Yet Another Split Stay Question

We have our first slit stay coming up in April, so I am new to the process.

I saw where someone posted an issue with a split stay and I thought maybe some of you could help me figure out the best way to do this. The issue related to having to check out at the front desk of the first resort before getting a room assignment for the second resort.

Our first stay is at YC for three nights. Then we go to Boardwalk Inn for three nights.

What do you think is the best way for us to handle the transfer of luggage between these two very close hotels? Is there a fee associated with doing this, or do we just need to store the luggage in our car then drive over to Boardwalk?wou

I would like to avoid bell services altogether if I had the option, simply because I don't want to have to be without our luggage for hours, and I don't want my mom stuck in the room having to wait for luggage to be delivered. I have these images of myself rolling my luggage down the Boardwalk, but I am guessing they frown on that.

We hope to use Stormalong Bay for a few hours the morning of our transfer, then head over to Boardwalk before changing clothes to head to AK for a few hours.

Should we just pack a bag with our clothes in case our room is not ready and/or the luggage does not arrive in the room timely?

How early are the split stay rooms typically available? Would it be possible to get a room at Boardwalk as early as 9 am so we can go ahead and do the transfer before going to Stormalong Bay? I don't want to check out Yacht Club too early, though, and then find we are without a room for several hours. Based on what a previous poster said, we might not be able to check into Boardwalk until we have physically checked out of Yacht Club.

What would you do? We are trying to maximize our time at AK, but I don't want to leave for AK until we have a room at Boardwalk (all reservations under my name, but my mom will be staying at the resorts all day and I don't want her to have to deal with luggage, etc.).

Would you request early check in at Boardwalk, or would you request late checkout at Yacht Club? Hm. The latter might be easier, come to think of it.....

Any ideas?

Bell services can transfer luggage for you for free. Personally, with a car, I'd just keep it with me.

Could you get an early BW room? Yes. I've always gotten in early morning on cash reservations. No guarantees they could do early in or late out at yacht.

I'd rather keep it with me, I think, as long as I don't have to keep it with me too long. I hate waiting in the room for bell services.

We did a split stay from the Poly to the BC. We had 2 rooms. One was ready by noon and the other was not ready until 3. I would not plan on it being ready. We sent some of the luggage with Bell services and some we took ourselves but we had a lot of luggage since we were 8 people.

If you swim and have a change of clothes you can put the wet suits in the car and then go to AK.
We love the EPCOT resorts. Enjoy!

That's a good idea. I am trying to make this whole transfer thing work as conveniently as possible.

I really wish I could find a way to fit in AK some other day besides our transfer day, but with all of the other things to work around, I just can't seem to make it work on any other day. It would be easier to do HS or Epcot on our transfer day. There are always so many aspects to factor in when it comes to Disney planning.

I thought the new policy was that they would not deliver luggage to the room unless someone was there. Is that not the case?

That's a good idea. I am trying to make this whole transfer thing work as conveniently as possible.

I really wish I could find a way to fit in AK some other day besides our transfer day, but with all of the other things to work around, I just can't seem to make it work on any other day. It would be easier to do HS or Epcot on our transfer day. There are always so many aspects to factor in when it comes to Disney planning.

I would go to AK on the transfer day. Swim then change and head to AK. Then when you get back from AK your room at the BC will be ready. Maybe the YC will give you a noon check out (it can't hurt to ask) - then you can change in the room.

Anytime we used Bell Services to change rooms - they said we had to be in the room for the luggage to be delivered.

Yes, it is. You can always call them & ask them to deliver once you arrive, though.

I'd rather keep it with me, I think, as long as I don't have to keep it with me too long. I hate waiting in the room for bell services.

You don't have to wait a long time in your room for bell services. When you are in your room just call them from your room phone and they will bring it over. You decide when they bring it. But you do have to be in your room. As far as cost... You would tip them about two bucks per bag when they bring it to you. It usually isn't available until very late afternoon. Your room might not be ready until 3. There is no guarantee. Just pack a day bag with swimwear etc. check out is 11 so you could be homeless for about 4 hours at the most. Just plan on it. Have lunch by the pool. Relax in the lobby, stroll the boardwalk, take the water taxis. Explore the Swan and Dolphin. Read a book in a hammock under a palm tree. 4 hours will go by fast. Enjoy!

The "tip" is already figured into the price WDW pays Mears for the ME service.

It's customary to tip Bell Services so you need to be in the room for that.

We are doing first night at Wilderness Lodge and then moving over to the Contemporary for the remainder of our stay, so we were hoping to breakfast at Whispering Canyon and then just go over to MK for the day, heading to Contemporary late afternoon when we know our room would be ready.

Yes, Bell Services will hold your stuff at resort #2 until you are officially checked in and physically IN your room.

Just call bell services from your Contemporary room phone when you get back from MK. They will deliver your bags. They won't even have your bags till very late afternoon anyway.
