Okay, we are starting to get back into this again, and dd seems to have taken a *bit* more interest than last time. She will be 3 in March, so we just need to get it done!!

Here is my problem/question for all of you veterans. DD is in underwear for the whole day while we are at home, with the exception of naps and at night. What do you do when you are potty training and you go out in public? For example, dd has 3 classes at the park district each week (tumbling, dance, etc.). Should I keep her in underware for that? I guess I'm afraid that she would have an accident in the middle of class, since that is the type of environment that she would be having too much fun, or she'd not want to ask, etc. (I also won't be able to prompt her during this time to see if she has to go.)

So what to do? Does putting pullups back on everytime you go out set them back? I don't know how else to do it without limiting the times we go out. Being a SAHM, we tend to go out a lot, grocery store, OBGYN appts for my pregnancy, etc. That's a lot of time away from the house.....

Help! Any suggestions? :confused3

I really don't like pull-ups so we always brough a lot of extra clothes for my son. We've had accidents pretty much everywhere and you get through them - most times its not running down the legs and puddling on the floor type stuff - it just makes their pants wet and you have to change them - similar to when they were in diapers. It was really no big deal looking back on it. It went on for a long time - their bladders are not mature enough for a while to tell them whne they have to go in enough time to get them to the bathroom - that is why you do have to do the prompting a lot.

Take her prior to the class and hope for the best, but really don't worry if you have an accident - almost everywhere has a bathroom you can change in and it only takes a second.

I don't like pull-ups either. I just always made them go right before we left, anytime we walked into a building (first stop bathroom), ask several times throughout. Classes are no more than an hour, right? I think she'd be okay. Just go right when you get there and limit the drinks before you go.

I'm not a big pull-up fan, either, and I tried to avoid them as much as possible with my ds10.

I agree about limiting her drinks and taking her to the bathroom beforehand. Do they have a little waterbreak for the kids? That'd be a good time to take her to the bathroom, too.

I think inevitably there will be accidents--that's just the nature of the beast. ;) But by having her wear underwear both at home and out, you are showing consistency of expectations and reinforcement of her past training. I remember worrying about ds when we went out the first few times in undearwear--but more often than not, he came through. I bet your dd will do the same! :)

Good luck.

What if you tried pull-ups over her panties? That way, she's still wearing underwear and will feel the wetness, but you'll only have to change her panties and won't have to clean the floor.

Best way is to have her wear underware and make sure you have extra clothes.
If she has a accident, then she does. All part of the training.

I agree. Pull ups were the worst thing we did during potty training. I should have just bit the bullet and let them have accidents, it would have taken a lot less time to train them.

I think Emily would still be using pull ups for nap and nights if I let her!

Hi Melissa!! :wave2:

With Stephanie I used to put her underware on first and then her pull-ups on over that when we were out in public. This way, she can still feel the accident w/o the mess.

Good luck!!!
