DS has been on Zyrtec for 9 years. The doc thought it time he change. Anyone have experience with this med? He's got pollen allergies big time and grass and dust. We're in a big pollen time right now and the xyzal seems to be handling it with no side effects - as promised. He had no drowziness from Zyrtec that we could tell.

I don't know what that is but I'm on Zyrtec right now and it doesn't really work for me. The only thing that does is Nasonex.

My allergist switched me to xyzal and it's been working pretty well for me. I do have some drowsiness, but not much.

Xyzal is a chemical isomer of Zyrtec.

Zyrtec's generic name = cetirizine

Xyzal = levocetirizine

I have no proof, but I suspect that Xyzal is the pharmaceutical company's response to Zyrtec's availability over-the-counter.

Yup, what she said. Same company.

If Zyrtec worked for you, Xyzal should too. The benefit is that it supposedly has a little less of a sedating effect. Even if you are one of the few that becomes drowsy, taking it in the evening should work fine.

Zyrtec is Xyzal's little brother...you should get the same result from OTC Zyrtec and your insurance may not cover Xyzal.

I believe that is correct
