Not happy. for me Tinker will always be the white, blond bombshell that inspired Walt. I am all for inclusion etc..... honestly at this point I have a feeling disney executive are thinking its their responsibility to make up for systemic racism.

and no I am not racist or closed minded.. but once disney starts changing the classics I get upset. In this sense I am a traditionlist.. why mess with perfection. I have zero desire to see this.

Ok so they weren't represented in Walt's classics. Walt is dead, his classics are a part of history like it or not. It's the year 2020.
How about Disney comes up with new ideas and characters that represent more races. Instead they throw the SJW's a token.

Then keep your classics. Nobody has taken those away from you as they still exist. Nobody is forcing you to see or embrace the new ones. But yes, it is 2020 and things should change with the times.

But there is nothing wrong, or "tokenism" about letting little girls see somebody who looks like them on the screen. How does it hurt either of you to change it?

You can both claim it isn't about color, but it absolutely is. Instead of seeing that an amazing actress, who actually fits the part well, you both see a black actress taking something away from you. So yeah, it is a problem.

FWIW, Tinkerbell is far from perfect. Also, she's a cartoon character.

Why should the race of a fictional character matter? If you don't think Tinkerbell should be played by someone who is African American then don't watch the movie. This is not a Disney issue.

As long as she has the iconic blonde bun and resembles the character she's playing....but I'm sure she won't and that's fine, they can do what they want, no one's forcing me to watch.
For me, if you're going to do it, you have to do it across the board. If an actor is just an actor then it goes EVERY way, not just one way because when it's one sided, there's an agenda. If we're truly talking equality then equal it must be. I'd be much more likely to be on board if it were a real gesture and not just pandering. Timing is everything here.

Margaret Kerry was the original model for Tinkerbell. She did not have a blonde bun.

History shows that when Walt was alive almost all movie characters were played by white actors. If a character is Latino then the actor should be Latino. If the character is Black, then the actor should be black. If the character is based on a fictional character that nowhere in the original book describes the race or ethnicity of the character, the character should be whatever race/ethnicity of the best actor who auditioned for the part.

There is no agenda here. Tinkerbell is a fictional character who I personally feel should be purple because she is a pixie - a fictional character.

The race of the actor matters when the race of the character affects the character's story. Tinker Bell is a fairy, her race doesn't matter.

Luke Cage being black and poor and Danny Rand being white and rich do matter. Their differences in race and class are a big part of their storyline, characterization, and interactions together.

All this being said, I'm still probably not watching this. Because I'm sick of Disney remaking their own movies.

Out of all the remakes confirmed I think Snow White will be the one that has the most controversy. I'm all for inclusiveness but is it wrong to want Snow White to be white since its part of her character description? I wouldn't care if the dwarfs were multicultural but I think Snow White shouldn't change. Actually if the dwarfs were multicultural that could be another story line of why they were seen as outsiders in a German fairy tale and how accepting Snow White is to all people. I think that could be a great message Disney could show kids. Thoughts?

Yeah, sometimes they turn out like you envisioned and sometimes they don't. People have always had issues with characters appearance. Remember when everyone flipped out over the guy cast for 50 Shades? Chicks were livid that he wasn't a red head. It's always been a thing. Harry Potter had green eyes, Daniel Radcliff had blue, people griped. It is what it is.

I couldn't have said it better. If you were to recast The Falcon or Nick Fury with a white man, or Frozone? Not only I would have a meltdown, but I can assure you the entire world would too. These are fictional characters too. Go ahead, try to recast them. lol It's completely narrow minded and a sign of the times when one immediately jumps to thinking "racism" when it comes to anything to do with black and white. When BOTH races can give up traditionally cast roles without there being a MAJOR uproar, only then will there be equality, at least in Hollywood. One sidedness is not being equal no matter which way the scale tips. It's sad, that if you don't sit back and smile about it, in all it's one sidedness, you're automatically admonished. I'm ALL about creating new and exciting ethnic characters! But don't try to change those 20 years from now either.

I am sure it will be cute and she is seriously beautiful but I know where I live it isn't cool to be blonde, should be brown or black haired, or lightest skin look like the Kardashians or Snookie. My niece who is a reddish blonde dyes her hair black bc she wants to be part of that, but it looks terrible and it is also kind of sad. Do we need to change all of their looks. Havent all of the Live TV versions so far been POC? Little Mermaid, Cinderella, and Tinkerbell. What other ones have there been?
