How strict is the dress code at the Yachtsman Steakhouse?

If someone is out touring the parks during the day in a t-shirt and shorts - will they stay true to the code and not let you dine?

Not meaning to be harsh, though it may sound that way...if you have ressies for the Yachtsman, why not make sure you have time to clean up and change so that you can be comfortable, and be able relax without concern about whether or not you'll be sat [or that you'll get ugly looks from the people who will be thinking how many restaurants are on property that don't have a dress code]?

Your post reads like you know there is a rule, you don't want to follow the rule, but you want someone to tell you it will be "OK"...sorry, not from me. Someone else may give answer that you want.

This was not at all my intent.
I've never eaten there before and simply read the description on the menu site here on The DIS. I know for a fact that not all restaurants follow their dress codes (business or resort casual) but have them stated as a way to protect themselves if and when somebody crosses a line with apparel. I simply wanted to know (from those with experience at this specific restaurant) how strict they were. My main concern was the t-shirt stipulation. I never wear t-shirts with large graphics on them, but might be wearing a solid color t-shirt and khaki shorts.
The list says nothing about "no shorts" but does say "business casual." To me - although I'm not often at business luncheons/dinners :) - shorts are not business casual. But again - that's why I asked.

They probably wouldn't turn you away with shorts and t shirts. However, anytime we have gone to yachtsman I haven't seen anyone in park touring attire. Dressier shorts with a nice polo, yes, but shorts and t's, no.

Perfect - that's the kind of feedback/experience I was looking for - thank you.

We had dinner there last year.

DH & DS10 wore black dress shorts & matching Disney polos.

DD13 & I wore nice black shorts & matching Disney tops (not t-shirts).

*Please note that although I was not specifically looking, I did not notice anyone in t-shirts.

Disney's dress code does allow t-shirts, with or without graphics (as long as not obscene or offensive).

I have eaten at Yachtsman several times and have seen diners in t-shirts here. My first time dining here I remember sitting at a table next to a man wearing denim shorts and a white t-shirt with some sort of monster truck logo on the front.

While not the norm, there are casual dressed diners here. The wait staff is in very formal white dress shirts with bow ties so it always seems odd to see diners dressed so much more casual than the wait staff.

T-shirts are specifically allowed by the dress code. The only prohibition is offensive language or graphics. "Dress shorts"are also allowed. That term is given wide latitude at WDW Signature restaurants--I've seen cargos many a time, along with a few short shorts and a few times even gym shorts.
Wear what you feel comfortable with that is not specifically prohibited and you will be just fine.
Here's the actual code (note the word GUIDELINES):

And pay no attention to that "sport coats are optional" business-I seriously doubt you'll see anyone in a jacket unless they are locals just coming from work, or attending a special event.

As others have mentioned, sadly the dress code is seldom enforced. We would never think of going to a nice place without being dressed appropriately, but others have different opinions.

Which ever opinion you have, I'm your opinion of the entire dining experience at YSH will be great. Enjoy it!

it seems that only Victoria & Albert's regularly enforces its dress code.

If that was not your intent, then my apologies for the assumption. I guess I'm just used to, and to my ears it sounded like, the significant number of "I know its supposed to be like this BUT....posts" :)

Sadly, because there are such a large number of people who refuse to abide by the dress code, Disney would have a huge problem trying to enforce it. There would be too many scenes created, etc. I tend to err on the side of what I know to be right, rather than what I think I can get away with.
