I couldn't find my cell phone today and thought I had just misplaced it. I tried calling it about an hour ago and some stange man answered it. I asked him if I could have my phone back and he hung up. Well, I immediately called and had it shut off but was told I am responsible for all the charges made prior to reporting it stolen. I asked how many calls had been made and the rep said their system was updating so they can't see the calls but she could see that there had been 28 downloads today. What is wrong with people?

My DH lost his phone in Boston a few weeks ago but we knew pretty much right away.

We called it and no answer. Then we tried doing direct connect and finally we could tell they shut it off.

Well, we called Nextel right away and had DH's phone number frozen till he gets a new phone.

This person got pretty much nothing out of keeping his phone. It was in pretty bad shape too so he couldn't even sell it on ebay if he wanted to.

It's a shame some people are so selfish and evil. I'm sorry this happened to you.

I am pretty sure that I had accidentally left it in my car and it was stolen from there. (Don't ask me how he got in, I always lock my doors ) Anyway, he had it 1 day. 28 downloads in 1 day. He was a very busy man.

If you never downloaded anything previously- or did so sparingly- could you contact the phone company and have them drop the charges? Hopefully it's the $1.00 downloads and not the big ones.

So sorry. Hope you get all this sorted out. Was there anything else missing from the car?

I didn't have anything else of value in the car. My stereo was stolen about a year ago and I didn't replace it because it was the second time it had been stolen so I didn't want to keep supplying the theives. I need to get out of the neighborhood we live in. This kind of crap happends all the time. My car is too old for me to justify buying an alarm (plus we don't have the money).

I am going to try to get t-mobile to drop the charges. If they don't I think I will cancel. I have only downloaded 2 ringtones in the 5 years I've had their service. I obviously didn't do 28 downloads in a day.

My DD's phone was stolen from school, we didn't realize it until a week later (she wasn't using it that much). I called Verizon & they said I was responsible for all the charges to the point where I notified them, but in the end they split the cost with me. The person made several calls & spent a lot of time on mobile web, along with downloading various things. I filed a police report, but they ended up not being able to do anything. Frustrating!

The absolutely STRANGEST thing happened to me at Universal Studios a few years ago...I was carrying one of those HUGE Spiderman bags with the giant Spidey on it (while I was at U.S.)...I sat it down and sat in a chair at City Walk. I called my DS' to tell them where DH & I were sitting..near Margaritaville and proceeded to put the phone back in that huge bag next to me on the ground.

POOF GONE, just like that...(the cell phone)...

I went to use it a random few minutes later and NO WHERE to be found. Mind you, I am one of those people that generally NEVER misplaces anything, I never lose anything...it is a definite obsessive/complusion of mine that whatever is mine to be responsible for I KEEP GOOD TRACK OF...anyway...my DS says to me..."let's walk around and look for it"...we do that = NOTHING...my other DS says..."let's call it"...we do and a MAN answers...he says HIS SON found it and if I want it back $25.00. They were staying at the Portofino Bay and we were staying at HRH!! They proceed to tell me it will be at the front desk. I would not go, my DH and one DS went over there and got it back BUT can you imagine we even gave them (the desk clerk) an envelope with $25.00 in it.....STRANGE..huh..

In the same vein, somebody stole my pager. It was just a plain old, basic doctor pager. It had my name and number on it. I know I dropped in the hallway between my office and my car. I actually went back ten minutes or so later to look and it was gone. Too bad for the thief I was on call, so, the stolen pager was turned off and I had a new one within an hour of losing it. The new pager cost me $50, so it was nothing special. It was old, and probably worth maybe $5. The battery compartment was held on with duct tape. The clip was broken (probably why it fell off). I really sweated it, however, the time I later dropped my wedding band in the same hallway. That time, an honest person found it and put it up on the chair rail.

The same thing happened the my SO and I. He must have dropped the phone (his work phone) when getting out of his car and some guy picked it. I called it and was shocked when someone actually answered the phone. The person on the other line could hardly speak English, but he did understand Cops and meet at 7-11!!! My SO and his neighbor met the guy at 7-11 down the street and got the phone back.

While I didn't have your specific issue, T Mobile was great about reversing a download. I'd downloaded a ringtone-a half hour later, it hadn't been recieved. So I did it again-and again.

When I explained, they reversed and were pleasant about it. I'm sure that seeing that you've frozen that phone and the d/l's happened in the 24 hours prior to it, they will work with you.

T Mobile is very easy to work with! Just tell them your phone was stolen, point out that you can't be bothered to download anything, much less than 28 in a day, and I would be very surprised if they don't immediately drop those charges for you.
My son had gone into Sears a few months ago and accidently left his phone at the checkout counter in the tool dept. Someone must have grabbed it right away as Sears didn't find it. We went over to T Mobile to replace the phone (it was just 2 months old at that time) T Mobile should have charged us the extra money for the new phone, but waived the charges altogether! Nice surprise as it saved him about $100.
Love T Mobile and thats why we stay with them as they are great to work with!

My dd lost her phone at her university once. I called it on my cell and some guy answered it. Turns out he was a very nice and was already trying to find the owner. He told us where he was on the campus and we met him and picked it up. He'd already went through her phonebook and called the one labled 'home' and left a message on how to reach him to get the phone back before I called her cell and got a hold of him.

I would call and ask them to look at your history. They might just drop it.

We had an incident with an old cell phone where we thought we had misplaced it. Never did quite figure out how it got stolen but anyway it did. we were going to let the contract expire and it was close to that so wasn't too concerned. I didn't know it until we got our phone bill for something like $150.00 where as our normal bill was extremely less than that (something like $20). I called immediately when I got the bill explained the situation. They went back in our history saw that it was totally out of character and we didn't have to pay those charges. This was eons ago though before every kid on the block had a cell phone, so they might be a bit stricter with their policies.
