I thought maybe a thread with return policies/actual experiences might be helpful. Hopefully we all got what we wanted, or gift receipts otherwise, but unfortunately, many of us probably have things to return too. I also know some stores seem to be a little more lenient with rules after the holidays.

Anybody know about Old Navy? Is it lowest price or current price?

I asked for a scarf, gloves and hat and my mom got me 6 sets (I only wish I we're joking about he number). One set has old navy tags, the others were purchased on line. 5 is obviously still overkill, but better than 6.

I don't know about Old Navy but Walmart will return pretty much anything if it's something they sell, no questions asked, for the first week after Christmas. We have overheard the employees telling each other that when doing returns. The don't have a limit on the amount like they usually do, and they will give you a walmart gift card for your refund.

My kids received fleece jackets that my brother ordered online. They are still in the packaging. I attempted to return them to old navy the day after Christmas. I was told that without the receipt they can not do returns in the store for merchandise bought online.

My brother lives three hours away so no receipt and I still have three perfectly good jackets.

Great thread idea. I'm not sure but I think Old Navy will do a store credit for the current price.

How about Bed Bath and Beyond? We have a gift with a price tag still on it but no gift receipt. How do they handle returns?

Returned unopened video game at Sam's Club without a receipt the day after Christmas. Got a store credit on a gift card. It was for their lowest price which was what I was expecting. I had no issues and it went quickly and smoothly.

Old Navy will give you the lowest sale price back if you don't have a receipt and they will issue a store credit. If you have the receipt, then you can return the item up to 45 days after the date of purchase.

I just returned some items to Macy's yesterday. The items that I returned with a gift receipt got the full price that was paid placed on a gift card. The other items were purchased by my husband, who throws out all paper regardless of its importance. Fortunately, he bought the stuff with his Macy's card, so they were able to look up the amount paid for each item and refunded it all to his account.

Getting the money back or a gift card wasn't important to me. The clothes were so awful that I wanted to cry every time I looked at them. I just wanted them gone! In the past, I would have just tossed the offending garment into the Goodwill pile but this time every single piece of clothing he bought for me (and all that he bought for me was clothing) looked like something I would have bought for my grandmother! I just couldn't stomach the thought that all that money was wasted on clothes that I hated and wouldn't wear.

Im not a big fan of gift receipts--

reason being I thought if the person had to return something with a gift receipt they would get the cash back (We have a Christmas club account so all gifts are paid for in cash)

but even with a gift receipt you still get a gift store

what we is give the person the orginal receipt and then they get the cash back
and can spend it where ever and for whatever they want

Usually we just never return things; it seemed like a lot of trouble for pennies, or so we assumed. I knew things were reduced on the 26th. Last year MIL included gift receipts from Belk and I did returns. The money went on a gift card, not cash. The 2 choices were the gift card or refunded to her card.

This year I don't think she gave the gift receipt. 19 yo hipster DD got a pastel sweater from the children's dept. Rivals the tie she gave DH last year from the boy's dept.

Since he bought them online, could he forward you the email receipt?

I tried to exchange a sweater at Forever 21 yesterday. My brother cut off the tag and I didn't have it at the time, just the packing list (it was bought online). I am going to send it back with the tag and it will be credited to his card and he can give me the money for the new one she bought. There was a person in front of me with a coat new with tags and she just wanted a size bigger and they wouldn't do the exchange without the receipt. Other stores are more lenient. Like Lands End & Kohls. I mostly bought online this year so I have to mail 3 things back. I got free shipping when I bought them so I'm not too upset.

Anyone know about tj maxx?

DS got a university of md pillow pet and another small toy that both have tj maxx stickers on them (but price is cut off) would like to return for store credit to get him clothes.

I feel like a jerk returning stuff but DS has so many toys and we have a super small house with no storage areas. DH and I hate clutter. I always exchange or use the store credit for something he can use or needs though.

I have clothes to exchange at kohls but I know that won't be a problem. My mom got me earrings from kohls, they are crate and barrel and in the kohls box but the little sticker is gone. Will that be an issue?

Probably if I asked. Just hate to ask since there's really nothing wrong with the shirts. Just that the kids want the $$. Smh. Hoping that I can change the kid's minds. I did change dd's mind and she's keeping hers.

Returned slippers to jcpenney that were purchased online. No receipt needed. They just refunded to my card. Had it buena gift not sure how the money would've been returned.
Returned 2 items to old navy without a receipt. A check will be mailed to us for the lowest amount. Never asked for the receipts from the in laws. They always buy things too big for us.

Experiences I've had with TJ Maxx, not Christmas returns, were that without a receipt they'd only refund at the lowest price it sold for. So if it was/is now on clearance, that's what you'd get. However, one time I took something I knew I still had the receipt for, just didn't know exactly where and was already going to TJ Maxx. I told the cashier I wanted to see how much I'd get if I returned it without the receipt. If it wasn't full price I'd wait. She said that it was from a different TJ Maxx store so it didn't matter. I'd get the price on the tag no matter what. Works for me! On a gift card of course, but I have no problem with that.

Forever 21 is the absolute worst. If you use any sort of coupon or discount they will not take ANY returns or exchanges, including the identical item for a different size, unless the item is defective. I won't shop there.

Earrings may be a problem as they often aren't legally allowed to be returned because of health reasons.

I surprisingly had nothing to return this year...although I do have a $60 voucher for a clothing store that I fear may never be used.

I work for Tjx which owns TJMaxx and u can return unused merchandise. You will need a state ID and without receipt you will get store credit. If u have the top part of the price ticket attached they can use that to get the price. If the information matches the item its attached to no prob. If the cashier says no bubble it up to manager, dm , etc. We are all about customer service. Ibdo remind you that a lotvhas on gone on clearance so the longer you wait the less you could get.
