Yikes! How does anyone stay in a studio long term?

We just spent 7 nights in 1 bedrooms, at AKV CL and HHI. A big plus to us is having real silverware and dishes. I do not really cook, but cereal and sandwiches taste better to me. We would be happy to wash them by hand. Would we be able to get these things from housekeeping?

Now we are retired, we can drive and bring what we need. However, for this trip, Tom and I flew down separately, and we rented a car to drive back to Ohio, so bringing things would not work on trips like this.
Yes you can request the plates and silverware. I do laundry in the laundry rooms and never have a problem getting a washer and dryer ( do wash during the day though) . We'll be at OKW studio in January so this will be our biggest studio challenge as W/D are located outside of the buildings. You'll be fine at Beach Club :)

Thank you. Have yourselves a great OKW stay!

That's a perfect example of the type of things to keep in an Owners Locker! I don't keep real silverware in ours as I don't really cook beyond a quick breakfast & I'm fine with plasticware but I do keep sharp knives, scissors, microwave dishes & a small cutting board in ours. If you wanted "real" silverware you could pick up an inexpensive set for $10-12 at Target or something to leave down there for use in studios.

A studio would be enough space for us if they would replace the old sofa beds in resorts like SSR with the newer, larger versions we have tried in Aulani and BLT. NONE of us got any sleep at all trying to share that mangy sofa bed in SSR during our last trip. Actually, sofa beds are the most useless piece of furniture EVER. It's not comfortable to sit on as a sofa and it sure as heck isn't a treat to use while on vacation as a bed. What is wrong with treating the studios as a regular hotel room with 2 equally sized beds (and by that I mean queen-sized)? I guess the whole idea though is to bill the studios as accommodating 4 or 5 but then make it uncomfortable enough for those sized families that we have to pony up for a 2 bedroom so everyone can get a decent sleep. Our next trip will have to wait and be in 2 years' time because of this.

Welp, looks like we're the crazy ones! We're doing 3 nights in a DVC Poly studio and there's 3 adults and 2 kids.. Plan is two adults in the regular bed, one adult with the smallest kid on the sofa bed, and one kid on the hidden bed thing. My husband and I served in the military and can literally sleep in any condition.. But this thread has me thinking maybe we should rent some more points to get an adjoining room for the others. We won't be in the room much and we're pretty great at organizing, so I think we'll be fine. But next trip will be off season in a 1 bedroom somewhere else. I'll look into renting points if anyone has any points available in July ;)

I hated sofa beds 50 years ago when everyone had one in their living room/spare room and I hate them now.
Unfortunately, you and I are in the minority where we wish there were 2 regular beds in the DVC room (or at least a choice....no, I don't want OKW) but a sofa bed is lousy as a bed and worse as a couch.

Our DD's family could fit in a studio by the numbers....2 adults, 4 kids ,ages 17,11,7, and 1.......but how do you get all those people ready in the morning without stepping on each other and what do you do with all the luggage?

I was just planning this last night. Everyone's luggage will go either under the bed, in the closet, or in one of the bathrooms. Looking at the poly pictures, their bathrooms are very roomy and there looks to be lots of space under the bed! If we get a coffee table in our room, that is meant to hold luggage, too. Here's hopin'! I will also be bringing hanging shelves to put in the closet to utilize the space better as well as a large hamper for dirty clothes. And there's a bunch of storage under the sinks for toiletries, makeup, and whatever else fits. We can do this! We get back in July, I'll let everyone know if it worked out LOL.

Over time the room is no longer simply "a place to sleep/prep/turnaround" but part of the vacation experience. The room is our SANCTUARY and, thus, needs be uncluttered, uncrowded, and peaceful. That, to us, means larger units without the need to "schedule" morning bathroom usage, etc. In short, it really does need to function like our "home away from home" not like our RV.

I believe it will be the same for us after this, as well. This is our first trip as a family and we're staying pretty busy for our short 3 days. I'm interested to see how it works out for us. I definitely see us taking it easy next trip, so a bigger "sanctuary" will definitely be a priority ;)

I'd be interested how you make out. What are the ages of your kids? It sounds like your trip is out all day, sleep at night, repeat and then go home.

That was our trips many many yrs ago at the value resorts. Now we spent a day or two with no parks at all.

Learn to sleep standing up. :-)

they are actually plenty spacious compared to what you land on DCL for 5 people and luggage.

In Saratoga Springs and at the Grand Floridian, the beds are now blocked underneath. You can't put anything underneath.

That is a great idea and I am definitely going to add "real" silverware to our OL this next trip.

Depending on the room you can also pull the couch from the wall and store luggage there.

I'm one of those who hates a studio even with two people and more than that would make me miserable. I love the kitchen and the laundry. We have a lot of points at various resorts so we have the luxury of booking at least a one bedroom whenever we want. We are going in November right after thanksgiving for s week and have a two bedroom. We are taking my daughters boyfriend and had to have a second bedroom so one of them can sleep on the couch. Even when we are traveling and get hotel rooms if there are more than two people we usually get two rooms. My husband says I'm a spoiled brat! He's probably right.

While a one bedroom is nice we like our points to go as far as they can so a studio has always worked well for the 2 of us. Stayed in one for a month. No problems.

I don't think housekeeping will give you real silverware or dishes but you can always ask. We love our Owners Locker for storing all our "necessities" for us. We always have what we need and can pack less.

We bought DVC for the one and two bedrooms. The one time I switched us to a studio for the weekend to save points, DH decided to keep driving his old car a few years longer so that we could buy more. My boys are 17, now we only stay in one bedrooms if they have the second bathroom. Other than that, it is two bedrooms for us.

Ditto. We are a family of four. dd-22 amd ds-18. We will stayi in two bedrooms and not studios or one bedroom (how would that work for my kids)? Anyway, we have THVS booked between Christmas and New Years. A one bedroom was available at BWVs yesterday and they all said no! Ggggrrrr. To each his own. Usually my mom comes wih us so we absolutely dont do anything less hhan two bedrooms.
