan is an amazingly good eater--not that she eats a LOT, but she knows, and has known for some time, what are healthy choices and what are not. She knows that we will allow an occasional treat, but usually will choose healthy things many more times over the sugary or junky foods any day. Like I said, my girl LOVES water---she NEVER touches soft drinks (except for Sprite when she has a stomach flu), and barely ever drinks juices either. We do have to force her daily allowance of milk on her, but she will drink it because she knows how much her doctor wants her to drink it to help her muscles get stronger. When we are at special places like Disney though, we do whatever we can to keep her hydrated, because she seems to dehydrate so quickly---so the popsicles, frozen juices, etc. come in handy at times!!!

Welcome to the Tinkerbellarella Multi-Quote-A-Thon!

Jasmine? Although I love her, and she was sweet, not so much.

Well maybe all of us women with thighs and bottoms that enjoy chocolate more than even our tastebuds do would like her more if she were more clothing and fewer tissues.

I love my husband, he's not me. Good thing, huh, because that would just be weird?

Well.
It would either be weird.
Or fantastically lucrative in the circus sideshow loop.

I knew it was bad when I could hear, quite clearly, "YOU'RE NOT MY BEST FRIEND! I WANT MAMA!!!!"

:lmao:

I'm not laughing AT you. Or DS. Or DH.
Really I'm not.
But I AM laughing.

Like a wonderful sharp cheese, or robust red wine on a nice fall evening.

Or quattro formaggi crushed potatoes.
Sorry.
I hadn't said that in a long time.

Was it actually possible that my little nut could sleep through something so loud as Hallowishes? Especially considering how close we were to the castle.

Another gem I should've shared with you ahead of time, since the nugget is so very much like his Auntie Tink (MINE!):
The boy will sleep through WWIII, a hurricane and the one of the worst thunderstorms the little city of Fall River has ever seen.
Not that I've ever done those last two.
Much.

Now at this point, my feet were hurting.

A bit.

Okay, a lot. But not as much as they'd be hurting at the end of the night.

Aah. The things we do for cute feet.

She glanced up, and looked back down as if he were just another guest. And then it registered. The costume. The eyeliner. The hotness, if you will. And she looked up again quickly and smiled, this really big wide smile. And my DH was totally oblivious, and I just sort of chuckled to myself.

BF gets checked out all the time when we're at the mall.
And he's OBLIVIOUS.
I've stopped telling him.
For fear of inflating his ego to Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade balloon proportions.
:sad2:

I really, really wanted to see if we could get our picture in front of Cinderella's Glass Coach.

I'm bitter about my Glass Coach experience and "The Nasty Lil' CM That Couldn't".
But I'm glad yours was a dream come true!

She told us to kiss.

Altogether now, "AWWWWWWW."

image086-1.jpg

Woohoo! Headless photo! The Horseman would be proud. :goodvibes

But not after searching for vending machines.

But did you find any nooks? Niches? Random public spaces where one might sit and spell and, oh, I dunno, nap?

One of the people I called was my mother.

Yes.

I missed her. :rolleyes1

I imagine that when you're reporting on your December trip you will repeat this statement, only, replace 'mother' with Tink. ;)

One of the funniest parts? When I was pregnant with DS, I used to call him Pudge. After the fish in the beginning of Lilo and Stitch. Lilo and Stitch has a special meaning to myself and DH anyway, since we saw it the day before we got married. It was the only thing we did alone together that day, and I'll never forget it. So, when I was pregnant, it made sense to call the baby Pudge, since he made a little...and then much bigger...pudge in my belly. :thumbsup2

Sweetest. Story. Ever.

We were hoping to distract him with The Little Mermaid.

Funny. I think wives use that same technique to get their husbands into that attraction.

Odd that I should be at this point in our trip considering what Tink posted about rude people / children. :lmao:

Yup. This whole group literally cut right in front of us in the queue.

Jerks.

In the form of an Itzakadoozie. I love saying that. Those are the best popsicles, they really are.

