Do have a membership to your local YMCA? This month ours is running a special with no registration fees. DH & I are going to go tomorrow to see what all they have to offer. I think it would be nice for my family. My children, 13, 8 & 3 will probably enjoy it too. It's just 50.00 a month for the whole family.

We currently have a membership for just DD. Her membership is $16/month. She takes gymnastics and swimming with the YMCA. Those cost extra of course. :)

Yes I make my monthly donation to the YMCA for a family membership. I say donation because I can count on one hand how many times I have worked out over the last year. It's a beautiful, brand new, state of the art facility less than 5 minutes away. We pay $73 a month.

My 9yo uses it more often for swim classes, soccer, dance, the kids gym and gymnastics. I'm afraid the day I change the membership to a single one will be the day I finally get in gear and start exercising..

I go to there workout room every night

We belong. The boys have been taking swimming lessons there for about a year. I work out then when the mood stikes - which isn't often enough.

We have a family membership also, only $35 / month. We benefit from the member discounts for the kids soccer (I think we save $40-$60/kid) and ds's swim team. I very seldom actually work out in the YMCA because I run and MUCH prefer running outside, but it is great to be able to leave my kids in child care and hit their outdoor track. I am too self-consious to go in the weight room, so I do my weight training at home.

We just got a family membership this summer and all I can say is it has already been so great for the kids and Dh and I! I love being able to go and swim and relax. My Ds and Dd think the Y is the coolest place on the earth. Go and enjoy it you will love it! :)

Been a member for almost a year and love it. It's the only 2 hours a day that I get to myself and my children love the interaction with the other children. It has been a great place that has given my life back. I have lost 17 pounds, gained lots of muscle and can look at the mirror and like who is looking back. The staff is also wonderful, I can't imagine getting that kind of service from the brand name gyms.

I was just looking at the website & I was wrong, it's 63.00 a month. I think it will still be worth it. If I would join Curves, it would cost have that much & just be available for me. This is something all 5 of us could enjoy. Plus the free babysitter would really be nice. It would give my son a chance to interact with more children his age. :)

We have two YMCA's in our area and get family membership at both facilities for $65 a month. The newest facility has a big waterpark type pool that my kids love. The kids have taken swimming lessons and play soccer at the Y. I work out with other "Mommie" friends and we check the kids into free babysitting. We love the family atmosphere.

The Y is a better place to work out than curves--at least it gives you a well-rounded workout with more options. IMO, curves is better for older ladies ir those who are just starting to work & trying to get into shape. It's less intimidating than regular gyms. Our family membership is $63/month and I'm there several times a week.

We belong to our local Y and use it frequently. DD and I feel very welcome and love the family atmosphere. I work out there and feel really comfortable in the gym -- it's got a nice mix of people who are friendly and are there to work out, not look for dates. DD and I love family swim friday nights and have a standing date during the winter to go there and swim to our hearts content ot until the pool closes...whichever comes first.

Also got great discounts on DD's summer camp there -- it was fantastic -- and she loves the different classes throughout the year. Last year she took spanish, a water color class and an American Girl Doll craft/activity session.

I think it's the best place around for families and it's pretty inexpensive.

We go too and love it! I just wish our facility was a little bigger and had more machines! Monday through Thursdays are always so busy! We pay $52.00 for a family membership.

I joined mine a few months ago. A two adult membership, I am the only one that uses it but that's ok. I will do it when I have kids too, i think it's great!

Did you know that if you join the YMCA that your card is good at all YMCA's in the country. When I visit my dd at college I use their facilities to work out.

If you are road tripping, you can use any YMCA facilities as long as you have your member ship card along. Our membership just went up to $41 for a family, including my college kids.

Well, we just got back & loved it. We are going to join. They gave us a nice tour of the facility. I think it will be great for us, they offer so much. 90 minutes of free chilcare a day, a gym for kids, which my 8 yo will love. My 13 yr can go into the adult bym with me, or the children's gym by herself. They also offer parent's night out childcare, so DH & I can get out. On Sat night's they have a special teen night for kids in grades 5 through 8. They can hang out, play pool, go swimming, etc. I think DD 13 will like that, I don't let her hang around the mall by herself like many of her friends do, so this will offer her more opportunity to get out at night.
DS 8 has had a fear of getting his face wet since he was little, they have a special swimming class for kids with this fear. I thought that was great.
I was amazed at all of the classes they offer. :)

We have been a member for about 6 years. Right now we just have a Wellness Center (weights and classes only) but they are building a full Y that should open next summer. Our company sponsored the opening of the Wellness Center so we get a 20% discount plus our co. pays up to $20/month for a gym membership to promote healthy living.

That's a good deal. :) Now if they'd just hook the DIS up to one of those tread mills, I'd be skinny in no time! LOL

I have a question, since I've never BEEN to a YMCA.

Do you HAVE to pay to go in, like at a health club? Or is it a 'suggested donation'?

I'm just curious. They are supposedly building one in one of the new shopping centers that's on my way to work.

I don't know if they are all the same or not. Ours is a family membership for 63.00 a month. This includes use of the pool, gym, & gym classes. Additional classes, like swimming lessons, dance lessons & sports are charged at a discounted rate to full member.
I think the single membership rate at our YMCA is 31.00. I figured that since we are a family of 5, we are getting at bargain at 63.00. :)
