Does anyone have any tricks in getting a stubborn 3 y/o to drink fluids because he hasn't since 5 a.m. I understand why he doesn't b/c he keeps vomitting. UGH! We leave on Wed. morning for WDW I hope the whole house doesn't get this.
Sleepless in ME!

Wait until he has not puked for 30 minutes and try one sip of sprite. If that stays down try another in 30 minutes - etc... When he is keeping the Sprite down then you can give him plain water popsicles - a little at a time. Take heart - this is NOT the 'flu' but a tummy bug which usually only last 24- 48 hours. Stash him in a room with a TV and his own private potty!! Everyone wash their hands till they are about to fall off and you'll be fine by Wednesday! :grouphug:

Put water or better yet pedialite in pop form and let them suck on it. They also have pedialite frozen pops premade but expensive. Also if it last more then 3 days take themin it could be a secondary infection. From the flu I got pneumonia. Was not pretty at all.

My kids would always take popsicles! Hope he gets better soon! We leave tonight, see ya down there:)

DD was really sick last year at WDW. We called my aunt, a peds nurse and she told us to give DD popsicles. Poor DH was driving around Orlando trying to find them at 10pm on Sun night. It worked, DD was able to have a little at a time and within a few hours was able to keep down crackers and soup.

Keep track of his urinary output. If he doesn't pee in 6 or 8 hours, then you shuld get him to the ER asap. Good luck, it is so hard when our little ones are sick.

DS is still pretty weak and sick. He has not wanted to have any fluids however he did have a popsicle for his Pepere! I am keeping a close eye on him. thanks for all the advice

When DD was sick she would not eat popsicles....too cold. We ended up getting her to eat teaspoons of unchilled jello....warm. GROSS but she wanted something warm and the ungelled jello did the trick. Good luck.

Sorry you have to go through all this -- we just did it earlier in the week. Just concentrate on LITTLE, TINY SIPS, one at a time. One tiny imperceptible sip every 10 minutes will add up into a decent amount of fluids getting in. If the frozen pops others described are a no-go, then try little chips off of an ice cube, just a couple tiny chips at a time. Just as above, a chip or two every 10 minutes or so will add up very quickly, and make the difference between dehydrated and not dehydrated.

Lastly, this has nothing to do with your question, and has nothing to do with helping your situation, but your child does NOT have the flu. Influenza is a respiratory problem. Your child has some sort of stomach bug. I know people use the term, but there's no such thing as "stomach flu."

I bet you'll all be just fine BEFORE you leave on Wednesday. :goodvibes

have you called your family dr? my daughter had a very bad stomach virus, could not keep any thing down for 2 1/2 days.ended up taking her to the childrens hospital and found out by blood work that she was very dehydrated.she had to have iv fluids.

Im sorry I dont have any more new suggestions for you, but just wanted to send pixie dust :wizard: your way for things to clear up before you leave and hope no one else gets it. We did the opposite thing. On our last trip my DS brought home strep with him. I know he got it from touching all those bars and things on the rides- yuck! Next time I will try and use the antibacterial stuff more often.

Pixie Dust to your family :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

ugh, I feel for you. we're in the same boat. My daughter has a bad case of croup (but isn't contagious anymore thank goodness), my son had a HORRIBLE stomach flu over the weekend (on his birthday no less), I've had a bad bad cold for the past 2 weeks and now my dh is sick again (he's the one who started all this though).

Hoping your son is better soon!

DS still is sick with the flu....ugh! Then last night he ingested a chemical that I left out.....ahhhh we were at the ER dealing with that. Wow I felt so horrible I have never done something like that before. I was cleaning up vomit and just left it on the counter in a different bottle...not the original container. Needless to say he is ok they induced vomiting....but boy I can't wait to get to Disney World!!! Thank you for all the pixie dust. I hope it helps. We leave tomorrow morning.

I am soooo glad that nothing more came out of the chemical ingestion. So sorry he is still experiencing flu symptoms. I sure hope he is free of them tomorrow!!! Healing vibes your way!

Don't misunderstand me....but I would not take it too kindly if a parent decided to fly w/their child still experiencing flu symptoms and I was on that same flight. They may not care about my child's health, but I do! I have heard reports of airlines not allowing sick children/adults when said person is ill??????

This isn't anything against "you" personally...I have the same concerns when people take their coughing/fever/vomiting children into my childrne's schools.

none taken.....I completely understand I do feel the same way. Good news for all others flying with us DS has been symptom free today. He is feeling much better and looking forward to seeing Pooh and Mickey. Thanks to everyone.
