Yikes! How does anyone stay in a studio long term?

For 2 people (and maybe 2 + child), I'd only go for a studio at Old Key West or the Poly. For the other resorts, I'd strongly prefer a 1-bedroom.

For us, it really depends on the purpose of our visit. There is only DW, DS10 and me, so a studio would be fine most of the time. Although, we typically only do studios for stays of less 4 days, such as pre-cruise or a short stop on our way to somewhere else. We did do an 8 day stay in a savanna studio a few years ago at Christmastime, which was fine, since we were not in the room most of the week. We have stayed in studios at Kidani, Jambo, BLT, BWV and OKW. BLT was great for location, but it was our least favorite from a space/layout standpoint. We like the OKW studio layout, but we would probably prefer a sofa bed in place of one of the beds just to have a place to sit. The Kidani savanna studio is probably our favorite, although admittedly if we are staying in a studio at AKV, we try to get value rooms in order to save points, if possible.

For our long summer vacations, we always do a 1BR (or 2BR if we bring guests). We like having the full fridge and kitchen and the W/D, as well as living space to relax when not at the park or pools.

:p :rotfl2:Never heard that expression before, but I knew immediately what your were talking about.
It is so appropriate at times. :rotfl:

That's the best thing about that phrase. You can use it and anyone who has ever been to Disney (especially with kids) - whether or not they have heard the term - immediately understands it. :yay:

I think that's one that is dependent because I actually don't find the OKW studios roomy, because of the 2 beds. It's a plus for real beds but you can't achieve the room you can in others because there is no sofa bed to put away. Out of all the DVC studios it's the most comparable to a hotel room IMO because there's no sofa seating. It's my least favorite studio layout but can see it being good for those who do want the beds.
Staying in OKW studio first week of Jan. Our first stay in this type of room arrangement. For 50 points, I'll suffer through it :)

While OKW isn't our fav resort by a long shot that's how I felt about using 43 pts on one in September for F&W. :)

It depends upon the resort. OKW studios are quit roomy and have 2 real queen size beds.
.

I feel the exact opposite. I'm not a fan of the OKW studios. BLT is the only place I really feel cramped in a studio...but it is. I know the square footage of OKW studio is bigger, but the layout takes away from it, and the 2 beds instead of the ability to fold up the sofa bed takes away from it.

My kids are 10 and 6 so they don't take up a ton of space, but things like clothes and shoes MUST have their place and be put their or the room can get cluttered up real fast. We have stayed 9 nights in a studio before and are doing 8 this summer. We aren't spending a ton of time in the room. Resort yes...inside the room itself, not a ton.

When I travel solo, it's no less than a GRAND VILLA for me. I need my space!! :rotfl2: :stir::joker::rotfl2: (#TOGA!)
Some do, indeed! FWIW, I've realized that my parrot likes having his own room. I lived 28 years with that bird in a condo where he had his own room. When I moved him to our vacation home, where I'm now living full time, I placed him in the bedroom as it is on the far end of the structure, having less traffic running through it. The parrot demands that I shut the bedroom door so that he can have the room "all to himself." Leave that door open and it won't be long before he sounds the 'alarm'! You'll know .. he likes his dedicated space.

When DH and I went it alone it was for a vacation. After 10+ yrs we went to the parks every other day. Most of the days were relaxing on the balcony, reading and enjoying the weather. A one BR was a must. Particularly if it was March Madness or Football season. Two tvs saved my marriages!

Our family of 4 (kids 11,15) always stay in studios. We would rather travel more than use more points. We just became DVC members but we've rented points. Before DVC, Pop Century was our go-to resort. Different strokes. I also have no interest in cooking anything besides breakfast while on vacation.

Also a family of 4 (kids 11, 16) who does Studios for three 4 day weekend trips a year. One kid gets the fold out couch, the other a twin air mattress. We also don't spend much time in the room. We do continental breakfast in the Studio along with sandwiches for one other meal, then do one big meal out each day. Grandma comes along for the 4th weekend trip and we move up to the 1 bedroom. She has plenty of room to crochet and sip her wine- and she LOVES hanging out in the Community Hall while we go-go-go. When the kids are grown and gone, there'll be more time for relaxing!

I know of a couple in their mid 70's that stay in a studio in SSR every winter for as long as allowed...almost 2 mths.?..they eat out most all lunch and dinners...They are friends of a friend of mine....

Well goodness, my family always travels in a studio and never has felt cramped. Its my mom, sister who is 28, and myself who is 25. Once we even stayed with 5 people in a Animal Kingdom room. I guess we are use to it. We've stayed at BLT, OKW, SSR and BWV. Never a problem!

DH and I have gotten used to 1 bedrooms and I am not sure just how our coming up 5 night BCVstay in a studio will go.

It's the extra room where I head to read while DH watches TV as well as the laundry for bathing suits that have me getting 1 bedrooms when I can.

Just finished a stay with girlfriends in a BCV 2 bedroom, so I used most of our BCV points for that!

I once stayed in a studio for almost 10 days but I'm single so there's plenty of room for me. I can understand how a family might feel crowded.

If its just you and your DH, you will be fine. Anymore than 2 people, no I can't stay in a studio.

Just got to Saratoga Springs last night. Resort is lovely. We are in the springs section and I love the location. But with a teen it feels so small for the 3 of us! With the sofa bed pulled out there is just no room or privacy. I can't imagine stuffing 5 in here! We are only here two nights and then it is off to the Grand Floridian in a one bedroom so it is all good. But hats off to any one who can stay a week with their family in a studio!

I think for us the keys to success are getting and staying organized and the fact that DS is still young. I unpack right away, get the suitcases out of sight and keep the room pretty neat for the duration of the stay. Nothing feels smaller than a messy small room.

Also, for now, DS is small enough that he can sleep on the couch as a couch so we don't have to pull it out every night and put it back every morning. Someday that will change, of course. For that reason we actually have enough points to get a one bedroom for a week every year. But for now we use them to alternate between a studio one year and then a two bedroom the next so we can invite grandparents to join us!

We just spent 7 nights in 1 bedrooms, at AKV CL and HHI. A big plus to us is having real silverware and dishes. I do not really cook, but cereal and sandwiches taste better to me. We would be happy to wash them by hand. Would we be able to get these things from housekeeping?

Now we are retired, we can drive and bring what we need. However, for this trip, Tom and I flew down separately, and we rented a car to drive back to Ohio, so bringing things would not work on trips like this.

It's easy! We are a family of 3 (DS 18) and we stay for 2 weeks+ in a studio every year. We even spend a lot of time in the room.

We had a 1 bedroom one year. It was nice, especially the washer and dryer. But, we'd rather take a longer trip in a smaller room. It works for us!
