Pete,

I agree 100% on Y&Y. The restaurant has a nice theme, but the food is mediocre at best and way overpriced. We won't be going there again either. We do have an ADR at Tusker House for our next trip.

That review scared me so much I changed and booked Ohana. LOL.

That speaks volumes because I am not crazy about Ohana but my son will like it. So bascially I am forfiting a dinner for entertainment value for my son. But that food sounded way scary.

I didn't hear the podcast, but I disagree. We loved Yak & Yeti--it was the second best meal of our trip last September--everyone cleaned their plates. The portions were huge and we could not eat dessert so we took it back to our rooms with us as we were leaving AK for the day anyway.

I went there when it first opened, and had a meal at the bar. It was very good...not the best I've ever had, but certainly not the worst. It wasn't all that pricey then, either....or not that I remember...memory's the first thing to go, you know.

I am wondering if it is the case of when it first opened it was under stricter management and quality was better controlled. That is when Kevin and John ate there. Now it has been open for a while and maybe quality isnt all it should be. I honestly think my biggest issue with this place is the time of day you have to eat there. If I am going to have a mediocre meal I want some sort of entertainment and at a time I can live with. So that is more so my reason for changing. Petes review just put the nail in the coffin so to speak; I was already on the fence about the place. I can just go get the Dim Sum basket for lunch and not waste a TS credit. Now my son can play at Ohana and I can live with the chicken wings, shrimp and breadpudding. I will just need some advil to get past that screeching lady.

I guess I didn't pay attention to the price when we were there as we were on the dining plan. All I know is that I normally don't eat this type of food and I loved it. But everyone has different tastes and preferences and expectations. A lot of people love Hollywood & Vine and you couldn't pay me to eat there again.

I will say, I have only eaten once at Y&Y. And I didn't pay. I had the Shrimp tempura and the fried wonton dessert. I enjoyed it all. The service was OK, our waiter was trying to deal with 2 and then 3 of us and a very large table behind us. I will agree the food is expensive but I was full and I had no problem with the food at that time. We ate there the Wednesday before Mousefest.

We went just after the Y&Y just opened. And I loved what I had. I had the Duck and it was really good.

But I am wondering if the resturant was on its "best behavior" as it was only open a month or two when we went there. So it must have settled into its normal pattern, which sounds bad as more and more reviews are negative as of late.

Now for the Counterservice portion of the resturant, I think is bad. We ate there (Counterservice) last trip and it was way over priced for standard Chinese food.

Pete - We recently went to the Y & Y counter service restaurant and we weren't just disappointed: we were actively grossed out. I ordered the honey chicken (similar to what you had, I think) and was so disappointed. It was $8.50 and overpriced at that.

We went there hoping for a change from burgers and chicken strips, thinking that the food would approximate the local Chinese take-out at home. It wasn't even that good.

It's too bad b/c the Animal Kingdom can use some more good food options.

On the flip side, it provided a subject for one hilarious rant!:thumbsup2

we were there this past July for lunch and enjoyed the experience.
we were sitted upstairs towards front of the building, overlooking the walkways and enjoyed people watching. it was a nice relaxing time for us and we saw all kinds of people. The food was Disney price, but I don't remember it as being sky-high. and the food wasn't the greatest thing we had, but we were not disappointed. The service was fine and friendly. In my opinion we would do this again and I feel that the upstairs windows are a hidden Disney treat. we had an OK lunch with a great seat to watch other dis'er walking below. It for us was a nice, quiet mealtime with a great timeout from the rush.

Pete I agree with you 100% ::yes::!
We ate here in December one evening, and I had the skirt steak entree with the shrimp tempura but the steak was raw inside. I don't mean really rare either, the thing looked like road kill :scared: . I sent it back but it came back like they hadn't even tried to cook it further. I felt they should have given me a whole new plate of food but it just looked as if they hadn't even tried to re cook it.

We won't be returning.

We tried Y&Y during our last trip, it turns out good. :thumbsup2 We will try it again, hopefully it turns out same as our first visit.

Have a nice day everyone. :)

DH and I had lunch here in October and enjoyed our meal. We were on the dining plan so we didn't pay as much attention to the price as we might have otherwise. Our only complaint was that our server seemed very keen on upselling: cocktails (ok), more cocktails (um, one was enough at 1PM with half a park left to explore), and dessert (seemed disappointed that we split one).

If we are on the dp, we might try this again if it works into our touring plans. If we're paying cash, I might think harder about it...

I have no idea what happened to Pete. I ate there in Dec, it was one of the best meals we had all week. Had the steak and shrimp, delicious. the only miss was the duck, which I though was kind of mediocre. The wonton desert was excellent. I enjoyed it as much as our La Cellier meal. We were on the DP, so the price wasn't of concern to us.

I think there is a big consistency problem at all Disney restaurants. We also went to Hoop Dee Doo on that trip, and I thought the food was AWFUL. The ribs and chicken were dry and the potatoes watery. I have been to HDD many times and always had a good meal, so that was a big disappointment.

We ate at Y&Y in January--I ordered the Chicken salad as my entree -everyone else had stir frys while the children had the chicken nuggets. Food was good but the service was lacking. The stir frys came out but no salad. I thought he was going to get my salad but no. Had a difficult time getting the wait staff to even come to the table but finally she came over and asked if there was an issue--no just please check on my salad. She brought it and said, I don't know why they didn't bring it out, do you? By this time, everyone else is half-way done and she's asking about dessert. No apologies, or let me check to see how you're doing after the wait staff brought out the orders. Service was really sub par this time, but we'll probably try Tusker House next time.

I'm with the people who are confused lol I went soon after it opened and LOVED it. So did the rest of my party.... It's sad that you guys had such an awful time!

I'm sensing a pattern...catch it when it first opens, and have a great meal and wonderful service. Catch it after it's been open a while...not so good.

We had a wonderful meal at Yak & Yeti. I gess its all about perspective. We got the Shrimp and Steak and it was amazing..we took our deserts togo. Our server was 8 months preggo and did a wonderful job.

I have never been, but I am always a little unsure about food like Chinese at the Disney parks. Like Italian, everyone has their favourite place at home which will obviously be so much better and at a fraction of the cost. It kind of feels as though its setting itself up for people being unhappy.

I would still be happy to try it, as American Chinese food is different from the British stuff (weird huh?), so I may give it a go, but only dependant on budget!
