Ours was great! Like a PP, my mother wrapped it tight, and it was an awesome cake to begin with (the baker used a French butter, which has a lower melting point, and fresh vanilla beans in the frosting, which was very thinly applied).
We didn't save ours. Our bakery gave us a coupon to order a free cake top on our one year anniversary. We enjoyed it so much we went back every year on our anniversary and bought another - even after we moved 40 miles away. We'd still be doing it if the bakery hadn't closed.
My cake was apple spice and I've never found another bakery that could duplicate it. I make it at home some years but it's not the same.
We saved it for the year and I thought it was wrapped pretty well - layers - wrap & aluminum - then in a tupperware container. I thawed it in the fridge for a couple days before our 1st anniversary. It was a memorable moment with us both giving each other a look of you try it 1st and trying to see which one of us would actually bite the piece 1st It did NOT taste good and ended in the trash but it was a funny moment. I have some good pictures of our top tier and plan to have it re-made next year for our 10th anniversary.
Ours was boxed up but we sat in bed and ate it one night while still at Disney. There was no way we were taking that through security and home on the plane. It was so yummy!
