Anyone know if this is taking reservations yet? Also, what kind of food it will be? Wondering if we should try to eat dinner at AK, or leave the park and go somewhere else. Thanks!

And a CM I spoke with last week said it's looking more like the Yak 'n Yeti opening won't be until December. You could eat at the Rainforest Cafe there

Good info. We're going to be on the DDP, so maybe we'll just do a longer day at AK and then bail around 3:30 just before the parade and do dinner somewhere else. Sounds like AK is really ready for another TS restaurant.

There is no word on whether it will be on the DP yet. Since it is a WDW restaurant they probably will include it, but as I said, I have not heard officially yet........has anyone else heard the word???

Don't forget the Tusker House conversion going on either. This new table service buffet may be an option for you too.

I was hoping to eat there at the end of October. Darn! Oh well, maybe that would be a good day to try Boma!

So when is the earlyiest I can make ressies we ae going in feb

Can't answer that...they are not taking ADRs yet, and they are not saying when they will start. Keep checking here... I'm sure it will be posted when they start.

And no further word on whether or not it will be on the Dining Plan -- plan on it NOT participating until you hear/read differently.

...it would make sense for them to offer it on the DDP considering the fact they currently do not have a Disney owned TS venue at AK. Their marketing push seems to be in the direction of DDP and making it available on the plan could draw more folks to the AK if they could get a TS meal without leaving the park. Of course all my words are pure speculation; as would opinion to the contrary also be. Hey, it's fun to talk about the possibilities though, huh??? ;)

IIRC, it is not a WDW-owned restaurant. Back when it was first announced, I believe the announcement said it was owned & run by the same company that owns & runs the Rainforest restaurants.

So, it's unlikely it'll be on the Disney Dining Plan.

Side question: If you call Disney for ADRs, do they accept them for Rainforest Cafe?

Actually, now that you mention it, I do recall it will be owned by Landry's who does own a majority stake in Rainforest Cafe. Thanks for jogging my memory.

As for RFC taking ADR's, I think they will take them in AK but not at the DTD location. I am not sure if the Disney operators take the AK location ADR's or if you have to call the restaurant directly.

OTOH, Landry's already has a restaurant at AK that does not participate on the Dining Plan. If they were positively inclined towards participating, I suspect that they would have been participating already.

Isn't the buffet formerly known as Tusker House going to be owned by Disney?

Yes, you are correct.......I was a little absent-minded about the new venue being owned by Landry's. dqpowell's post helped to jog the mental file cabinet open......sometimes it takes a little external help to shake out the cob webs. :teeth: :confused3

I would assume if they wanted to participate, they would have done so already, but one never knows what kind of agreement may have been penned to bring about a new venue. Disney will first and foremost look out for Disney interests. Does that mean requiring them to be open to participation in the DDP? We won't know until it is open for business or official word is released. DDP or not I am looking forward to having another TS offering at AK.

I believe it is. I think I read somewhere that the Donald Duck Breakfast at AK would be relocated to this venue when it is completed too. I am not a huge buffet fan, but I am curious to see what kind of menu they will offer. Will it be Boma Light, will it be more of an American style menu or a combination of cuisines??? Looking forward to seeing what they offer. I would bet this will be on the DDP.......but you never know!

I think that's the point of the Tusker House conversion. The fact that they're changing what seems to be one of the most popular counter service restaurants in all of Disney combined with the fact that Yak & Yeti is supposed to be operated by the same company that runs Rainforest Cafe makes me think that Y&Y won't be on the dining plan. If it was, there'd be no need to mess with Tusker House.

Yes, that makes good logical sense, but like I stated earlier, we are all just making speculation and assumptions.........we won't know for sure until official notice is released. It could go either way, depending on what the powers that be have decided behind closed doors. It gives us all something to talk about in the mean time though!!!! :hyper2: Many will make statements of certainty about this topic (on both sides of the issue), but ultimately we will not know until they tell us. :confused3
