Yay or Nay?

I make my own. All homemade. No canned soup for me! It is yummy and gobbled up every time I make it. I'll try to dig up the recipe and post it.

Repulsive slop.

Now, nice fresh, lightly steamed green beans with a touch of butter and maybe some garlic or thyme, those are delicious. But anything with canned cream of yuck soup is disgusting.

I may have to try that. Sounds good!
It is.

Toast some walnuts.
Fry up the bacon until it's very crispy, then sautee the green beans in the bacon fat.
Then toss the bacon & walnuts in with the green beans and right before you serve it, toss in the gorgonzola.

The best part is, you can do it all the day before and then just reheat the beans in the microwave. Don't put the gorgonzola on until right before serving though.

Nay!

never had one I actually liked!

I don't cook the stuff, just have it when others have made it.

It is too mushy, salty, and blah. I think I MIGHT like it if I had it made with fresh green beans and a nice fresh sauce instead of throwing canned beans in with soup!

My family never made it, we were more likely to have a corn mushy type of thing - I don't make that either, but it was still better than GB casserole.

:)

Nay!

We never had it growing up and I have never made it myself but what I have tried, I did not like.

I've always like it but only on T'day;) My SIL is in charge of this particular veggie and has subbed out asparagus instead of green beans and everyone loves it:thumbsup2

Took me forever to find your post - LOL.. So, is the asparagus the only substitution she made in what has become the tradional "Campbells Soup" recipe?

I'm thinking I might like to try that sometime..:goodvibes

I had never tasted it until the first year DH and I weren't able to go to his brother's house for dinner as we usually do and I made dinner for us at our house. I decided to try a recipe for it that I found somewhere (not the canned soup one), well I ended up loving it so now it's a must at every turkey day! Dh likes it too but none of my kids will touch it.

Definitely "Nay".

I'm anti-casserole (any casserole, not just green bean).

Nay for us. Only Mom's World Famous Green Beans for us! So named by my DS19 when he was 5 or 6. And yes, he loved them then but even more so now as a college student 2 1/2 hours away from home(cooking). DDad won't eat casseroles either as mentioned by PP.

I love green beans - fresh, frozen, canned - yum!

But that slop....

Nope, no way, yuck :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Its funny you ask this. My mom and I were laughing about this today on the phone. A couple of years ago, my mom, my aunt and I were doing the annual planning of Thanksgiving dinner and divying up the dishes we were going to each bring to the family dinner. So when we got to the "green bean casserole part" my aunt says, "One of you can bring that, I just can't stomache that stuff!" My mom replied, "Oh, I don't ever eat it either but I will make it since everybody else likes it." So I said, "Um....not me. I don't like it and my family (DH, DDs) won't touch it." After talking to some other family members we found out that NO ONE in the family likes it. Some will eat a little to be polite but most pass right by it. Funny thing is, it was at EVERY single Thanksgiving that we could remember. So from that point on, we just did regular green beans or some other vegetables.

:

Same here...we've ALWAYS had the classic green bean casserole. About three years ago we discovered that nobody really liked it all that much; it was just a tradition. Most people would take a small spoonful, but nobody wanted seconds or wanted to take home the leftovers. It usually went into the refrigerator for about a week before we heaved it.

Its replacement is sauteed asparagus with garlic.

Pumpkin pie and canned jellied cranberry sauce is still a must, however.
