Yet another MYW Dining question...

OK, so I was looking at the menus for the table service restaurants, and I've heard that the MYW dining package is basically $35/day per person, but Disney doesn't say anything about it on the official website (that I saw). So here's my question: Can people go hog wild with the menus and order the most expensive things, then walk out without having to pay anything extra, or do they keep some sort of tab on how much actual money you've spent? Does this make any sense to anyone?
DH and I have a MYW plus dining package booked..so far, the only ones I've seen say they saved money are the ones with family..its just me and DH..worth it?

Worth it?? absolutely.

Go hog wild on the menu, you can order whatever you want!!

My advice, to get the maximum benefit, avoid the buffets!! You will end up paying the same with the plan as you would paying out of pocket at the buffet's.

If it is just you and DH, plan to go to the nicer of the non-signature restaurants.

I highly recommend it, just get ready to loosen your belts a notch or two!!

Well, you can't get whatever you want. 1 app, 1 dinner, 1 desert

Good question. The plan does say the meals are for you to use as you wish, in other words you can use them all in 1 day or through-out the length of your stay, as long as it is at participating restaurants. I saw nothing about menu limitations when we booked our trip. Maybe I missed it, but I think anything is fair game. We are planning to "bank" our sit down meals and use them for "signature dinners" to get more bang for our buck. It only makes sense to pay for the cheaper meals and use the plan for the other. Even with doing it this way we figured to only save $200 which we will easily spend elsewhere in the parks I'm sure. Which there may be the "magic" to it all...hmmm Imagineer that one :wizard:

Curious to see what everone elses thought are on this. We like the plan and think it is worth our wild, but we do think it is not right for everyone. After our trip we may feel different, but it makes sense to try it especially for us with the math showing us coming out ahead!! This was in another post yesterday http://www.themouseforless.com/tripplanning/discounts/myw.shtml

The 1st paragraph (from above link) says it best "but like anything else you need to do a little research to make the plan work for you."

Looking forward to hearing other thoughts on this.....great question!!!

Yes - you can order the most expensive things. (1 appetizer, 1 entree and 1 dessert)

No - Disney does not keep track of the exact $ amount you have spent just the number of credits you have used

Certainly, the plan can be a $$$ saver for you and your DH

Here is the official Disney guide for the MYW didning plan:

I say eat as many sit downs as you can and stay away from the buffets. My husband and I are going to share some of the meals at some of the fancy places. There is no way we will eat 2 appetizers, 2 meals and 2 desserts. This way we only use 2 credits at nice places instead of 4 credits. princess: princess:

Princesslulu - what a wonderful idea! Especially for non big eaters! I have been trying to find out about how hard it was to find counter service meals on this plan. Looking at the brochure, the counter service places accepting the myw plan were very limited. Half the places in Epcot don't accept it (or atleast were not listed in the downloaded brochure). Any thoughts?

I think the age of everyone in your party is a big deciding factor on whether or not to order the dining plan. My DH and I are taking 4 teenaged boys and a teen girl...we will get our money's worth. :mickeybar

awesome news...DH and I were eyeballing Yachtsman Steakhouse...LoL :rotfl:

Fyi...The Steakhouse counts as 2 meals per person.

I have some questions about the plan as well. We will be a party of three; DH, myself and DD (6yo). We will stay 4 nights at Contemporary and 4 nights at AKL. Can we have the MYW package only for one 4 nights stay or does it have to be for all 8 nights? Can DH use his "points" at a meal and I would share some of the meal with him. (for example share appetizer and dessert but get my own entree). That way our points might last longer. Also, do you keep track of the points yourself or can you get an update throughout the trip? What are the best values at WDW with this plan? (if you can, please give $ amounts saved)

I had all of these same questions and more and quizzed several CMs about the plan before finally booking it for our trip.

Aristomommy - I had most of the same concerns you do.

Can we have the MYW package only for one 4 nights stay or does it have to be for all 8 nights?
I was told that you can shorten your plan rather than have it for length of stay but that everyone in your room has to be on the same plan. For example, my agent gave me the choice of 3-night or 6-night for our 6-night/7-day stay. The only thing is that you can only do the plan for the number of nights you are staying regardless of the number of days.

