Yachtsman Steakhouse or Flying Fish Cafe?

We were going to splurge and do a 2ts restaurant on our next trip. Looking over those menus yachtsman steakhouse and Flying Fish Cafe were my favorite. Anyone love one over the other or tried both and have an opinion. Thanks for your help.

DH loves Yachtsman...but he is a "steak" man. I like the atmosphere at both. The service at FF was fantastic...tho we have always been blessed with pretty good service at Yachtsman, also.

DH did not like the potato wrapped snapper at FF because he thought it was fishy...but I thought it was good, not great. Next time I would order the scallops.

I did not like the new york strip at Yachtsman ( that the waiter suggested) but the filet mignon is very, very good.

I don't think you could go wrong at either location.

Thanks so much. We both love Steak and Seafood. We are from the South and I grew up near the beach so I'm very pickey about Seafood being Fresh. The dish I was looking at at FF was the Snapper so that is good to know. The only seafood at Disney that I have had and really liked was fish at coral reef, I think it was Halibut. Captains grill scallops we not any good. We always eat at Le Cellier and sometimes Teppon Endo.

Any other comments would be great!

the filet mignon at the yachtsman is fabulous! now....having said that we have enjoyed many meals at both restaurants. we live on the texas gulf coast so i understand what you say about seafood. FF has never disappointed us. either would be a great choice!

I haven't tried both, but I've been to FF several times. The most recent was in August. WEe enjoyed it very much. The only other siggie dining we've done inthe past few years was at Cali Grill. I can tell you everyone in our fmaily much preferred FF. The food is better, the service was outstanding. WE tried Cali Grill twice inthe last few years and both times the service was lacking. They did their job, but mostly it was slow and they had attitude.

Our waiter at FF was the nicest waiter we had during our entire visit. We had the diver scallops over risotto and they were excellent. Looking at the current menu via Disney online, I think the risotto they are now offering is slightly different than the one they were offering last month, as I don't recall any Proscuitto.

We also shared the spicy tuna tartare appetizer; it was as fresh and excellent as it was five years ago when we first had it!

I'm having the EXACT same dilemma....plus one. We cannot seem to choose among Yachtmans, Flying Fish or Todd English's Blue Zoo. I would welcome any input on these restaurants. This will be our "date night" while in Disney...the kids will be playing at Beach Club's kid camp!

We ate at FF in August and dh loved the scallops with risotto..said it was incredible. I had the steak and I was more than happy with it.
When I go in Dec, with friends, we've decided to do a lot more 2 TS spots for a change. We're doing both FF (because I loved it so much) and Yachtsman Steakhouse...I can't wait. Looks like I'll be getting the filet based on what I'm reading here.
I don't think you can go wrong with either..but if someone likes seafood, FF might be a better choice.

FF is always our dinner on the night we arrive, and we love it. We usually sit at the Chefs bar that overlooks the kitchen!

The meals we have had at the Yachtsmen have also been very good. Being a bit of a foodie and a decent home cook I just feel that steaks are all about the starting product. If I spend the $$ on a good cut of meat I can make a great steak at home.

Yachtsman aside for a second, to me, there is no comparison between FF and bluezoo. We've eaten at FF several times and the seafood has always been OK, but not great - scallops were burned, potato-wrapped snapper was dull. At bluezoo, everything was fresh, ingredients were top-quality, and the preparation was interesting and inventive.

IMHO, Flying Fish is closer to the quality of a chain seafood place, whereas bluezoo is on a par with the high-end restaurants we enjoy in L.A., like Water Grill and Jar.

Throwing Yachtsman into the mix is tough because it is also excellent.... We always split the Porterhouse, and the scallop appetizer there is far better than the scallops at FF or Narcoosee's. Yachtsman also stands up to Shula's in my book, which I didn't expect at all before I'd tried Shula's.

But there's a wider range of seafood at bluezoo, so maybe that would help with your decision.

This is terrific feedback, and just what I needed. We're from Chicago, so great steak is something that we have access to all of the time. We'd really like to try something unique and wonderful...something that we can't find at home. I think Blue Zoo fits the bill perfectly. We're on the dining plan, but I have no issue at all with paying out of pocket for a great meal. Thanks again for your input!

Oh....I just had dinner at the Flying Fish on Monday night and I thought the food was excellent. I had the scallops and there were wood grilled, but I did not find them to be burnt. I thought they were absolutely the best, most flavorable scallops I have ever had. I also really enjoyed the crab cake appetizer. I ate at Artist Point, Narcoosee's, Brown Derby, and the Kona Cafe on this trip. FF was my favorite in terms of food. Artist Point was second for food and tops for service and ambience. I have yet to eat at the Yachtman.

That being said, Lurkyloo is the ultimate foody, so if she recommends bluezoo, you know its a winner.

Thanks for all in the input. Sounds like either one is a great choice. May try FF since we plan to do Le Cellier and some of the other places we eat have steak as well. Glad to hear they are both good. I looked at Cal. Grill menu and it just didn't do much for me.

We have been to both restaurants. I loved the atmosphere of both and had great service at both restaurants as well. If I had to make a choice between the two it would have to be Yachtsman based on the food. We found the seafood at flying fish to be okay to good, but the steaks at Yachtsman were fabulous. Good luck with your choice.

We enjoy Flying Fish much more than Yachtsman. Although the filet is pretty good at Yachtsman, we have never been impressed with any of the other cuts of meat there. You can get a filet at FF if you want filet. I've also had the New York and the Ribeye at Yachtsman and I was not happy with either. All of the dishes we have had at FF have been very good.

Both restaurants are great! If you can only go to one then pick the Yachtsman. I have eaten there 4 times and every time the food and service have been awesome! Kids enjoy the Yachtsman more also.

Fullertons in Downtown Disney is a great seafood restaurant, a little pricey but worth it