Itzakadoozie
Itzakadoozie
Itzakadoozie
I also loved saying that. Which left Missy mystified:

Me: "Itzakadoozie!"
Missy: "Itza-what?"
Me: "Itzakadoozie!!"
Missy: "Itza who now?"
Me: "Itzakadoozie!!!"
Missy: "If you say so."

Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

That's hot. (NOParis)

I loved the queue area, by the way, but lament that as part of the fastpass line, you totally bypass Mr. Tato. Ah well. Maybe someday.

We did both (as you'll find out in an upcoming update). If the line's not obnoxious, it's actually totally worth waiting in for Mr. Tato and all the wonderful toys!

I got him another Itzakadoozie.

Itzakadoozie
Itzakadoozie
Itzakadoozie

Keeping moving, people. Nothing to look at here.

Villain Candy Store

At first I thought I heard angels singing just now.
Then I realized it was a chorus of calorie-carrying demon candy apples.
I got an apple covered in chocolate fudge, covered in Reeses Pieces. There may have been some caramel in there too, I'm not sure.

Tink's TR Spoiler Alert!!!

Mine was covered with caramel and peanuts.
::sigh::

I ate half of it under the cover of night while the boys slept. Oh...so good. Something that good should be a sin. I'm sure I'll have to go to confession over it.

Amen.

Awesome updates, my sistah!

You're only laughing because you have a clear mental image of how this went down. :lmao:

Dang Boma curse. This is the second time I've tried to post this chapter. The first time, I lost the whole thing. Good thing I type it all in Word, eh? ;)

We dawn a new day. Again. This trip report is racing along entirely too quickly for my taste, since we're getting to the latter half of the week.

And we're getting to the worst dining experience of our trip.

:::sigh:::

Boma. Why have you forsaken me? In your hallowed walls, praised by DISers aplenty, why, oh why, did you pick the TK clan to...spit on?

We took the bus to the Magic Kingdom and immediately lined up for the bus for the Animal Kingdom Lodge. The driver wanted to know if we were headed to the Animal Kingdom, we told her no, the Lodge. It was a private ride for us, we were the only three on the bus, so I'm assuming she would have taken us to the AK if we wanted, which was very nice.

Perhaps we should have taken the hint. Now, I admit folks, I could write a whole chapter about how horrifying this experience was to me. But in retrospect, and at the time I said a couple of things, mostly to DH. One, we'd had a fantastic week, and stellar dining so far. We were bound to run across one bad meal. Two, everything happens for a reason, and the rest of our day panned out pretty well.

But honestly? HUGE dissappointment. :sad2:

I don't know if I can describe to you how in love with food I am. How one of the reasons that I have trouble losing weight is not for lack of exercise but for love of food. I hate to blame it all on being part Italian, because it's really due to my parents views on food as well. It's part of my memories, part of those warm fuzzy feelings we all have about certain events. And a lot of that is tied in to food.

So for me to say to my husband, "Honey, I feel like that was fuel and nothing else," is a huge slap in the face to Boma. And I'm not trying to throw down here. I'm entitled to this opinion, and unfortunately, it's a negative one. Which is really not like me. But there you have it. All of the baked goods were dry as dust. No moisture at all. The food was unappealing. We tried practically everything and nothing said wow to us, you know? In that moment, I was sorely missing my standard Chef Mickey's fare. Simple, plain, but enjoyable edible.

Boma was not.

And I was sad. It had been hyped up so much, I expected it to be one of the highlights of our trip. Instead it felt like a waste of time. Now we had some good moments, and our waiter was very friendly. But he was so lax in service! Other tables got large cups of that yummy juice, ours were small. Don't know if they asked for them, but it put us out a little. It took him forever to clear empty dishes, and we felt a bit odd, because we were three people, and they sat us at a table for eight. I mean we had extra room to spread out, but it was just odd. He also took FOREVER to bring the check. Fifteen to twenty minutes forever. I sat there waiting, had already sent DH and DS out so it was quite obvious we were done. And he saw me. Waiting. But was chatting with another table. That whole time. Apparently, they liked their food. Fine, great, wonderful. Bring the check so I can pay and leave. I was so disgusted, even when he apologized for taking so long. But I am nothing if not gracious, and I didn't stiff him on the tip. I left something that seemed reasonable.