Can DH use his "points" at a meal and I would share some of the meal with him. (for example share appetizer and dessert but get my own entree).

It's only myself and DH going on our trip and there is no way we can both eat an appetizer, entree and dessert. I asked if we could use one "sit-down" meal option and purchase an additional entree and was told by multiple CMs that there is no problem with that. You will need to tell the server when you order that you wish to do it that way or they will have issues.

Also, do you keep track of the points yourself or can you get an update throughout the trip?

Apparently, your point balance prints at the bottom of every receipt you receive when you use your dining plan. You can also ask for a report from Guest Services at your resort at any time. When you check in, all of the credits for all three of you are pooled together and placed on your "Key to the World" card. You should be able to spend them however you see fit from that point. For example, your DD gets sit-down meals also. It would probably be cheaper for you guys to use her sit-down meal options for one of you and pay for her meal because she most likely doesn't each much anyway. If we had young kids, we would probably be doing it that way also.

The MYW + Dining will end up working out to a good deal for us. I am saving our points by only using 1 per regular sit-down so we can do some signatures like Jiko. We are also planning to use 4 of our meals for the Spirit of Aloha show. After I use 2 for Jiko and DH orders his own entree and we do Spirit of Aloha, we will still have 6 more sit-down meals to spend.

Even though I haven't been yet, I would still recommend + Dining. It sounds like it will be a fabulous $$ saver, especially if you use your credits wisely!

What are the best values at WDW with this plan? (if you can, please give $ amounts saved)

I would love to hear a response to this as well. Also, which Counter-Services are the best? Did anyone try resort-hopping for counter-service meals?

I will be traveling with the MYW dining plan later this month. We will be eating some meals with people not on the plan later in our vacation. Do you think I can I use as many credits as I want at a sit-down meal? For example, if I want to use a credit for someone not officially on the plan will it be ok? Disney SEEMS to be saying a person is free to use credits any way he/she wants once they are all pooled together so it seems this would be ok......We have no small children on the plan, just one child who counts as an "adult". She is not a big eater, though, and I was thinking I would pay for some of her meals and save a few credits when we are joined later in the trip. I don't want to do this, however, if it is not ok. Also, I would guess that it does not really matter at all for Counter Service meals...I should be able to order as many or as few meals as I want at the counter and just use my credits as I see fit. Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Yes, you can use your credits any way you want- you could give them all away to other folks if you wanted to! :teeth: You can order as many or as few meals as you want whenever you want. Just be sure to tell your server when you sit down what you are going to do, and there will be no problem.

Pepper Market at CSR is a good deal for Counter Svc meals- they have a really big selection, and some substantial entrees for counter svc. $$$-wise, it would be a lot of 'bang for the buck'!

The new Tomorrowland Terrace Noodle place looks like it will be a great deal, too. Big portions and "real" food, not just burgers.

The newly redone Sunshine Season food court in the Land pavillion looks like there will be some great choices, too.

One of the Disney online brochures said that some entrées may have a surcharge. I think that was referring to some DTD restaurants. I wouldn't count on the lobster being included at Captain Jacks for much longer.

Not to hijack the OP's thread, but I have a couple questions:

When you get extras over the allowance (wine, extra dessert or extra kids meal), do they give you a seperate bill?

Also, with the kids meals (counter & table service), Do they also get a dessert?? I would think so, but it doesn't really say. I just don't think my daughter will be too happy seeing every eat dessert except her :confused3 !

Thanks for the help!

Hi, Katie!

You will get a seperate bill for the 'extras' that aren't covered by the Dining plan.

Everyone on the plan, adult or child, gets a dessert with their counter svc meal. Also, everyone gets an appetizer, entree, dessert, and drink at table svc places. Kids 3-9 must order off the childrens' menu if available, but they get their own appies and desserts. If none listed on the kids' menu, then they order from the adult menu.

Thanks Jen! We usually book everything seperatly, but the Dining package will actually be a great deal for our family, so we decided to go with a package.

Hope they keep it around for there 2006 packages. I like to have as much stuff prepaid as possible.

Thanks again!

We are going on the dining plan with 2 adults and 2 kids - we will be joined by 2 other adults for a couple of days who are not on the plan - can we go to dinner and use the 4 sit-down meals for the 4 adults and pay for the kids?
