Yankee Candle on Undercover Boss

I love this show but I always forget to watch. I think I will call home and leave myself a reminder message.

This totally wouldn't work in my company. Our boss started out with a small business and turned it into a multi-branch public company. He's done everything and been everywhere and knows the business top to bottom. He already knows what the Dirty Jobs type peeps in his company do, because he's done it!

I also use to work for a company where the CEO loved to tell everyone that he started working as a dishwasher in kitchen at 15 to support himself and his family, never got a HS diploma and never looked back. It helped that he was in an industry where degrees are looked upon as necessary tools for some jobs, not as a requirement for hiring for any job, and experience is worth far more than degrees for most jobs.

If we had more people at the top like these guys, America would be a far different place.

Finally a company I'm interested in! I'll definitely be tuning in tonight.

Is this at the big Yankee Candle place in MA? I go there all the time because it has a similar feel to WDW.

well, sometimes its good to drop back into those positions to see any errors done...

My old boss who also started down the ranks who was on top didnt know this and that until actually working again with us before realizing what needs to be done on his end.

IE, cappo cart, we been asking for a new can opener for months... one day, the broken can opener finally shatters and we got nothing left to use... only way to open it was to poke holes around the rim and wedge it off. so boss find out that the cappo cart wasnt serving mocha drinks, goes to cart tries to open the can himself, spent an hour with the tool we are given... next day, brand new can opener sitting on the cart... XD

as for Undercover bosses, theres only one episode that brought tears to my eye. the season primere this year, where the CEO pays off the guys mortgage after a selling a business and him and his wife had to work 2 jobs...

Heh. Funny how things happen, isn't it? :rotfl:

I've worked for guys who come from old family money and were never made to do real labor for themselves. Nice people, very nice, in some cases (others were. . well. I invoke Thumper's law). But some were completely lacking in any sense that the underlings were real people or that their jobs were in any way difficult, or that they might have lives and families etc. It was just. . .weird. I had a friend who worked catering to some of the 1% when she was in grad school who used to tell me stories about these folks that just. . .:scared1:. Some of these folks honestly think they're back in the feudal days; they are convinced they are our rightful overlords by dint of birth.

At least someone like your boss who came up through the ranks, might have become lacking a bit in understanding what you faced, but when he had to do it himself, he "got" it, and he had the humility to send a good can opener the next day!

I for one also did it too... When DCA created a system where we carry snacks into the WoC area, we call them "Hawkers." Many times, we found them lazy and not walking around so a lot of us were really strict on them. Well, that changed after i did an entire shift as one of them. Its HAAAARD...
So one day i walk up to the cart that has these Hawkers and caught one standing there, they know how strict i am so this is how the conversation goes...

Me: what u up to?
Hawker: Albert, i know what it looks like, im just resting my back for a second...

before-
Me: well, hurry and go sell!!!
Hawker: okay... :(

after:
Me: okay.
Hawker: what? *in shock*

:P

why didn't they just glue a mop on his head? It would have looked better than the wig he was wearing :rotfl:

I just watched the Yankee Candle ep and I really like the CEO. He wasn't nearly as clueless as some! ;).

I'm so blessed to have the greatest boss ever. He pitches in and does manual labor all if the time. It's not unusual for someone to compliment us on our awesome delivery guy and when they describe him or give me his name I always smile because I know they never realized they were talking about the owner and president of our company. :goodvibes

And the generosity shown by the CEO's on Undercover Boss pale in comparison to him. I used to pray to have the opportunity to work for such a person but I didn't think she/he existed. So glad I was wrong! :goodvibes

The last store segment was my store! I was on 3 times, I had my 5 seconds of fame. On Undercover Boss LOL!!!

Yes the red curly wig was insanely funny. We thought he looked like Carrot Top!

Yay, Tara! The valley's newest TV star :cheer2: Were your boys excited to see you on TV?

My boys couldn't have cared less. One didn't even watch it yet!

I can't believe how many people watch Undercover Boss. Our store was PACKED this weekend with fans just looking to meet Dan. He came over last night with a bunch of employees so we could watch it together & he said someone recognized him twice this weekend outside of work & asked for his autograph!

There are a few oddball fans too - one guy came in while I was working & had his mom in Las Vegas on his cell & made me talk to her. He said she was the show's biggest fan & wanted to talk to someone who had been on. He wouldn't leave the store & just kept talking about the show forever. Another lady came in to see who my hairdresser was because she saw my haircut on TV & liked it (literally 2 seconds of it)...nuts!
