How do all of you guys who have dogs, keep your yard looking good? I have yellow spots all over my yard and I can't stand it. I tried keeping her in one spot, but when I put her on her dog run, she goes in other spots. Then she got tired of going where she was. Then when it rains, she has a hard time going because nothing smells right to her. I have a ton of yellow spots and it annoys me. Love the dog, hate the spots.

What is causing the burns is nitrogen released in the dog's urine. Female dog burns are usually worse because they squat and deposit the urine all in one spot. Some things that can help:

1. Use a high-quality dog food. If more protein is absorbed, less Nitrogen is released.
2. Stop fertilizing your lawn with Nitrogen-based fertilizers. Since there is already nitrogen in your lawn, the dog is piling up even more, which makes the burn worse.
3. Follow the dog out and spray water over the area immediately following her release of fluids. Immediately diluting the urine will help.
4. There are a few products out there that can be added to food or given as a supplement that are purported to help reduce the amount of nitrogen being released into the urine, so you can try those.

Bottom line, the best things are to spray water every time and reduce the amount of nitrogen from fertilizer.

Thanks for the info. I really had a nice yard before we got her, but now it is awful. It is so yellow. Can I get it back to normal or is it gone for good?

Just wait until next year. You'll have round patches of the tightest, greenest grass patterned around your lawn. :lmao: Seriously, I use a quality food, and don't have the problem with two dogs.

I have 5 dogs...2 girls, 3 boys...no issues

ETA: You can always bring her to the neighbors yard...thats what someone on my street does..LOL

Our dog does this too, BUT it is worse this year bc of the weather more than the dog urinating. We live in NY and well over half our yard is brown bc of the hot weather. Maybe u can have the dog go in the same general area if possible.

Those od you who have no issues, what brand of food do you feed your dogs? We also have yellow spots, plus the smell of dog urine in the yard is icky too.

Mine actually comes from the feed store..I either use 4health brand, or I use Taste of the Wild...both are sold at Tractor Supply

If you find something that works let me know! Our dog is now 4 and our lawn is beyond saving. We tried the supplements (several different kinds), they didn't work. We feed him high quality food, we tried hosing it down, but we can't always be there when he pees. Our back lawn looks awful and I have given up!

The yellow spots eventually turn into mud pits in the winter...not very good for running on or playing bocce ball!
