Am I the only one that thinks this promotion is just a bad idea for Disney parks? I mean think about it, part of the "magic" of Disney is having pixie dust come from unexpected places, not from cast memebers that are put in no win situations. I mean for every one that gets a castle night, there are 24,999 other people at MK that day that are disappointed.

Don't get me wrong, the prizes are cool and who wouldn't want to win a DVC membership or one of the other 1 in a million odds prizes. But think about it, wouldn't it have been better for Disney to do this without a formal promotion? Think about the publicity of people being blindsided with with these prizes?

Thoughts?

There are a lot of people who won't know about the prizes and in any case no one "expects" to win at any given time, so won't that be nice?

How is it different from any other contest?

I don't expect that CMs will be distributing any less pixie dust because of the promotion. Those wonderful CMs who do little things every day to make guests visits a little more magical will continue to do so. There will just be a little more pixie dust floating around :wizard:

Yes...yes you are the only one LOL!! :teeth:

I think the promo is terrific and if DH and I weren't already planning to be there during the "event" we sure would have! foudn a way to get there. We'll be there in November and I would love to be picked or at least see someone get picked. how cool is THAT? I love seeing other get unexpected pixie dust.

After reading the list of prizes, we would LOVE DVC the most.

The whole point of "promoting" this is to get MORE people into the parks...more guests = more money made, and somewhere in the middle of all the business people are receiving fantastic prizes! In my opinion, everybody wins!!

princess: :wizard:

1) The "Dream Squad" has fifty CM's assigned.
2) But the number "may" be increased.
3) The CM's are in training now - look for the new costumes.
4) They will give away most of the wishes.
5) Manager's will give away the big wishes.

NOTE: To make 1-million wishes in the year, they must give out 2740 per day.

I can't wait! Of course, I'd be thrilled to win myself, but honestly, to see someone else win would be almost as exciting - that's part of Disney! Maybe we should start a thread/sticky that will track how many DISers win!

Actually, doesn't the promotion start on October 1st of this year? So, if you include October, November and December of 2006 and all of 2007, they need to give out 2,188 wishes per day.

Ok, call me lazy today, but I haven't done any research on this. Can someone in a nutshell explain how you can win? Is it just at MK? Do you win by just walking around and someone comes up to you?

Being at Disney and seeing my DS4 meet his fave characters is magic enough for me. We are going mid October and while it would be great to win a DVC membership or a Golden Fastpass I am just happy that I am getting a vacation with my family.

That is a great attitude to have! If you don't go in expecting to be chosen, then you won't be disappointed if/when you don't. Personally, that'll probably be the last thing on my mind when I'm there. Would it be nice to be picked? Sure, but I'm not going to dwell on it.

Well, for every resort guest that gets unexpectedly upgraded, there are thousands who aren't. For everybody that gets a towel animal in their room, dozens do not. For everybody that gets picked for opening ceremonies or parades, tens of thousands do not. Personally? I'm not into the communist "everybody has to be equal" thing.

There's an interesting thread going on in DVC Mousellaneous about the impact on the CM's. I would NOT want to be one of the CM's involved in this promo. As wonderful as it would be to see a guests face light up when I give them a dream, I wouldn't want to have to deal with "we were right next to them, why didn't we get something??" and all the other whining that will go on. We've all seen on these boards how people get crazy if the slightest thing doesn't live up to their expectations, can you imagine what this is going to bring??

That's the idea that most of us will go in with, but you only have to be at the parks for a few hours on a crowded day and you'll see the kind of entitlement mentality in action that will make this promotion a nightmare.

ok tom just did the math, 1.5 wishes per minute, 91 per hour! LOL hes such a dork, but I love him!

Looks like we will miss out. We leave on th 1st. But we will be back in May so maybe!! :wizard:

The only way I can imagine anyone being disappointed that they didn't get a prize is if they only came to the park because they expected a prize and, well, that would be really stupid of them since we all know that only a few lucky individuals will win.

I'll be at the parks in October, but I'll be there for the fun of it and with no expectations of being a winner. I figure I'd be incredibly lucky just to by chance witness anyone getting a prize (wouldn't that be fun?!?), much less actually getting one myself. It's a long shot and any reasonable person knows that. Unreasonable people who go away disappointed have created their own misery by being illogical.

I don't think it would be a letdown at all. Like another poster stated, it is a contest, just like any other and it is all luck of the draw. I think it's great that Disney could come up with a way to get more people in the parks and also make some lucky people's dreams come true.

I think the perfect word to describe this is LIFE. I like to think of it as an awards show, it is an honor just being nominated (being there), win a prize or not, it is still a win win situation. You're at Disney!!!! I would love to win either the DVC membership or Quest for the West vacation. If I don't win, c'est la vie. Like others have said, i am in the most magical place on earth with the people I love the most in this world, can there be any prize bigger than that? I think not.

Agreed. Good for Disney and good for some lucky people! :cheer2:
