hi everyone! :wave2: i just booked our october 2012 trip at pop century with free dining! i've been reading as much as possible on this message board about that resort (including ALL of the FAQ threads), and i studied the resort's map. :surfweb: this is what i requested:
1. standard room
2. 4th floor
3. 80s section
4. end room (near the rubik's cube stairway)
5. near the 90s parking lot.

i was hoping POP experts could tell me if they think that is a good location for quick access to the buses and food court and also if it's a quieter area? we are both decently fast walkers and are accustomed to walking long distances (we both lived in nyc before), but i have heard conflicting reports about the time it takes to get to the buses and food court from the 80s wing. any help????

i requested that room because of its proximity to the buses and food court and because i'm a kid of the 80s. :p I asked for 4th floor because many DISers have suggested that floor for less noise. it will just be me and my fiance, no children. we don't want to hear a bunch of kids either, so that is why we wanted to be far from the pool. granted, most kids will probably be at the hippy dippy pool and not the 90s pool. we also don't really care about views from the room since we will hardly be in it.

i have noticed on the threads that no one seems to request an 80s room. um, am i missing something? :confused3

thanks! :worship:

We spent 8 nights at Pop in May. It was our first stay and we loved it! We had a preferred room in the 60's building close to all you mentioned. Loved this location. It was also very quiet. The preferred rooms are close to the food court, pool, and usually busses. We liked staying at Pop so much we are going back in september. They have a great variety at the food court too. We especially loved the sweet tea.

Oh no 80's is a terrible spot! It's super far away from the buses, main building, and pool. No fun at the end of the day. Ask them for a spot in the 70's on the top floor! Even better would be in the back of the 70's building facing the lake facing and the new art of animation hotel. Still close but not too close with all the kids at the pool. That was such a good spot! Always very quiet.

We have stayed in the 90's section, facing the parking lot. While it is quiet, it's a walk from the buses. And it's looooonnnnnngggg after a full day at the parks. Since you don't have any kids, and you can handle the walk, I'd say it's a good request.
:thumbsup2

We have stayed in both the 50s and 70s. Theme wise, I like the 70s better and generally request that. The last section I would want would be 80s/90s. JMO!

We stayed in the 80's section and did not find it far from the bus. Just cut across the parking lot.

thanks everyone for the replies! i find it hard to believe that the 80s room at the rubik's cube stairway and on the edge of the 90s parking is far from the buses. i've looked at satellite views too, and you can just walk across the parking lot. seems quicker than having to walk the actual paths. also the symbol for the food court is at that end of the classic hall. i know there are buildings that are closer, but i'm not really interested in staying in the 70s because it is too popular of a spot. i really do want some quiet.

i've stayed at mgm in las vegas and had no trouble getting to the strip in 5 minutes even though most people complain and say it takes 20. i'm still conflicted about my room choice because i've read other posters' reports that say it took them 5 minutes. i've never seen someone say it takes longer than 10. i think i am going to keep my room for now. once we arrive and can actually see the distance, i might ask for a different room when we check in. i hope i'm not wrong and cursing my room by the end of the first day!!! :rotfl2:

it'll be nice this time because we get to take disney transportation to and from the parks. in the past, we drove. just walking through the parking lot and finding your car was a longer walk than it appears to be from 80s building to bus area. ;)

looking forward to more opinions! :hippie:

Seconding? Thirding? Whatever... the 50s or 70s instead! We asked for another room when they put us in the 80s because it was quite a hike.

Actually you are correct you can just cut across the parking lot making a short trip to the bus stops from there.
