Yet ANOTHER Photopass CD question.

You can "renew" the pictures on the card by having a photo taken on it every 29 days, but they don't guarantee that for more then 4 months. Although when I was there in March someone was checking their photos, doing the photo once a month to make sure photos didn't go away, and he had photos from September still on his card.
Is this really the case? It's great if it is, but I thought I read somewhere that the individual pictures start to expire if they're not claimed within the timeframe of when they were taken. So if you were on a two-week trip, you only had another two weeks to claim before your first pictures start expiring.

Is it really 30 days from the date of the last picture on the card?

Thanks!

you have 30 days to claim the card, 30 days until the photos are deleted. there are however glitches with the system and deleting photos. you are promised 30 days with the photos, no less. you may 'luck out' and get more. when i used it in may, a few of my photos actually lasted until december. there's no rhyme or reason for it.

it's an interesting theory though. since i am near NYC WOD, maybe this is something i can experiment with. although i'll be better off finding a WDW photopass card since NYC WOD's are paper.

They should really keep this for a longer period of time than 30 days to accomodate busy people and procrastinators like myself. :upsidedow

We went in February -- I logged in yesterday to find only 1/3 of my pictures there. I had every intention of buying the CD but forgot (was busy with a ton of things to do when we got back). Now I'm not so sure I'll spend the $125 for 30 pictures.

I've already registered at the PhotoPass website, even though I've not gone to WDW yet. I wanted to 'play' with a photo to see what my options are.

Once I upload my PhotoPass card, will there be more borders and stuff? Right now, all I get are about 5 borders, in different colors. Definitely not worth 125 bucks!

Thanks in advance...

the borders you get when uploading your own photos are not the same as the regular photopass ones.

The $125 is not for the "borders and stuff." The $125 is for the CD (it's actually only $99 if you pre-order). The CD will have ALL of your PhotoPass pics on it, including the original, unaltered versions, and any that you choose to add borders or graphics to.

The idea behind the CD is that you can take your PhotoPass pics, either the unaltered originals or those you jazz up, to ANY place that prints photos, and have then printed at a much lower cost than at the PhotoPass site.

The pics on the PhotoPass CD are full-size JPGs, directly downloaded from the PhotoPass photographers' cameras. They are not encrypted, not copy-protected, not messed-with in any way, so you can do anything with them that you could do with your own digital pics, including adding your own borders or graphics in Photoshop, or re-sizing and cropping them for digital scrapbook projects, re-sizing them to post online or email to Aunt Marge, use them in your screen savers or as desktop wallpaper, or anything else you want to do with them.

That's what the $125 (or $99 if you pre-order) gets you. The borders and graphics provided on the PhotoPass web site are more like a freebie thrown in to sweeten the whole PhotoPass system. Some of the graphics are very nice (I particularly like the Haunted Mansion pics with the ghost in the carriage), so folks tend to fixate on them as though they were the main course. But they're just gravy; the meat-and-potatoes of the PhotoPass system has always been the pics themselves - pics of you, your family, your friends, etc. having a good time together at WDW, with everybody in the pics.

I went to the photopass site and read about the photopass CD and thought I was clear about how it worked. But after reading this thread, I am confused again.

I preorder a photopass CD today, I take my trip May 21-28, I log on and 'claim' my photos on June 1. What are the 'official' expiration dates? Thanks

If you claim your pics on June 1, they will expire and be deleted on July 1 (30 days).

However, as Brad said, sometimes they are not 100% prompt, and you might get a few extra days.

My question is about viewing the pics at WDW. I understand there are places around the world that allow you to take a peek at the pics you have had taken by the photopass photographers... right?
If I go my first evening to preview my pics does my 30 day clock to expiration start then so when I get home 10 days later I only have 20 days to play with borders, etc. on the web page? Or does the 30 day clock start when I log on from home?

Thanks!

I have another photopass question. Is there a limit to how many pictures will fit on the CD? Also, are there Disney photographers at character meals? Also, can the CD be copied for backup? The originals tend to get lost in my husbands mound of 1,000 discs.

1) You can subscribe from the tread tools menu at the top.

2) I have been told, from someone who said they were a cast member, that viewing them in the parks has no effect on the account, or timers. It is stricktly claiming them from home that starts the SECOND 30 day timer. The first 30 day timer starts when the picture is taken. ie 30 days to claim them at home, then 30 days to make any orders you may want.

3) There is an unlimited number of photos that can be ordered. There of course is a limit on the CD, but Disney will keep making CD's for you until all of your images (and edits) are archived. There is no additional charge. So you pay for "the CD" but you may actually get 2 or 3 or even more.
- There has been talk that the system struggles when putting more than 999 pictures on 1 CARD, but that is a HUGE amount of pictures and any photographer will give you an additional card at your request. Each CD holds approx 300-400 images.

Last year, we lost a photopass and awesome pix of Snow White and granddaughter. I learned that if you know approximately where/when the pix were taken, and what you were wearing they *might* have some luck locating your shots. Unfortunately, I found out about 35 days after our trip...so they were gone with the 30 day policy. Thanks, good idea to take a digital of the barcode number. DDIL lost the photopass, so it will be hard to let her hold them again next month.

I'm new here, but we leave in 12 days!! Ten of us, I can't wait!

You can buy it in one of three ways:

1) Pre-purchase from the DisneyPhotoPass.com site (this gives you a $25 discount off the normal $125 price)
2) Buy it at the parks before you come home ($125, at one of the 4 PhotoPass viewing stations)
3) Buy it online after you get home ($125, from DisneyPhotoPass.com)

I always recommend buying it online, because you can take your time and add borders and graphics to the pics before the CD is sent.

Pre-purchasing, if you know you're going to buy the CD, is a nice way to save $25.

we go to wdw in 3 weeks and a few days is it to late for me to order the photoopass? How much extra are the borders and enhanctments?

Not too late. Go ahead.

Borders and enhancements are free, but the software for adding them is not part of the CD, it's part of the PhotoPass web site, so you need to add your borders before you finalize your CD order.

You can even order it the day before you leaveif you want. After you order it, you get an email with a code in there.. DO NOT LOSE THAT CODE!!! I still have the email, but i have also printed off 2 copies of the email.

Can any of the pictures on the rides...for example...splash mountain photos, can that be put on your photopass card? Also, what about at the special parties can those pictures be applied to the card? We are going to the MVMCP if that makes any difference.

Thanks!

PhotoPass is only on Test Track. Disney was supposed to add it to other rides starting in spring 2008, but so far, nada.

PhotoPass photogrphers are out in force at MVMCP. I've seen them set up with tripods in such places as the Partners Statue, Rose Garden, Crystal Palace, and several places on Main Street. And they are elsewhere, too - I just can't remember them all at the moment.
