XXI Olympic Winter Olympics Games Thread

Anyone remember that women's snowboard cross chick who did the little heel-grab trick over the final hill while she was clearly oodles ahead of the competition and then FELL on the landing, giving up the medal to another boarder who was way behind her?

Wonder if she made the team this year? I swear I was so mad at that back then, I almost reached through the screen and smacked her upside the head. Then again, I imagine the disappointment and anger she felt for herself far outweighs any I could toss her way.

Yes, I remember her! I was looking at the SI Olympic preview issue and she is on the team...they have her down as a medal contender. I couldn't remember what her name was but then saw the little description about how hotdogging cost her the gold in '06.

Ooooh yay an Olympics thread!!

Really, it's ridiculous how excited I get about the Olympics, especially since I keep up with NONE of the sports during the other 1400 days they are being played/skated/raced. I've never watched swimming, speed skating, high diving, hockey, bobsledding, etc. other than during the Olympics. But while they're on TV with those little rings down in the right corner, I'm glued to the TV like it's my kid that's competing or something!

It's just something about the whole this-will-only-happen-every-four-years thing that just makes it special. (Yes I know it's technically every two years.)

And I really prefer the winter Olympics. People are whooshing by on sleds, launching themselves into space with skis on their feet, whizzing past other skaters wearing alien helmets, soaring through the air after racing down ski jumps, exploding off the ice into quadruple jumps while wearing lap dancer outfits...you just can't beat the Winter Olympics.**

I like the summer Olympics too, but after a while it just seems like endless swimming and track/field.

I love the idea of having Le Cellier's soup for the opening ceremonies! I'm such a nerd that I ususally make "Go TEAM USA" signs for opening night, so an Olympics-themed menu would fit right in!

I'm not a fan of the medals, but I prefer them to those awful donut ones that they had a few years ago.

**except for curling and ice dancing...they bore me to tears.

.

I like that the medals have a cultural significance. I don't think they're ugly, but they're definitely unique.

We're all also very excited about the games!

Looks like someone is upping their post count. Maybe we'll have some excitement later.

Funny username. I find myself saying that a lot here ;)

Yup...and already caused some drama. I was watching them like a hawk...posting little useless blurbs to reach the magic 10 and fully expected to see some awful picture pop up somewhere. the night is young though. They DID cause a stir (that I reported) on the teen board.

Are you planning to serve some ice cold Molson's or a Canadian Ice Wine from the Southern Ontario region?

Is Molson's a strong dark beer? I don't drink beer, but DH does love his Coors light. He tried some Guinness (sp?) at the Rose & Crown once, and didn't like it too much. But I looooooved the ice wine that I had in Le Cellier....I wonder if I can find some around here? :scratchin

Then you better make these for dessert if you are 'doing it up' Canadian!!

Those sound absolutely delicious. I'm definitely making those.

What other Canadian foods can I make (besides bacon ;))?

Fries w/ cheese & gravy - the first Canadian food I fell in love with :lovestruc

Poutine is amazing. Omg my mouth is watering just thinking about it lol. If only it was diet food, I'd be a size two :rotfl:

I have been busy with work this week. Did they let the Australians keep their flag?

We have wonderful Icewine! Nova Scotia and Quebec (home of the poutine lol) also make it. We buy our Inniskillin from the Okanagan!:thumbsup2
