YIKES--I'm Having an MRI Today--Update Post #22

I had an MRI done last year for a herniated disc. It was not bad at all. You mentioned no contrast, so you don't have to worry about any needles (whew!).

The place I went to gave you the option of music headphones or these really cool "goggles" that allowed you to watch a movie! I chose the movie so that made things pretty easy to deal with.

You have to lay perfectly still (which is hard after 30 min or so) and there is a loud noise, but you kind of get used to it after a while. The noise is just the scanner moving within the tube.

Let me know if you have any other questions!!

I DID IT!!

It wasn't a piece of cake, but I made it through.

They put me in feet first, although I was all the way in. It was open on both ends. Towncrier--it was a Siemen's model. :teeth:

It took about 40 minutes. I didn't feel claustrophobic but my adenaline was pumping and did so for most of the scan (good 'ole anxiety for ya!) so it was uncomfortable in that regard. But I didn't feel like it was too "tight" in there or that I couldn't breath. It's actually much easier on me the scan I get for my thyroid cancer which is a gamma camera. That thing comes down to about a 1/2 inch above your face. Yuck.

Thanks for the little pep rally!! :goodvibes

Please tell me that it's a Philips gamma camera (although I have worked on Picker, Adac, and Summit Nuclear models too). I am responsible for the software that brings the detector within 1/2 inch (or closer) to your face.

Glad to hear that you made it through OK. :Pinkbounc

I'm not sure which model it is for the Gamma camera, but boy does that thing come close. I'm not even, shall we say, a voluptuous woman but they did have to stop the thing and "adjust" it when they got to the chest area. Made me feel good for a minute!! :teeth:

By the way, why the :earseek: when I mentioned that it was a Siemens machine? Good, bad???

Competitor!!! :badpc:

Do you happen to own a Philips TV? Philips DVD player?? Philips light bulbs???

(Can you guess who I work for?)

Believe it or not, the "problem" that you encountered during your gamma camera scan is one that I struggled with for several years (from the robotic software point of view). It turns out that the simplest model of the human torso is an oval. But that portion of a woman's torso is not ovid, so allowances have to be made. Sounds like you were NOT on one of the machines for which I have written orbit software. Sigh.

Okaaayyyyy....

No, I don't own ANYTHING Philips--I'm pretty much a Sony person (or should I say, my DH is). I could give a crap about any of it.

Perhaps you DH has a Norelco electric razor? Or maybe a Sonicare toothbrush?

OK - I'm done.

And I am truly glad that your MRI experience was tolerable (although you would have been much more comfortable in a Philips MRI). And you can't fault Siemens since they have taken over a large portion of the sponsorship of Epcot.

Okay, I'll fess up. I do own a Sonicare--in fact we have 4 of them!!

Christine, I am sorry that I didn't see this earlier today. But I am glad to hear things went well and you were just fine. Hope you get some results back soon and are able to finally get some relief.

Hi Christine,

See - told you it wasn't that bad. Well done, good for you.

Glad it went OK