And that, my dear friends, is my one and only experience with Boma. Because my charming husband, the man who humored me so much on this trip, the man who could be taken anywhere to do pretty much anything and do it with a smile, said he would never, ever go back. And I wouldn't make him. Not even to try dinner.

Maybe ten years from now, DS will be a teenager, and he'll say, hey, there's this really cool restaurant I want to go to in the Animal Kingdom Lodge, and DH and I will sigh, roll our eyes, and give in. Because even if he's a teenager, he's still my little nugget. But until that day, c'est la vie.

We headed on to the Animal Kingdom with leaden bellies. That food just sat. Uncomfortably. I tried to move past it. Or hope it would move past me. Sooner rather than later. Even if it meant a number four of ZZUB proportions.

As we got into the Animal Kingdom, I felt refreshed. I wasn't going to let that breakfast affect our whole day. And this was an exciting day. The day we planned to conquer the Animal Kingdom by doing things we'd never done before.

In essence, going to the left.

See, we've never gone to Camp Minnie Mickey. Ever.

DisneySept08-1012.jpg

How many years have I been going to that park? Since it opened? Never gone left? Oh the tragedy of it all. NOBoma.

Now it wasn't terribly hot, which was surprising to me. We actually lucked out, and it was one of the coolest days I've ever had in the Animal Kingdom. Things were looking up as we stopped to reapply our sunblock. Even if it was cooler, it was still quite sunny.

So off to the left we went.

Pirates. pirate:

Mickey was great. While we waited in line we chatted with the lady in front of us who had an amazing denim shirt she'd embroidered herself with TONS of Disney characters. That shirt kept DS so entertained. And she was great, letting him play find the character. We watched her get her pictures, and then it was our turn. DS was still a little shy, so we had the pirate treasure out. Mickey was so wonderful with DS, making a big deal over the treasure. He took a lot of photos with us, and then instructed a little session between him and DH which came out really cute.

After that, it was just about time to line up for Festival of the Lion King, which I was really, really excited to see. DS had taken a shine to the movie in recent months, and reading about this on ZZUB's trip report I knew it was something he would enjoy, and us, as well. Let me just say one word: AMAZING! :thumbsup2

That show was incredible! The color, the movement, the singing. Oh my goodness! If you haven't seen it, I highly, highly recommend it. I turned to DH at one point and said, and I quote, "Does this make up for Boma?" I felt like we were being rewarded for slugging down that god awful food. And rewarded a plenty!

At first, DS was a bit nervous. It is pretty loud. We took out Spiderman, and half-way through, I stole a glance at DS to check on him. He was still holding Spiderman, but he had that perfect look of awe on his face. You know that look. That look that I lived for during this trip. That look of childhood innocence and astonishment all wrapped into one. It was pure heaven, that look. From that point on, I spent half my time watching the show and half my time watching DS. I was in heaven. :cloud9:

Afterwards, we knew we were running on borrowed time. It was getting close to nap time, but we were hoping to squeeze in a ride on the safari before DS conked out. On the way over, we decided to get DS an ice cream to keep him cooled off. I would have gotten him an Itzakadoozie, but they don't carry them in the Animal Kingdom. My theory on that is because the center of the stick is really like a straw, they won't have them there since it would harm the animals. And that concludes the scientific portion of this trip report. If there was one. A scientific portion that is. I think it's pretty evident this is a trip report. Anyway, the boy opted for a nice strawberry fruit bar instead.

