XXI Olympic Winter Olympics Games Thread

The Russian got ROBBED. Lysacek should have gotten a medal for "Disney on Ice" but Plushenko did the difficult quad jump and surely deserved the gold.

#3 The ones that look more like a ' Here, hold my beer ' bar bet made by a bunch of cabin fever ridden Icelanders.
Skeleton, luge, ski jump, freestyle aerials fall in this catagory.' Oh yeah Sven? Watch me, I'll slide down headfirst! '

:lmao: That is exactly what we were saying last night watching the skeleton.
It looks so insane I had to look it up:

Apparently it was developed by a bunch of British Gentlemen of leisure in St Moritz Switzerland in the 1880's based on a British sport called Cresta. You could go either feet first -Luge, or you could go head first - Skeleton. So essentially we are correct. Just substitute "Hey Sven hold my beer" with "I say, Nigel, hold my lager" and we've got it. They used to do it down the street, at great hazard to pedestrians until they built a track. You can almost guarantee they were drunk.

I feel like Cliff Clavin. :rotfl:

Here is my take

Winter Games Events fall into three catagories.

Totally disagree... Ice skating.... not ice jumping.

I'm going to miss it!! We're leaving for Disney tomorrow morning and while I'm SUPER excited about it... I am also a tiny bit sad to be missing the game. It should be so exciting.:yay: Enjoy!!:goodvibes

I disagree. Plushenko loaded his jumps into the first half of his program when he would be less tired. Lysacek had jumps spread throughout the program, including at the end when he would be most exhausted. Lysacek had the more solid performance overall.

I'm tired of the Russians' complaining. They do this at every Olympics. When the results of the men's competition were announced, I turned to my partner and told him to get ready for a big basket of sour grapes from Russia. Even Putin has weighed in, which is completely ridiculous. When their ice dancers were asked by Native American and Australian aboriginal groups to change their racially insensitive costumes, a Russian Olympic official claimed that there is an international conspiracy against Russian athletes. The whole country seems to have a persecution complex.

Great short track racing! Do think that if the younger Canadian had not bumped Apolo, he might would have won. Watched his post game interview, never mentioned the bump, just said that he slipped. I'm no expert but I think that the bump caused the slip. Oh well, he did a great job of recouping and coming in third.

I was glad that he didn't mention it. He has bumped and been bumped many times in medal races. He has always said that it is just a part of the sport. He showed integrity by remaining consistent when it cost him instead of helping him...

Great speed skating tonight. I'm thrilled with who won the 1500 M.

And I saw the American bobsled team! I wonder if he knows...

Ok i have a question for you guys. On the short track do you think that the 19 year old american fouled the canadian. I know nothing at all about short track. But to me it looked like the south korea guy who was in fourth place pushed the canadian out of the way while he was touching the american.

Again I know nothing about it at all. But even the commentators were talking about how bad of a call it was on the part of the ref.

I think that it definately was a bad call. I didn't catch what the south korean did but it looked like to me that the canadian might have tripped over the american's skate. I don't see how that could be called as intentional and therefore allowing the canadian to be added to the final.
