Yacht Club Room Request Q

Good morning,

I am looking to plan my fourth trip to the World in November 2014. We would love to stay at the Yacht Club for its location (and my husband did his Disney College Program there). However, we really need to have three separate sleep surfaces. We are only four travellers but my kids don't sleep well in the same bed.

At the Yacht Club, that means a room with 2 queens and 1 day bed. It appears this isn't a bookable category. Has anyone had experiences with room requests here? How likely is our request to be met? How many rooms of this type do they have?

Our other choices are the Contemporary (which we love but plan on spending a lot of time in Hollywood Studios and Epcot), the Poly (which will be under construction), and a bunk bed room at AKL (which isn't convenient to any parks and only has buses).

Hello,

What time are you arriving at the resort? The earlier in the day that you arrive, the easier/more likely that you will be able to insist and get your request granted. By days end, there may not be anything that they can do, if all rooms with daybeds are taken.

If you don't get your request met on arrival day, you can punch one night in and try the next morning to get moved. In my experience, when you ask to be moved, you usually get what you are looking for the next day or so.

If you want to be certain of 3 sleep surfaces, the AKL with the bookable bunk bed category i your best bet. I THINK that the CR rooms all have daybeds, but I'm not certain of this. If so, then the CR is a good choice.

It isn't ideal, but to have the location you want, you do take the risk of only 2 beds in the room. Is it possible to bring a cheap air mattress for the youngest child to sleep on, just in case?

In the end, you have to decide which is more important, guaranteed 3 sleeping areas or location. It is a matter of what is more important to your particular family. I try very hard to book what I think I will need in the room, because, for us, the sleep and comfort of the room factors most strongly in out enjoyment of the trip. So, FWIW, for my family, I would book the AKL bunk bed rooms. The AKL is a wonderful resort and, although far out, is really not that far from Epcot and DHS. The most distant from AKL is the MK which shouldn't be an issue for you. It is almost an attraction in its own right and most people that stay here love it. The buses are only shared with Kidani so they are very convenient.

Thanks, Babsy, for the feedback. Both the Contemporary and Poly have guaranteed day beds (all rooms sleep 5, not "up to 5").

I totally agree I need to decide which is more important - location or beds. I just can't decide

You are correct, a room with a daybed at the Yacht Club can't be booked. Priority for those rooms are given to families of 5 or more, and the remainder are assigned upon request.

However, if you end up being assigned a room without a daybed, you can request a rollaway cot, free of charge, for use during your stay. From what I have heard from others who have used the rollaways, they are quite comfortable.

And, as the previous poster suggested, you can ask to be moved to a room with a daybed when one becomes available.

Our one stay at YC, our family of four was given a room with a daybed (standard room). It it possible you could be assigned one.

We decided to ask for another room though, as it was too dark for us (first floor with vegetation all around the windows. Our second room did not have a daybed and was located over the porte cochere and was much brighter.
