I appologize if this has been answered before, but here goes....

I have only flown a few times, and the last few times were direct. I also have not flown since 9/11. My question is this: When we do our layover and switch planes, will we have to have all of our carry-ons and ourselves rechecked at security? I am guessing yes, but hoping no :rotfl:

Thanks for your help!! You guys are great!

At most airports, 100% of all domestic connections involve arriving and departing from within the secure area — even if you're changing concourses, changing airlines, or changing terminals. So you don't pass through security at your connecting airport.

At the hub airports where I connect — Atlanta, Denver, Dallas, St. Louis and others — I've never had to exit from the secure area and pass back through security.

There are rare exceptions. For example, at Los Angeles International I had to pass through security when I had a connection involving two different terminals — that was around eight years ago, so I don't know how it is now. Also, connections from international arrivals to domestic flights at Chicago-O'Hare require you to pass through security. I assume that's typical when arriving at an international terminal (not just at O'Hare), passing through US Customs and Immigration upon arrival, and then continuing to a domestic connecting flight.

Thanks!! That makes me feel better. Since I am taking my 2 children (7 & 10) alone, I was worried about the hassle of the security checks! :goodvibes

Philadelphia used to make you do this, when switching airlines (or switching from code-share to non-code-share). I'm pretty sure they've fixed that.
