Yay or Nay?

I don't care if everyone else hates it...I love it, so I'm makin' it! If people want some other version of green beans, they should tell me so I can fix that too, or bring their own. Either way there's going to be green bean casserole on my table at Thanksgiving. So there.

LOL! Amen sistah!:woohoo:

No, not really. Truth be told I haven't had it alot probably because my parents' both don't care for it. I have had it maybe 3x and its okay.

Good for you!! You're clearly a woman who knows which "slippery slope" she wants to ride on!!! :thumbsup2

Enjoy!:goodvibes

I've always like it but only on T'day;) My SIL is in charge of this particular veggie and has subbed out asparagus instead of green beans and everyone loves it:thumbsup2

MIL has always alternated between the green bean version (BIL's fav) and using peas instead (DH's fav). I like the green beans fine, but I love the peas! You make it the same way - with cream of mushroom soup and french fried onions - just use frozen peas instead of green beans. Soooo yummy.

What does the slippery slope of green bean casserole lead to???:lmao:

Eeew. I don't think I want to know the answer to that question.

You know, it's weird that I like it, because we never had it when I was growing up. We always had spinach madeline and oyster dressing with sweet potatoes and mashed potatoes. We never had macaroni and cheese, either. NEVER. The 1st time I ever had green bean casserole was at my DH's Godmother's house. They had peas, too, which was weird for me.

We also like to do a green bean and artichoke heart casserole that's very good. Oh, and we always have soup. (I'm the soup girl, LOL)

We all love it here, but with cut green beans, not the french ones-they just get mushy. DS18 often made it for an after school snack even. We will have it for Thanksgiving.

It's funny that you would ask this question. We have always made green bean casserole for Thanksgiving. One day we got on the subject of green been casserole and realized that nobody in our family really liked it. We had made it because you always see it mentioned on Thanksgiving menus, and we would each take a small spoonful because it seemed like the right thing to do. Come to find out, none of us really like it. We have declared this Thanksgiving to be green bean free!!!

Its funny you ask this. My mom and I were laughing about this today on the phone. A couple of years ago, my mom, my aunt and I were doing the annual planning of Thanksgiving dinner and divying up the dishes we were going to each bring to the family dinner. So when we got to the "green bean casserole part" my aunt says, "One of you can bring that, I just can't stomache that stuff!" My mom replied, "Oh, I don't ever eat it either but I will make it since everybody else likes it." So I said, "Um....not me. I don't like it and my family (DH, DDs) won't touch it." After talking to some other family members we found out that NO ONE in the family likes it. Some will eat a little to be polite but most pass right by it. Funny thing is, it was at EVERY single Thanksgiving that we could remember. So from that point on, we just did regular green beans or some other vegetables.

Cut to this year: My family (DH and DDs and I) is living far from "home" these days. We will be having Thanksgiving dinner with friends instead of going home for the holidays. As we were doing the menu planning, my friend says "Oh, we need a green bean casserole! Do you want to be in charge of that?" I said, "Errrr.....sure! I can do that. Does your family like that?" She said, "Well, I don't love it but we always have one." :lmao:

I guess I should have read the entries before I posted my response below. It looks like your family and my family think alike. That's funny:laughing:

I don't know if I should be embarrassed to admit this, but I've never even had it. I grew up in a part of Brooklyn that was deeply Italian, every vegetable I ever ate growing up was sauteed in garlic and olive oil, or breaded and fried. I still hold onto those traditions to a degree, most vegetables we eat at the holidays are cooked in some form of garlic and olive oil, or served cold in a vinegar, oil and italian seasonings dressing.

No casserole here either. We serve southern green beans with bacon and sauteed onions.

Those are Easter green beans, silly!

Oh - the shame of it all.....:guilty::guilty::guilty::guilty:

LOL.. Actually that sounds kind of good to me - and well as someone else who mentioned substituting asparagus..:goodvibes

Green beans with bacon and onions are my DS's favorite. I'd never cooked them that way until we moved to North MS. Glory greens are the same way here, as far as I know.

 Sounds like you had the exact same conversation we had!! I wonder how many families put out the green bean casserole "just because" but really don't care for it.
