Yacht Club or Polynesian

Just got back 4 days ago and stayed in the Polynesian and the Beach Club Villas. (The Beach Club is right next to the YC).

Given the choice of the 2 I would go back to the BC because of the fabulous pool. Also, at the YC you have all the facilities of the BC as well. The Epcot fireworks are visible from the beach and with you having kiddies every night we were there at 9pm there was a film shown on a big inflatable screen on the Beach which was great fun. The easy walk to Epcot is also a major plus point for here. MGM is a bit further but still about 15 mins walk. There is a boat as well if you don't want to walk. There is also the Boardwalk which is great for a stroll in the evenings and Spoodles is great place to eat but be sure to get ADR! The main downside of BC was the transport to AK and downtown especially in the mornings. We waited 30 mins one morning for a bus and quite a few people were getting cross about it. The buses do also make lots of stops, the bus back from AK stopped at Swan, Dolphin, Boradwalk, YC and BC which was a bit much and the bus was packed to the rafters.

The poly was also nice - they upgraded us to a MK view room as it was our anniversary. The room was huge and they have been recently redecorated so were nice and new looking. The resort is quite spread out and we were closer to the TTC monorail station then the poly one. The volcano pool was a bit disappointing - cold and rather small I thought. I prefered the quiet pool. We ate at Kona cafe which was ok but nothing out of this world, the steak was nice and cooked well and the desserts were the best bit of the meal.

Hope this helps you decide. Enjoy whichever you decide on, have a great time.

Last time we did a YC/CR split. We LOVED the YC. This year we are staying at the Poly.

I would predict that if you want any chance of a discount on the room, go with the YC. I called earlier in the week about a Disney Visa discount. For my dates, only YC and BC were available. I called today about an annual passholder discount. For my dates, only YC and BC were available.

If you love lots of walking, YC
If you love monorail rides, POLY

I love the POLY

(ok, this is oversimplified but what the heck)

Says it all for me! I would add to the walking part - if you like walking down inside corridors that zig-zag and go past conference rooms, go to the YC.

OK, so we had a room on the first floor next to the little "pond" (drainage ditch, really) and in order to get to it from the lobby, we had to walk a long way, past lots of conference rooms.... with conference-goers looking at us in our "park attire" while they were in suits....

Hmm.. does that say something about people's preferences possibly? (say that real fast!)
YC has availability and Poly does not.....

Well, I have just re-read this thread (and a few others....:rolleyes1 )
I am calling our AAA agent today and getting her to price both for us and take all the pros/cons to my DH.

A few last questions for the Poly,
Does anyone know exactly which longhouses at the Poly have two sinks? and if so, are they outside the shower area or in the same area? Also, specifics on with longhouses do/don't have balconies?

A few last questions on the YC,
Are the conference rooms only on the first floor?
Do they show movies at the beach every night?

Goodness gracious you would think I'm planning my daughter's wedding or something!!! I need a vacation from planning:rotfl2:

Again, thanks to everyone's comments

I don't know about the conference rooms at the YC we never saw them. I will say that we thought we hardly did any walking when we stayed there. We really liked that all the rooms were contained in one building and it was a short walk out to the boat dock to get the boat.
I guess if you want to walk to EPCOT and MGM and depending on where your room is there would be a lot more wlking involved. We also came from the AKL where we did MUCH more wlaking just to get to our room!

We thought everything was VERY CLEAN and the service was excellent. We were also given a free upgrade when we elt them know it was our anniversary.

YC fills up more at certain times of the year. We have had a hard time getting rooms when we wanted them so I would check into that. Also during the Soap Opera weekend they are always booked since a lot of the soap stars stay there.

Probably....but we really LOVED the YC. The one thing I'm wishing the Poly had (for our future Poly stay) was the sinks outside the restroom. Of late, DD14 has become very much of a bathroom monopolizer, so it would be great if more than one person could be getting ready at once.

We have never stayed at YC, so I can't help you too much there, other than to say it's a great location if MGM is your fav. park. I think the biiggest con to YC is that while the pool is great it closes early.

As for the Poly, I love it. All longhouses have balconies, on the 1st and 3rd floors, not all habe them on the 2nd flr, but some do. I love the Tahiti longhouse, 1st fl. You have double sinks, a great patio and have a quick walk to the TTC. Google Tikiman for a very detailed Poly site.

In the end, I don't think you can go wrong with either one.

Livin'4Disney - Below are a couple of links regarding the Yacht Club. Maybe they will help with your decision to see how the YC / BC facility is planned out. Also, the first link will take you to a room map layout. This layout is old, the rooms are still in the same places, just some categories have changed (the rooms overlooking the YC quiet pool are now standard view, not water view). Good Luck with your decision making, you can't go wrong with either YC / BC or Poly :)
