In the past I’ve asked numerous times if I could downgrade when calling into Universal to renew DH & my Preferred 2 Park APHs
Always told we could bump up to Premier or 3 park, etc. but downgrading was not permitted. It would result in the purchase of a new APH.
DH hasn’t visited as often as I have over the last few years. The seasonal would work perfectly for him when we don’t plan on doing Mardi Gras concerts. The option is always there to upgrade @ GS if his travel plans would change.
I called earlier this week when I received the renewal email for DH in order to get accurate pricing. Asked re downgrade and told it was possible!!! Honestly, thought it might have been a mistake.
Didn’t book then as I wanted to run it past him exactly what pass he did want this go-round. Called back the next day and talked to a different TM. She said the same thing: no problem downgrading & receiving that pass at a renewal rate.
Anecdotally, the policy appears to have changed sometime this spring, perhaps after April from what I gather. Neither TM could shed any light on that.
This puts U in line with WDW’s policy as to APHs. Since both parks tend to follow price increases etc., I often did wonder why U’s policy was more restrictive.
As in all things, YMMV. Will be interesting to see if my experience was a fluke or if it’s a new policy & whether it’s temporary or permanent accommodation.
Hope others will post on the boards to share their experience as to downgrading.
JMHO but it’s a great way to keep APHs going when you’re not sure what your travel plans will entail. It easily permits a family to just bear the expense of keeping one Pref APH going for parking & dining perks.
