I worried Ive made the wrong decision. We will be at POR June 15-20. We have DD6 and DS3. Frome everything I've read It seems POFQ is best for small children. Last year we stayed at ASMO and the kids really loved it. This year I was able to upgrade due to codes. As of last week I could stay at either POFQ or POR. I'm sure hoping some of you will be able to give me some input.
I know that some have said the bus stops at POFQ first, not leaving much room for POR. Is it possiable to walk to POFQ and catch the bus there? Or is that a big NO NO and to far for my little ones?
Thanks for any help you can give!!
Kim

I think walking to POFQ from POR would be too far, especially for little ones. I vaguely remember taking leisurely strolls in the evening from POFQ to POR along the river & it was a good 10 minutes. (Or is my memory getting fuzzy?)

Little ones need to rest up their young little legs for long park walks! :D

Personally, I still think that the ASMovies is the best pick for children, although your kids will LOVE the Serpent Slide at POFQ! My DS was only 4 when we stayed there & thereafter we always stayed at ASMovies & he still talks about the slide at POFQ!

Have a good time!

I have stayed at pofq with a small girl scout troop. We have girls of all ages from 5 to well you know. Anyway, all the girls loved this resort. Everything was easy to get to and the theming was fun. They loved the pool and the food court. I have never stayed at all-stars but it sounds fun too. The only difference I have been able to really see is that the rooms are bigger at pofq and that makes a difference for me. Have a great vacation.

Thank's for the info. I called WDW today and was able to change from POR to POFQ. I hope I made the right choice.

I think you'll be happy with your choice. The resort is a lot smaller than POR, but you don't sacrifice a thing. You are allowed to pool hop between resorts, use your mugs at either resort, etc. The food court is a lot bigger at Riverside, but FQ had great choices and many love the beignets.

I have stayed at POR for my last 2 trips, some of the rooms are a good hike to the food court! Next time we're going back to FQ. Would be happy at either, but I think you made the right choice for your group!

We loved our stay at POFQ in Nov and have ressies for the end of April. I'm going with my mom and brothers (10 and 5). We loved the closeness of everything at POFQ. We were a few steps away from the food court and the pool (building 5). The boys loved watching the movie on the big screen while eating an evening snack in the food court. We went to POR a couple times and found ourselves saying how glad we were to stay in a more compact resort. Access to the main pool and playground at POR were fun too. The walk from POFQ to POR didn't take as long as I expected. If you really dragged your feet it might take 10 minutes. Once we "raced" back on the path while my mom drove from POR to POFQ and we beat her back to our room. POFQ really is a great resort!!

I have 3DD's-6,4,1. We stayed at the movies last year and are staying at POFQ the first week of May. I'll let you know how it goes when I get back.

We have stayed at POR twice in the last three years. We have NEVER had any trouble getting a bus -- our longest wait was 6.5 minutes (DS age 6 timed it). The advantage is that the resort is so quiet and peaceful that DS and DD would literally wind down on the brief walk from the bus to our room. Seconds later, sound asleep!

We're going back in October, and we're afraid to stay anywhere else, because our POR experiences have been so magical!

We just stayed at POR and be sure to visit the main pool there if you get a chance. DS really enjoyed it.

Also we caught the bus at various places around POR and never had a problem with space. But POFQ is a lovely resort and you do get dropped off first which can be a nice perk. Have fun!

We've only stayed at POFQ, but with kids about the age of yours. They loved it! The theming of the pool area is just right for this age group and none of the walking is too much for them.

Never stayed at POR, but my sister did once and she hated it.

You'll be happy at POFQ. We stayed there several times when my DD was younger. When she turned 7, we moved over to POR and now that's our favorite place. I truly believe POFQ is better for younger children. The play area is geared toward the young set. POR's is for bigger kids. You'll also appreciate the small size of POFQ.

We, also, have never had a problem getting a bus at POR (although I am a little jealous of the POFQers when they get off first).

I think you'd be happy at either resort, but with your childrens' ages, I think you were wise to switch to POFQ.

We stayed at POFQ when we did our first land/sea vacation. We loved it. The pool was great for my DS (5 at the time), the walks were short for where ever you had to go and the bus did fill up quite full before reaching PORS.

It is a bit of a walk to get to PORS, beautiful but maybe long for young kids.

I am always the first one up and ready to go in the morning and I loved to walk to Sassagouls Floatworks to pick up fruit and juice for everyone while my son and wife were getting ready. It is a short and peacefull walk at around 7:00 am.

We will be staying there again on our next stay. We will spend two nights at POFQ and move over to the Polynesian for our land/sea vacation coming up. First time in a deluxe, it's my wifes 40 birthday and she wanted to move up to a veranda package this time.

Good luck choosing and I'm sure you will have a great time which ever resort you stay at.

We loved POR- and we never had trouble with buses (maybe once on our very first day but never again). We would always pick up the bus from the first stop (right in front of the lobby). Like I said the only time we waited for a bus was coming back from the MK and it was because we had just missed the previous bus.
One of the things we loved about POR were the quiet pools. We used the main pool during the day but at night it was nice to go right outside our building and use the pool. There were lots of families at POR and everyone seemed really to enjoy themselves.
One other thing at POR was that every morning when I went to get breakfast there were bunnies and ducks outside our room. I loved that.
I also liked the convenience of having Boatwright's. I love the food court at POR but one night when we didn't feel up to much it was nice to have that sit down restaurant right there. They even boxed up our dessert for us when we were too full to eat it right at the restaurant. POFQ does not have a sit-down restaurant.
Also, (I keep remembering things as I write them down) POR has a nice marina to rent watercraft from. You have small children but you might want to rent some sort of boat- POFQ no longer has a marina
(Your kids might also enjoy the pole fishing from the main pool area at POR.)
I would request a room in the central buildings (we stayed in AB- and loved it) and when you get there if you don't like the location ask to change it.
If you have other questions let me know- I think you'll have a great time at POR
Dana

I have stayed at both with young children. We prefer POFQ due to the small size and convenience. It is a much shorter walk to everything- food court, bus stop, and pool. While Riverside is beautiful, POFQ is just more convenient with small children.

I love reading yet another POFQ or POR question! I will be staying at POR with DH and DD3 in May. Both POR and POFQ were recommended, I was concerned about the amount of children at POFQ so I opted for POR. I heard it was more tranquil at POR and the pools look just as nice there too. This is our first family vacation (although DD and I were there last year and stayed offsite) so I want some R&R also! Do you think DD3 will need a stroller to roam between POR and POFQ? :smooth:

Yes, bring a stroller! It is a bit of a hike and those little legs are going to get a workout when at the parks. Rest them when you can. :)
