Yachtsman Steakhouse - Favorite Menu Item

The thing that really wowed me when I ate there in January was a seasonal salad of greens, pears, prosciutto, Parmigiano-Reggiano and a vanilla vinaigrette. It was amazing and if it were available all year, I think I might camp out at the Crew's Cup Lounge and have it for lunch every day. The lobster bisque, the scallop appetizer and all of the entrées that our party of four had that evening were excellent, too. We all sampled from each others' selections and I think the braised short ribs with celery root mash were a definite winner.

We ate there in early December and I still think about that salad! I don't even remember which appetizer DBF ordered because I was enamored with the salad. He really enjoyed the cowboy steak, and my porterhouse filled the plate, and was delicious.

For dessert (can you imagine that we actually had room?), I think I just got a creme brulee, but he ordered the chocolate trio -- it was delicious and memorable.

We had good service. We ate early in the evening, so I don't know if that matters.

The only thing that keeps me from going there again this year is that we want to try Artist Point or California Grill. But I highly recommend Yachtsman to any steak lover (over LeCellier, where we ate a few years ago and enjoyed that also).

Enjoy!

The last few times we've had a meal at Yachtsman I haven't felt it deserved signature status. The service was good, but, not what we've experienced in the past and I didn't feel the meal was that superior either. We don't always use DDP.......it depends on the trip and how many people we have in our group.......however, if we use DDP in the future, we will not use 2 credits for dining at Yachtsman. However, that said........we also had a rough experience at Narcoosees the last time we ate there.....meal was good, again not absolutely great, but, we also had a new server......who should NOT have been on his own yet.....who managed to spill an entire pot of pressed coffee all over our table.....thankfully, no one was burned....that was a few years ago and we haven't ventured back there yet. IMO the best meal and service we've received at a signature restaurant has been at Artist Point.....it's just such a calming, relaxing atmosphere also and every server we've had at AP has been absolutely excellent.

We were not overwhelmed in May. Good, but not great. Jiko is still the best.

However, the NY Strip and mashed potatoes are good at Yachtsman - I would avoid the truffled mac & cheese unless you love truffles and the potatoes gratin unless you like potatoes layered and packed down into a potato loaf (the only way I can describe it).

Dessert, however... get the chocolate trio but three of the caramel sea salt ones instead of the full trio. One of the best things we've ever tasted. If you love chocolate and caramel you must try this.

DH and I ate in the Crew's Cup Lounge next door and were able to get an appetizer and salad from the Yachtsman. I just looked on the menu and I think it was the braised beef ravioli--only now it is only an entree. I'm almost certain this was the dish but it was app-sized. It was DELICIOUS!

Later in the trip we ate in the actual restaurant and I thought it was okay. Not as good as I expected for the signature status, the price and for how much effort they seemed to put into their cuts of beef.

My recommendation would be to try the ravioli. :thumbsup2
