What are your opinions on the best way to do this?

We'll be staying at YC for the first time in 2011 and I'd love to take DMom over to AKL in the early morning (or stay later into the evening) to drink coffee and watch the wildlife. We will have a car but am wondering what our options are.

Can we just drive up to AKL without breakfast/dinner reservations?

How early/late can we get to/stay at AKL if we rely on Disney transportation and how long might our journey take us?

Would be grateful for any/all suggestions :)

if you drive just tell them you want to go to the gift shop or get some coffe they will let you in but might give you a 3 hour pass. since your staying a yc i would walk or take the boat to dhs in the moring and take the bus to akl they should start runing around 7 and at night take the bus from akl to dtd and transfer to the yc thier you will have til 2am. by bus it might take a 20-30 in th moerning from dhs and 30-45 at night with transfer it might take longer depend on how many people are using the bus. it might be better to drive to say you want to get some coffe and shop at their gift shop they will let you in just be ready to show your room key or id.

Don't know about the parking rules.

In the morning, you can take the bus from your resort to AK, and easily get a bus from there to AKL. Let the driver know you are going to the Lodge; s/he may be able to take you there directly. If not, it's an easy transfer, and buses run frequently from AK to AKL in the morning. I think the first bus from your resort is around 6:30. Just reverse the route to head back.

In the evening, head to any convenient park that's open to catch a bus to the Lodge. After you arrive, you can stay at least as late as any park is open; as long as you're on the bus back to the park before the park closes, you'll be able to transfer to YC.

If all of the parks are closed before midnight, you could still take a bus to DTD until at least midnight. I'm not sure what time regular service from the resorts to DTD ends, but servive from DTD to the resorts runs until 2 a.m.

Thanks for your responses. :)
Disney transport is definitely the better option for us I think, but 3 hour parking could work out well too.