We headed over to the safari, not knowing what to expect, and it was a walk on! WOO HOO! Now, I was concerned since DS hadn't finished his ice cream yet, but the cast members were so friendly, and insistent. Oh, no, no, they said, come right on in, he can finish it on the way there. We passed at least three of them who had no problem with the ice cream, and kept inviting us onward. Since there was no line, I took some time to look at all the wonderful details in the in the theming, and let people pass us. It was great.

For the first time ever, we got to sit in the front row! I was so excited. It was like the food gods had taken pity on me, talked to the ride gods, and I was being rewarded again! Our tour guide was wonderful. She talked just enough, you know what I mean? We saw lots of animals, and I didn't take pictures. I have plenty of pictures of that safari, and I'm sick of seeing it behind a camera lens. Sometimes you have to just enjoy it and let it live in your memory, savvy?

Now you all remember my son, right?

Little boy who fell asleep and stayed asleep during the MNSSHP fireworks? Yeah.

Well, suffice it to say sleepy time is sleepy time. And he stretched out across our laps about halfway through the safari and went to sleep. Right then and there. Do you all have any idea how bumpy that ride is? He slept through the rest of it. Poor little nugget was done. Now, I wasn't worried, because this morning, he was feeling a lot better than the day before. I chalked it up to dehydration...I didn't know what was to come.

So, with sleeping child in stroller, DH and I decided to take a lovely little stroll. We got some photopass pictures taken in front of the Tree, and stopped at a little cart to get some slushy drinks. I had a slushy Chai Tea, and let me tell you, it really hit the spot. DH decided to do the single rider line on Expedition Everest, so I sat and waited for him in this nice area near Nemo with a HUGE fan blowing on me. With my slushy tea. And a happily sleeping toddler.

Oh, heaven. :cloud9:

After that, we headed to Dinoland to try our luck at some games. And the claw machine curse apparently had extended to carnival games now, because, no dice.

Bummer!

Up next - Do we stay to watch Nemo or go tropical?

So sorry about Boma :(.

Glad you had such a great time at FOLTK and the safari -- but what is up with that grim foreshadowing of, "Now, I wasn't worried, because this morning, he was feeling a lot better than the day before. I chalked it up to dehydration...I didn't know what was to come"? That can't possibly be good. :scared1:

So sorry about Boma :(.

I only hated writing this chapter because of you. I mean to say, I knew you'd feel badly. It was an off day. What can you do but chalk it up to that, you know?

That's okay -- don't feel badly -- there have been places that others have gone to that I was like, "WTH? I didn't like the food there!" It really sounds like a horribly off day in the kitchen!

Well, DS was fine... :rolleyes1

I feel like Scooby Doo, "Rut-roh!"

Exactly. And I'm sure at some point, I'd consider trying it again, but I know my family won't. :lmao:

I feel like Scooby Doo, "Rut-roh!"

Now, see, herein lies the beauty of "Disney has something for everyone."

We had dinner at Boma, and except for my terrible disappointment over the size of the Zebra Domes, it was excellent. Although our server was a tad slow, too. Maybe it's a cultural thing.

At Animal Kingdom, we did FOTLK on our last trip. NO desire to do it again. I dunno...maybe it's because on that trip, MIL was with us and absolutely insisted we see this show, at the expense of anything else. That was the trip that I saw probably 10% of the entire park, and never even got to walk all the way around the Tree! Was it a good show?...yes. But for me, that's it. Once was enough.

I did love the Camp Minnie Mickey character grove though!

And I know exactly where you were when you were waiting by Nemo and the Big Fan!! :thumbsup2 I looked at that same fan on our way by and remember commenting on how cool (literally) it was that Disney put those around the park.

I love this post.

I remember reading about your dinner and thinking man, I wish I'd left it at dinner and not switched to breakfast! :lmao:

See, it's amazing how who you're with will color your perception of something. Because for me, that show was IT. And you know it's because I'd never been able to see it with the whole family in tow, and it was the first time seeing it, and DS loved it so much. Truly, something for everyone.

I wondered if anyone would know! I described it rather obscurely, that's too funny that you know the exact spot. :goodvibes
